Operation "VISTULA": Its presentation in the People's Republic of Polanď s propaganda and contemporary interpretation
Veselý, Luboš ; Vykoukal, Jiří (advisor) ; Zilynskyj, Bohdan (referee)
This thesis deals with expulsions of (ethnic) Ukrainians from their homeland in post- war Poland in 1944-1947 and the presentation of these in communist Poland's propaganda. It also analyses different interpretations of these events after the political changes in Central and Eastern Europe at the end of the 1980s. Post-war changes of Poland's eastern boarder, where the Soviet Union could keep the territories it had occupied in 1939, led to a situation where only 0,5 to 0,7 million Ukrainians out of a pre-war population of 5 million remained in their original homeland in Poland's south-eastern region. After the end of World War II, the Ukrainian insurgent army (UPA) continued fighting for Ukrainian independence against the governments on both sides of the new border, which they felt transected Ukrainian territory. The Polish pro-soviet communist government, which had only very little support in Polish society, made use of extreme nationalism, anti-German and also anti- Ukrainian sentiments in order to gain legitimacy. The Polish and Ukrainian societies regarded each other as enemies since pre-war times and especially after WW II, when around 20 thousand Ukrainians and more than 90 thousand Poles were murdered in mutual killings. After the war, Ukrainians became the target of Polish revenge. Based on an...

Ancient-DNA analysis of teeth and skeletal remains with utilization of miniSTR loci.
Kvítková, Dana ; Brouček, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Dobisíková, Miluše (referee)
During the last twenty years, immense progress occurred in the area of analysis of DNA extracted from historical material. Considering the common level of preservation of tissue material, this analysis is usually executed on samples procured from bones and teeth. The analysis of soft mummified tissue is possible only in rare cases. Limiting factor of these analyses is a high degree of degradation and small amount of DNA extractable from this kind of material. First researches concentrated only on short sections of mainly mitochondrial DNA. Today, the analysis of the complete mitochondrial genome of both contemporary and extinct organisms was made possible. In case of analyses conducted on human remains, sections of nuclear DNA are far more valuable, because they can reveal information including not only subject's sex, but also possible kinship between subjects found e.g. in the same grave. Fundamental component of the whole analysis is the process of extracting DNA from cells. Probably every laboratory working with historical DNA uses a differently modified extract protocol. The main requirement for methods of extraction is to secure enough DNA with such a level of purity that would allow its use for following steps of the analysis. Taking in consideration high fragmentation of DNA, it is necessary...

Performance evaluation
Právě lidé představují jádro každého podniku, bez něhož by žádná organizace, bez něhož by žádná organizace, bez ohledu na náplň činnosti, velikost a formu, nemohla existovat.

Cultural diversity and Taoism
Bártík, Robert ; Matějů, Martin (referee) ; Ortová, Jitka (advisor)
The presented study focuses on themes related to the problem of cultural diversity and plurality. The fact that every culture that developed over the course of history lives in the horizon of a completely specific world (a horizon and a context of appearance) implies the question of whether different cultures can mutually understand each other (which is related to the opportunities for mutual translatability of each other's languages and the structures) as well as questions related to the universality of a certain understanding of reality and it's dominant position as a worldview, which is spontaneously demanded by the scientific/technical paradigm of the Euro-Atlantic civilizational range. Today, this problem is reflected from various different positions. From the perspective of ecological crisis, we find it in conceptions of lasting maintainability; from perspective of philosophical reflection, we find it in the project of intercultural philosophy. For a concrete "demonstration" of cultural diversity and plurality, we opted to use the philosophical/religious system of Taoism because we thought that it was "different" enough to be a representative perspective for this study.

Boundaries of the self in attic tragedy

The Finance Crisis in U.S. and its consequences
Křesinová, Dominika ; Žamberský, Pavel (advisor) ; Bartušková, Hana (referee)
The topic of this bachelor thesis "The Finance Crisis in U.S. and its consequences" is to analyze the causes and connections that led to the beginning of U.S. mortgage crisis which has become the global financial crisis. The aim of this thesis is to focus on the causes and consequences of this crisis which influenced the U.S. economy in view of the fact that this situation was caused by Fed's policy to a certain extent. I have chosen this topic because this crisis is today still topical and some states are contending whit this crisis. The introductory theoretical part of the thesis focuses on the characterization of the crisis from a general point of view. The next point is summary of the facts about the important crisis which has influenced U.S. in the past -- Great Depression. The main part of thesis deals with the particular causes and reaction on these ones, the sequential course, solving and consequences of this crisis. The main question of this thesis refers to the end of this crisis -- whether the finance crisis which started in 2007 in U.S. is over or continues. And whether due to this crisis it gets in U.S. to the next bursting of bloated bubble and to the new crisis which will be caused by solving current crisis.

The role of radiological assistant during mammography
Dinčovová, Martina ; Zoubek, Daniel (advisor) ; Moravcová, Zdena (referee)
The breast cancer is a serious disease. As we still do not know the direct risk factors, the only effective prophylactic possibility is a mammographic screening. The screening is intended for women who still do not have any problems. There are demands made on screening centres which are checked regularly. The centres should provide women both a quality care and personal comfort. Not many women are affraid of screening itself but they fear the possibility of being diagnosed the breast cancer. People still believe, they are convinced that the breast cancer is something that cannot be fought against. Doctors should calm the women down and tell them that if the disease is diagnosed in time, there is a great chance to recover completely. In the second part of my thesis I would like to point out that a part of the whole screening procedure is not only perfect equipment / apparatuses/ and experienced doctors, but also a radiological assistant. He or she is responsible for the quality of projections. The radiological assistant is practically the first person that a woman gets in contact with after her arrival at the department. It is the radiological assistant's attitude to patients which matters a lot. His or her education is not a guarantee for quality work. Professional approach of an assistant should be...

Mikveh: the phenomenon of Jewish solemity (ritual baths in Bohemia)
Žahourová, Ivana ; Krupková, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Korecká, Zuzana (referee)
Resumé This diplom work is devoted to the ritual purification of the Hebrew in mikva. Mikva is a Hebrew ritual bath which must fulfull certain religious regulations to be understood as properly religious. All the regulations and order regarding the functioning, construction and water, which is allowed to be used, are stated in Misna in the tractate Mikwa'ot. The basis for the ritual adequacy of mikva is water which should have inflow and outflow. Mikva serves to renew ritual cleanliness of a person who became ritually unclean. This ritual dates back to the times when Desater made a commandment to Sinaji. The first people who practiced the ritual were supposedly priests. Those were impurified after the contact with a dead body, carrion of an animal or a snake; after emission of semen or spermatorrhoea. During the times of the first Church the whole population including children cleaned themselves from different impurities. After the deconstruction of the Church the law regualting cleanliness and impurities changed. Today mikva is visited by women firstly before wedding, then after each menstruation period and after giving birth. Men are no longer obliged to practise the ritual after the deconstruction of the Church however even today orhodox Hebrew and chasids clean themselves before important Hebrew...
