Social acceptability of smoking and unintended consequences of tobacco control in the Czech Republic

The diploma thesis "Social acceptability of smoking and unintended consequences of tobacco control in the Czech Republic" offers an understanding of the question whether the smokers in the Czech Republic are stigmatized in connection with denormalization strategies, whether and how public policies contribute to them and what their unintended negative consequences on the health of citizens in various forms. Research from a semi-structured in- depth interview with smokers revealed that they perceive that smoking is neither normal nor modern. While there was no stigmatization among respondents, as demonstrated abroad, some elements suggesting stigmatization were present. Some smokers feel that they are negatively perceived by the neighborhood, as manifested by their relatives, as well as negative verbal and nonverbal expressions from the wider environment. The negative consequences of stigmatization in respondents to this research, unlike foreign experiences, did not show up in the social and health spheres and did not imply a significant change in cigarette consumption of a given smoker. The influence of public policies on stigmatization of smokers has also not significantly materialized in this research.

Contemporary Czech Sexology and Homosexuality

7 ABSTRACT This thesis focuses on a textual analysis of articles in the field of sexology, which were published in the Czech Republic after 1989. It will examine through both quantitative and qualitative methods, how authors of sexological articles defined the term homosexuality and worked with it, as well as explore their varying approaches to the topic depending on context. The thesis will ask whether the sexological discourse about homosexuality has changed after the fall of the communist regime, and if it has, in what ways. Schizophrenia: Impact on quality of life

Veronika Konopásková Schizophrenia: Impact on quality of life Annotation The goal of the thesis is to understand the impact of schizophrenia on quality of life of the patient. Schizophrenia is defined and its most common forms and symptoms are presented. I describe the origin, course and prognosis of the disease. I focus on the concept of relapse and suicide risk in patients with schizophrenia. Treatise on the treatment is divided into psychosocial and biological methods. I deal with the concept of Quality of life in general and in connection with schizophrenia. I discuss the problem of stigmatization of the mentally ill patients. The example of three selected organizations (Baobab, ESET-HELP, DPS "Ondřejov") illustrates the wide range of psychosocial rehabilitation programs offered for mentally ill. To capture authentically all aspects of life with schizophrenia, I conducted three in-depth interviews with persons diagnosed with schizophrenia. Stigma of Russian-speaking injection drug users, that live in Czech Republic

This bachelor thesis deals with the stigmatization of Russian-speaking injecting drug users (active and ex-users), originating from post-Soviet countries, the influence of this process on the attitude to addictology services in the Czech Republic and their willingness to enter treatment. It is divided into theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part explains the concept of stigmatization, its causes and the process of origin. It also introduces the situation with the Russian-speaking minority living in the Czech Republic. The practical part is devoted to interviews with Russian-language IDU. The aim of the study was to find out whether there is stigma towards drug use in the mentioned population and if so, to what extent it influences users in their attitude to treatment and seeking help. Data were obtained using qualitative research, where a semi-structured interview was used as a tool. The research group, which was selected by purposeful selection, consists of 6 respondents. Research shows that stigma, due to social and interpersonal stigmas, has become a major reason for refusal of treatment for respondents from Ukraine and Latvia. Experience of stigmatization in people with affective disorder

The intention of this thesis is description and understanding of experience of stigmatization in people, who live with affective disorders. Another goal is identification of various phenomena, which can occur during this experience and are in some way key for it. For these reasons we decided for qualitative approach in our research. As a specific method we chose the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, because it allows putting major focus on the form of experience of each individual participant. The participants were two females and two males in the age from 20 to 28 and all of them have experience with depressive disorder or bipolar affective disorder. We acquired the data with the assistance of semi-structured interviews and analysis of this data took place on two levels. First the individual experience of each participant was analyzed with its specifics to the greatest detail possible. Following analysis of themes which were common for few or all participants and were in some way significant to them within the framework of examined phenomenon. The etical issue of the position of people suffering from mental disorder in the labor market

Subject of Diploma thesis is a description of ethical problems and complication of social mechanism related to employing people who suffer from mental illnesses. There are factors which influences opportunities for success, like concealed or unspecified information about diagnosis. It is happening based on experience with labeling and stigmatization. The proces of recovery of people with schizophrenia disorders

This diploma thesis on the topic of the recovery process in individuals with a schizophrenic disorder presents the stories and experience of people suffering from schizophrenia and their road to recovery. The thesis describes the recovery process in selected areas of life - health, partner and family relationships, work, housing and spirituality. The theoretical part consists of three chapters and is focused on describing what a schizophrenic disorder is, the stigmatization of people with mental disorders, the topic of peer consultants and the approach to recovery. The practical part consists of qualitative research; data were acquired in the form of a semi-structured interview. The Clustering Method was chosen to analyse the data. The result of the thesis is a description of the recovery process in selected areas of respondents' lives.

Discrimination of people with mental illness in the offices of the CSSA

This thesis deals with the discrimination of people with mental illness in the offices of the Czech Social Security Administration. The aim of the thesis is to answer the research questions asking whether people with mental disorders experience any form of discrimination when applying for disability pension. They look for elements of discrimination both in the behaviour of workers and in the legislative process of allocating disability pensions. The behaviour of workers is explained by using framing theory. The theoretical part describes direct and indirect discrimination, framing theory and the theory of line workers with whom we continue to work throughout the thesis. Next, the procedure of allocating disability pensions is indicated, which gets compared with the experience of respondents in the practical part. The research questions are answered in the practical part through several interviews with respondents with mental illness, who went through the application process for disability pension and with respondents who work as medical examiners in the social security administration. In this part, there is also a discussion which analyses the flow chart, which appeared with all respondents with mental illness. In the end, all findings and answers to research questions are summarized.
