Corpus analysis of adjectiv affixoids and their lexicographical processing in Czech-German dictionaries
Koptík, Tomáš ; Kloudová, Věra (advisor) ; Šemelík, Martin (referee)
This thesis demonstrates the necessity of inventarisation of word-formation components in the bi-lingual dictionaries, taking adjective affixoids as an example. Describing the hands-on approach to addition of these word-formation components into the upcoming Large German-Czech Academic Dictionary, it points to the issues arising in connection with the inventarisation itself.

Kalajdžievová, Natalie ; Rangelová, Albena (advisor) ; Košková, Mária (referee) ; Niševa, Božana (referee)
ABBREVIATION IN CONTEMPORARY BULGARIAN LANGUAGE IN COMPARISON WITH THE CZECH LANGUAGE Dissertation work is aimed at confrontation study of abbreviation in Bulgarian in comparison with Czech and at the description of abbreviations as specific language symbols. Contemporary language tendencies and the changes in the field of abbreviation in relation to the language typology are taken into account. The work is dedicated to the grammatical, stylistic and semantic characteristics of the abbreviations, while a substantial part of the confrontation description addresses the graphical and initial abbreviations, which create a central part of the partial system of abbreviation formations. From the confrontational aspect, there is also described the ability of abbreviations to serve as word-formation base for derivatives. The dissertation work also includes the results of socio-linguistic research made by questionnaire method, where the respondents evaluated the abbreviations of an international character and the words containing abbreviated bases implemented into the text written in Cyrillic.
Automatic Categorization of Unknown Words Based on Derivational Relations
Faltusová, Marie ; Dytrych, Jaroslav (referee) ; Smrž, Pavel (advisor)
This master thesis deals with the construction of a system for automatic classification of~unknown words based on derivation bonds. For this purpose, the system was designed to~extract derivative links based on electronic dictionaries and to create word-forming models from them. Based on this knowledge, it is then possible to incorporate unclassified words into existing nests formed from the obtained bonds, and their models, or create new ones. The reader will be gradually acquainted with the reasons that lead to the continuous transformation or expansion of the lexicon, the ways in which the words in~the~Czech language are derived and how to obtain information about the changes caused by this derivation process. This system builds on and extends the research of the branch of morphology in~the~project of a morphological analyzer of the Research Group of Knowledge Technologies, working at the Faculty of Information Technology of the Brno University of~Technology.
Harmonisation of Language Resources for Word-Formation of Multiple Languages
Kyjánek, Lukáš ; Ševčíková, Magda (advisor) ; Zeman, Daniel (referee)
In the field of Natural Language Processing, word-formation is under-resourced comparing to inflectional morphology. Moreover, the existing resources capturing word-formation differ in many aspects. This thesis aims to review existing language resources for word-formation across languages and to unify them to a common data structure and file format. Basic notions of word-formation are followed by a review of existing language resources and their comparison in both quantitative and qualitative aspects. In the core part of the thesis, the harmonisation process is presented. Design decisions on the unification procedure are presented, and the selection of the resources to unify is described. The resources are unified to the rooted tree data structure and stored in a lexeme-based file format, which is already used in DeriNet 2.0. The procedure applies supervised machine learning model and the Maximum Spanning Tree algorithm. While the model scores word-formation relations, the MST algorithm uses the scores for identifying the rooted tree structure in each word-formation family. The resulting collection of harmonised resources covering 20 European languages was published under the title 'Universal Derivations' (UDer).

Anglicisms in the Facebook Communication of English Language Students
Cvrčková, Hana ; Richterová, Jana (advisor) ; Malá, Markéta (referee)
This bachelor thesis studies the occurrence of anglicisms in the communication among the students of the English language at the Faculty of Education, Charles University. The communications researched concerned the Facebook groups reserved specifically for students of this subject. The theoretical part explains the term anglicism in the context of word formation, its assimilation and significance for word-stock enrichment in the Czech language. The practical part presents the research conducted by the analysis of the corpus of posts and comments in the Facebook groups of students of the English language. The primary hypothesis presumes that more cases occur of students expressing a longer part of the utterance in English rather than of using a single English word in otherwise Czech utterance. It is accompanied by the evaluation of the necessity of the usage of anglicisms and an exploration of the possible reasons behind it. This discussion is supported by a questionnaire conducted among the English students of the Faculty of Education, Charles University. The aim of the qualitative hypothesis is to prove that the main reason for using anglicisms in the Czech utterance is their simpler or shorter form than the Czech equivalent has. The first hypothesis was disproved as 60 % of the 530 items in the...
Evolutionary line of adjectives from verbs from word-forming, syntactic and valence aspect
KALINOVÁ, Zuzana
The dissertation thesis deals with the development of verbal adjectives from the so-called middle age (with regard to the creation of adjectives in Old Czech) with an overlap to the new Czech. Emphasis is placed on word-forming, which means that deverbal adjectives will be examined according to the way they are created, including the word-type semantics. Nor will their morphological side be neglected. The aim of this work is to indicate the development of verbal adjectives based on the analysis of excerpted material and thus contribute to their deeper knowledge.
