The Intervention of the Central Czecho-Slovak Government in Slovakia in March 1939, Causes and Consequences
Fišar, Jan ; Irmanová, Eva (advisor) ; Švec, Luboš (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with the political-military intervention of the Czecho-Slovak government in Slovakia in March 1939 focused on the stabilization of domestic tensed situation. The main aim of the thesis is to find out, which causes and consequences led to the intervention and analyse the perception of the intervention from Czech, Slovak and foreign perspective. For that reason an analysis of the tensed domestic situation influenced by the Slovak autonomistic and secessionist movement as well as unfavourable international situation in 1938 and 1939 seems to be necessary. Another part of the thesis is an analysis of the immediate causes and consequences of the intervention for the Czechoslovakia as well as an outline of its course. The final part is dedicated to the analysis of the old Czech, Slovak and German press and the perception of the intervention from their point of view. This is also important for the understanding of the perception of the intervention in 1939.
Separatist tendencies in Europe - case of Catalonia and Padania
Voráček, Michal ; Romancov, Michael (advisor) ; Riegl, Martin (referee)
This bachelor thesis is devoted to Catalan and Padanian (North Italian) separatism. It aims to analyze and compare separatist tendencies in two European regions - in Catalonia and in the region of so-called Padania on the background of the historical development within their home states. The thesis is a combination of a description and a comparative case study and is divided into two main parts. The theoretical part deals with the definition of the basic terms that are crucial for understanding the issue of separatism and that pervade the whole thesis. After that, the cleavage theory of Stein Rokkan and Seymour Martin Lipset is briefly introduced, especially the centre-periphery cleavage on which the analytic part is based. The analytic part deals with the origin and rise of Catalan and, respectively, Padanian separatism, with an emphasis on the historical development of the analyzed regions, their current position within Spain and Italy, the main factors affecting separatist and nationalist tendencies and the contemporary political representation in both regions. In the final chapter, the obtained data are compared with the aim to find the basic similarities and differences between the separatism in Catalonia and so-called Padania.

The Ukrainian Question in Works of Russian Emigration
Mareš, Jakub ; Kolenovská, Daniela (advisor) ; Zilynskyj, Bohdan (referee)
The thesis deals with the reflection of the Ukrainian question in selected works of members of the first wave of Russian emigration. Attention is paid to four major political streams of Russian emigration - conservative, liberal, left-wing and Eurasian. As part of the content analysis of selected works, the historical topics and figures, the existence of the theme of the anti-Russian plot, the plan for the future arrangement of the Russian-Ukrainian relations, or the way in which the ideas were formulated were examined. A thorough analysis of all these currents revealed that, with the exception of the most leftist Socialist-Revolutionary political stream, no one had counted on the full separation of Ukraine from Russia. Though other thought currents could not imagine the separation of Ukraine, some proposed a solution that would bring more equality in the relationship between the Ukrainians and the Russians than in the pre-revolutionary period, be it the territorial or cultural autonomy of the Ukrainians.

Conflicts between Czechs and Slovaks in Canadian Exile, 1945-1968
Čadek, Matěj ; Raška, Francis (advisor) ; Calda, Miloš (referee)
Bachelor's thesis Conflicts between Czechs and Slovaks in Canadian Exile, 1945-1968 examines an eventful chapter of the Czechoslovak postwar exile history. It depicts the development, ways of organization, and unique nature of the Czechoslovak exile in Canada. The study describes two principal levels of the conflicts between the Czechs and Slovaks in Canadian exile: Firstly, the dispute over Slovakia's position in a common Czechoslovak state among the democratic exiles, and secondly, the conflict between the Slovak separatists and the idea of a unitary state of Czechoslovakia as such, defended by democratic exiles. This bachelor's thesis uses key sources in order to illustrate the tensions, and analyses the argumentation of different participants, their historical narratives and political mythology. It concludes by using the findings to seek the overall cause of the conflict.
