Midulová, Katarína ; Nečas, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)

A definition of scandal follows as well as description of fundamental characteristics of promotion in the media of political scandals in particular. The thesis aims at application of this theoretical basis on the aforementioned case and its empirical verification. The empirical research includes source analysis and an evaluation of the source balance. A quantitative content analysis is used for these purposes. The results show an intense media coverage of the case and a major media focus on elite (political) resources as well as a frequent representation of particular political actors at the expense of others (related to the case). The results also demonstrate that media did not reflect the fact, that the authenticity of the Gorila document which was the origin of the case was not officially proven at the time.

Securitization within a frame of republican order: A case study of Marseille's banlieues
Hurtík, Ondřej ; Karásek, Tomáš (advisor) ; Hynek, Nikola (referee)
This case study explores the securitization of Marseille's banlieues during the era of the Frame of Republican order that in the last decade of the twentieth century and first years of the new millennium significantly influenced intensive securitization of French banlieues with a high concentration of ethnic minorities and countless overlapping social and economic problems. In 2005, in reaction to the era of intensive securitization, unprecedently violent riots and social unrest broke out in banlieues across France, yet banlieues in Marseille remained calm. This thesis, therefore, aims to describe the securitization process and at the same time expose causes that lowered the intensity of securitization, mitigated the influence of the Frame of Republican order and alleviated its adverse effects on the local population. For this purpose, the thesis builds on a combined theoretical framework of securitization theory and framing theory that enables to put the securitization process into the broader context and considers specific historical background. This thesis also interprets findings on the securitization process and offers a critical evaluation of recent development in Marseille that puts into danger Marseille's resistance to securitization and exposes the city to adverse consequences.

Burdová, Karolína ; Dobiášová, Karolína (advisor) ; Kotherová, Zuzana (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the media representation of alcohol and its excessive consumption on Czech Television as a public service broadcaster. It also focuses on ways to regulate alcohol in the form of behavioural nudges which can be used both within alcohol policy of the Czech Republic in general and the broadcasting of Czech Television. The thesis identifies not only possibilities of using the nudge theory, which can have a beneficial effect on human decision making, but also interprets media framing used for representation of alcohol on Czech Television. Alcohol is portrayed within Czech Television programmes as well as within TV commercials, therefore a case study dealing with alcohol advertising broadcasted on Czech Television was added to the analysis. The analytical part of the thesis was created on the basis of a qualitative framing analysis and with the aid of desk research I revealed the possibilities of nudging both in alcohol policy and in the Czech Television broadcasting. Above all, this thesis emphasises the fact that the framing process has a significant position in human decision making, and that is why it's necessary to pay adequate attention to this process in alcohol policy making.
