Critical Reflection of Marek Šindelka's Current Prosaic Creation in the Czech Media

Diploma thesis Critical Reflection of Marek Šindelka's Current Prosaic Creation in the Czech Media has the aim to analyze selected critical reflections that were published in the Czech media about a novel Chyba (2008), a collection of short stories Zůstaňte s námi (2011), a collection of short stories Mapa Anny (2014) and a novel Únava materiálu (2016), all of them written by author Marek Šindelka. The source of reviews and critiques published between 2008 and 2018 are czech literary magazines A2, Host, Revolver Revue, Souvislosti and Tvar, daily press Hospodářské noviny, Lidové noviny, Právo and websites iLiteratura.cz and iRozhlas.cz. The analysis was made according to data in the archive of Institute for Czech Literature. Content of these critics was found in the full-text archive of media news from the Czech Republic called Newton Media Search and as well in the archive of concrete media depending on the availability of full text including its bibliographic data. In total, 43 texts are subjected to literary-critical analysis. The Image of a Russian Emigrant in the works of S.D. Dovlatov

1 ABSTRACT In this paper, it will be dealt with the issue of shaping the image of a Russian emigrant in the works of Russian writer Sergej Dovlatov. The aim of the thesis is not only to examine the work of Sergei Dovlatova from the point of view of the writer whose view is unlimited, but also to try to find out the features of images of Russian emigrants using the stylistic and poetic features of his prose. In the theoretical part of the thesis are analyzed the causes of the third wave of emigration, the main representatives and the place of Sergej Dovlatov in the cultural context of the United States for a deeper understanding of the problems of the third wave of Russian emigration. The biography of Sergej Dovlatov is an integral part of the subject's description. A special place is dedicated to studying the artistic originality of the prose S. Dovlatov. The task of the practical part is the selection of artistic and expressive portraits of the Russian emigrant in the works "Inostranka" and "Kufr" and their categorization. Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na současnou českou literaturu pro ženy psanou ženskými autorkami, a to zejména z hlediska čtenářů jejího dominantního žánru, červené knihovny. Cílem je popsat, jak dané autorky pracují s tradičními schématy žánru, nakolik realizují tradiční narativní schémata a jak tato schémata vnímají čtenářky preferující tento žánr. , Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a výzkumnou část. V teoretické části jsme popsali stručný vývoj žánru jako součásti populární literatury a jeho charakteristické rysy. Základem výzkumné části je sociologické čtenářské šetření rozdělené na kvantitativní a kvalitativní. V kvantitativní části jsme provedli širší čtenářský průzkum formou dotazníků. Kvalitativní část je založena na analýze děl vybraných autorek, kterou jsme vedli pomocí volného hloubkového rozhovoru s úzkým okruhem respondentek. Tímto způsobem jsme analyzovali knihy Otcomilky od Simony Monyové, u knihy Bestiář od Barbary Nesvadbové a Tajné knihy Ireny Obermannové. Representation of Subject in Alexandra Berková´s Proses

This thesis with help of literary literature is at first focused on the way of displaying the subject in post-revolutionary Czech prose (from anti-infective output till output which is accented on mimetic stylization). The social situation before and after year 1989 is taken into consideration. Thanks to this theoretical background is the attention focused on the way of existing of the sujbect in five short proses by Alexandra Berk and its interpretation related to living reality. Practical analysis of the texts is led on narratology and theatological meaning (using intertextual relations, resp. metatext relations). Before the analysis it will briefly introduce the author, her life and activity.
The realism of novels by Vítězslav Hálek

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to find out whether and what elements of realism appear in Vítězslav Hálek´s prose. The theoretical part is focused on the terms of romantism and realism, their substance, characteristics and role in the art of 19th century. Also it deals with important writers of that time and special attention is given to Vítězslav Hálek. The practical part concetrates on Hálek´s prose, which is neccessary for the analysis of realistic, possibly romantic elements.
Characterizing literary characters in selected works of prose by Ladislav Fuks with a focus on peculiarities in behavior

The goal of this master´s thesis is to describe individual characters, especially the main characters, in selected prose of the well-known Czech writer Ladislav Fuks. This thesis will be primarily focused on the unusual behavior, peciliarities, features and the character of the protagonists. The biographical part of the thesis will be focused on the author´s personality and lifestyle. The bibliographical part will be focused on a detailed analysis of the protagonists in selected titles. More than ten characters will be compared. The primary method used in this thesis will be: analysis, interpretation, along with the use of the description and confrontation of the individual protagonists. The prime benefit of this thesis lies in a more detailed description and comparison of the behavior and character of the individual figures.
The picture of concentration camps in Czech prose of the 50/s

This master's thesis The picture of concentration camps in Czech prose of the 50's analyses selected literary works from 1950᾿s. These works are presented by different author's approaches from presented reality. First part of this work focuses on concept of "Holocaust" and on possibility of its verb representation as well. Another part of thesis deals with development of "literature with topic of Holocaust" from 1945 to contemporary times. The emphasis is placed to the texts from 1950᾿s and 1960᾿s that had formed reader's memory. Next chapter observe a permeation and reciprocal influencing of historical and fictional discourse. The picture of life in Nazi concentration camps, the author's character creation as well as representation of Jewishness are analyzed in these works: A Box of Lives by Norbert Frýd, Osm odtamtud by E. Karel Kamínek as a Prose Writer

The thesis deals with short proses of Karel Kamínek - author of Modern revue circuit. The first part is dedicated to environment of Czech decadency in 19th and 20th centuries, its French roots and European sources of inspiration. The second part deals with the person of Karel Kamínek itself. It begins with basic biographical data and presents selected projects in which Kamínek participated. The third part analyses the author's short proses. We focus on Dies Irae and other stories and on Disonance also on short stories published in magazines. We approach Kamínek's work chronologically; divide it into sections with related poetics, while respecting the framework of book units. Selected short stories are closer discussed. The aim is to remind forgiven author, try to determine the specifics of his prose, capture its development and to put his work into the context of Czech literature.
Early Prose Works by Gao Xingjian

Nobel Prize in Literature laureate Gao Xingjian is well known especially as an author of drama and novels Soul Mountain and One Man's Bible. This thesis examines his early novellas and short stories that were created at the end of the 70s and in the 80s. An analysis of meaning contruction is focused primarily on motifs and narrative techniques. It explores the process of his literary creation in context of official ideological requirements on literature as well as in context of literature genres known as "scar literature", "literature of reflection" and "root seeking" literature. This thesis shows how Gao Xingjian is trying to create a unique and individual worldview of his characters.
