Particles in Slovak and Czech. System and Corpus Analysis
Šimková, Mária ; Nábělková, Mira (advisor) ; Vondráček, Miloslav (referee) ; Sokolová, Miloslava (referee)
The youngest word class type used to arouse great interest and discussions when entering the grammar; in some countries (e. g. in Germany) particles have been an object of systematic research. However, many other languages still lack a complex description of particles as a class on its own - they represent an appropriate material also for comparative researches. Differences in functioning and theoretical treatment of particles have been present in typologically different languages but they can emerge also in related languages, even in the case of Slovak and Czech. Lexicographical and grammar descriptions of these languages provide only small sets of particles (in Slovak roughly amounting to 400, in Czech exceeding 200) and are usually divided by authors into small groups and further on into even smaller subgroups. Due to specific features as well as to paradigmatic and syntagmatic relations with other language or speech phenomena even one particle or a couple of them or a narrowly defined group of particles can become an object of individual scientific and research projects. Step by step, our thesis presents the development of attitudes towards particles as an independent word class in general and in Russian linguistics in particular, grammar descriptions of particles in Slovak, Czech and other...
The handwritten dictionary of lithuanian language from 1st half of 19th century from the Library of the National Museum
Tollarová, Anna ; Lemeškin, Ilja (advisor) ; Šeferis, Vaidas (referee)
Anna Tollarová; The handwritten dictionary of lithuanian language from 1st half of 19th century from the Library of the National Museum Abstract The intention of this work layid on processing, exploration and press-preparation (at least partially) of the handwritten relic, deposited in the Library of the National Museum. This archival document is possible to date to the first half of 19th century and connect it with lithuanistic legacy of František Ladislav Čelakovský. To understand the genesis of this lexicographic project was necessary to compare this dictionary with other work - Wýpisky o gazyku litewském. 1833 (sign.: IX E 4). The defined purpose solved (at least partially) these tasks: 1. To validate or refute authorship of F.L.Čelakovský. Incorporate this handwritten relic to the context of lexicographic and baltoslavic interests of the author. 2. To explore the disposition of Lithuanian dictionary: main intention, role of the dictionary, scope of lexicon, thematic range. To compare notification of the first half of 19th century to knowledge of contemporary lithuanistic. 3. To define the main source used for writing of this lexicographic work. This work continued in modest previous exploration and wants to make a contribution to release this relic to the scientific awareness.
Current use of helvetisms and their lexicographic treatment
Štrachová, Zuzana ; Vachková, Marie (advisor) ; Šemelík, Martin (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to provide an overview of currently used helvetisms in the field of cuisine and eating. In the initial part, a concept of German as a pluricentric language is introduced, followed by a description of the language situation in the German speaking Switzerland and basic characteristics of the Swiss variety. Five sources were analyzed, besides other things also a journal of a Switzerland-based Germanist and business company Migros' product database. Internet was used as a linguistic corpus in order to provide an analysis tool next to the selected dictionaries. Ascertained helvetisms were assessed on the basis of their existing lexicographic form and the degree of their intelligibility for other German speaking countries speakers. Selected helvetisms were processed as dictionary entries for the emerging Large German-Czech Academic Dictionary. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

German Adjective Idioms from the Contrastive and Lexicographical Point of View. On Variability of Idiomatic Comparisons
Bezdíčková, Alžběta ; Vachková, Marie (advisor) ; Šichová, Kateřina (referee)
1 Abstract This paper aims at an empirical corpus driven analysis of a closed set of German comparative idioms with adjectives. Regularities in their variations are examined from several points of view. The contrastive German-Czech perspective contributes to a more objective understanding of the phenomenon itself. Corpus research results are integrated into the context of practical lexicography. The strategy of equivalence in a bilingual dictionary is discussed and reevaluated both theoretically and practically. Keywords: phraseology, comparisons, variability, lexicography, dictionary, corpus
Corpus analysis of adjectiv affixoids and their lexicographical processing in Czech-German dictionaries
Koptík, Tomáš ; Kloudová, Věra (advisor) ; Šemelík, Martin (referee)
This thesis demonstrates the necessity of inventarisation of word-formation components in the bi-lingual dictionaries, taking adjective affixoids as an example. Describing the hands-on approach to addition of these word-formation components into the upcoming Large German-Czech Academic Dictionary, it points to the issues arising in connection with the inventarisation itself.
Valency Dictionary of Arabic Verbs
Bielický, Viktor ; Zemánek, Petr (advisor) ; Žabokrtský, Zdeněk (referee) ; Danecki, Janusz (referee)
(EN) Valency Dictionary of Arabic Verbs PhDr. Viktor Bielický This dissertation serves as a theoretical background for creating a valency dictionary of verbs in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) which is primarily in the form of an electronic database. The Functional Generative Description is used as a theoretical framework for the description of verbal valency in Arabic. Chapter 1 introduces the verbal system of MSA with an emphasis on semantic relations within the system of verbal morpho- semantic patterns (verbal stems). Chapter 2 outlines the current research status of valency in Arabic including various research projects focused on creating electronic databases for Arabic verbs. Chapter 3 presents an overview of a valency theory developed within the Funtional Generative Description and it also provides a brief description of two broad coverage valency dictionaries for the Czech language - VALLEX and PDT-Vallex. Chapter 4, the core of the study, analyses semantics and the surface realization of different types of valency complemens in MSA, i.e. actants, quasi-valency and free (adverbial) complements. The final chapter, Chapter 5, describes the methodology and the structure of the valency dictionary the printed version of which is attached to the thesis. Key words: verbal valency, Modern Standard...
Nominal Collocations in the Italian Civil Code
Tomaščínová, Jana ; Radimský, Jan (advisor) ; Štichauer, Pavel (referee) ; Skřejpek, Michal (referee)
The thesis deals with different aspects of nominal collocations in Italian legislation, respectively in the Italian Civil Code (codice civile). The introductory part focuses on theory and is divided into two areas. The first area covers the most important legal and linguistic issues of the language of law and its lexical means. The description of individual legal texts according to their functional styles is drawn from an analysis of individual functions of law as a complex social phenomenon. The practical part of the thesis focuses on three groups of issues. First, all excerpts were subject to the grammatical, syntactic and conceptual analyses. The second and third chapters deal with an analysis of the main issues from the perspective of translation and lexicography respectively. Special attention is paid to the existence or absence of an identical concept in both the Italian and Czech legal systems, differences in the content and scope of related concepts and potential equivalents.
Lexicographical Treatment of the Musical Terminology - Verbs in Focus
Suchánková, Eva ; Šemelík, Martin (advisor) ; Vachková, Marie (referee)
The goal of this bachelor thesis is the processing of the verbs from the music terminology according to the lexicographical raster for a German-Czech dictionary of music terminology that will be available in the form of an online database by the end of the year 2014. For processing the verbs I used an empiric method based on research in the online linguistic corpuses, where relevant examples of the use of the verbs were searched. One of the main aspects this thesis is dedicated to is specifying the group of the verbs that will be included into the database. The main source for the selection of the verbs was the Duden Universal Wörterbuch (DUW). In the inventorying of the German musical terms, its macrostructure has shown itself to be insufficient. The group of the verbs intended for processing was therefore expanded by other entries.
