The potential of psychedelics in the treatment of drug addiction in animal models.
Mallarino, Barbara ; Šíchová, Klára (advisor) ; Honc, Ondřej (referee)
Psychedelics are mind-altering and perception-changing psychoactive compounds that can produce some significant changes in the ordinary wiring of the brain. Substantial attention is paid to some of the most promising compounds for addiction and mental health research: LSD, tryptamines (psilocybin, DMT) and ibogaine. The underlying neurobiological basis of the development of addiction and relevant animal models and methods are described in the first part. Following, changes in brain regions connectivity induced by psychedelics and molecular mechanisms of action are discussed, emphasising the potential anti-addictive properties. The last part of the thesis focuses on data acquired from preclinical animal studies, which helps to further understand some of the mechanisms underlying their effectiveness in the clinical treatment of drug addiction.

This work named 'The use of bibliotherapy in people with drug addiction' deals with bibliotherapy in specific kind of people who are drug addicts. In the work is shown theoretical knowledge of the problems with drug addiction, the issues of bibliotherapy and the experience in usually used techniques of bibliotherapy with the drug-addicted people. The work also contains lists of appropriate literature with the topic of addiction from a different perspective. The main aim of this work is to suggest suitable techniques which can help to drug-addicted people using the bibliotherapy. These techniques are not tested in practice. This work also tries to present bibliotherapy as a way to help people with drug addiction. Keywords Bibliotherapy, drug addiction, drug, therapeutic community, technique, literature.
Attitudes of therapists from selected inpatient care facilities to spiritual topics and techniques in the treatment of addiction
Zemina, Jiří ; Vacek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Remeš, Prokop (referee)
Spirituality is an interesting phenomenon that is hard to describe, therefore, any person may have different understanding or meaning of it. In addictology, a bio-psycho-socio-spiritual model is used, in which you can talk about the first three dimensions but the fourth is "sometimes" omitted. Many authors urge the need to involve spiritual dimension in addiction treatment, for example by inducing altered states of consciousness. Most often in addictological practice, you encounter spirituality in the therapeutic community in form of many rituals. The aim of this paper is to describe how addictologists approach spirituality from a personal and professional point of view, their experience with specific topics and clients, and finally how they perceive different spiritual techniques and tools in addiction treatment. The theoretical part deals with the definition of spirituality, altered states of consciousness and psychospiritual crisis. In the second half of the theoretical part, spirituality and its place in addictology is dealt with together with a short chapter focusing on psychadelics and their use in addictology. The practical part presents qualitative research where a semi-structured interview was used. The interview was further analyzed and coding methods were used. Then codes were...

Role of glutamatergic transmission in mechanisms of addiction to morphine.
Moutelíková, Karolína ; Hejnová, Lucie (advisor) ; Červená, Kateřina (referee)
Drugs are used by mankind since ancient times. One group of these substances are opioids. Opioids have antinociceptive effects and can induce euphoria and relaxation as well. A chronic usage of opioids can lead to a development of drug addiction and phenomens like tolerance and sensitization. One of the most used opioids in medicine is morphine. Morphine is isolated from opium of poppy (Papaver somniferum). Direct effect of morphine is mediated via activation of μ- opioid receptors and their signal cascade. It was implicated that the usage of morphine affects other neurotransmmiter systems in the brain and these neurotransmmiter systems play a signifikant role in the development of addiction and other phenomena. One of these systems is an important excitatory brain system - glutamergic system. This bacherol thesis focuses on interrelationship between opioid and glutamatergic systems during addiction. There were described changes in a composition of glutame ionotropic receptors and changes in their expression as well as in expression of metabotropic glutamate receptors. These changes differ in various parts of the brain and in diverse stages of addiction on morphine too. In spite of all diferences, the results of studies indicate that glutamatergic receptors play a significant role in the development...
