Illustrated exchange communication system for children with mental retardation and autism

The Bachelor thesis called "Illustrated exchange communication system for children with mental retardation and autism" deals with the theme of special pedagogy. The thesis is divided into two consecutive parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part draws on professional publications and deals with terms such as autism, mental retardation, exchange image communication system, primary school and special school, communication, augmentative and alternative communication. The second part is elaborated in a practical level, where the basis is a questionnaire, which is answered by parents of children in elementary school and special school in Merklín. The aim of this work is to find out what is the awareness of parents about the exchange picture communication system and the subsequent cooperation of school and parents with other possibilities of training in the field of alternative communication.
Development of child communication skills with developmental dysphasia, utilization of alternative and augmentative communication

This thesis examines the development of communication skills of children with developmental dysphasia, with the use of augmentative and alternative communication. The work is made up of theoretical and practical part. The research focuses on the influence of elements augmentative communication intervention in children with developmental dysphasia in preschool facilities. The research part is formed by empirical research based on a case study of a boy with developmental dysphasia, case reports describing the progress of special education intervention in preschool institutions, research part is completed by the conclusions of the investigation and recommendations for practice. The aim is to show the positive influence the course of education of children with developmental dysphasia support structured learning and noticeable advances in communication development of children with the support of the graphic expression.
Speech intervention for the people with autistic spektrum disorders

The present thesis deals with the issue of providing speech-language therapies for people suffering from autism spectrum disorders. The paper and the research project particularly aim to analyse a speech-language intervention for children with an autism spectrum disorder from the view of clinical speech-language pathology. To carry out the research, five hypotheses were suggested. The hypotheses relate to clients with an ASD, to what extent specialists are informed about the issue, consecutive education of speech- language pathologists, use of alternative and augmentative communication and gaining information about ASD during university studies. The research itself is realised in two ways - the quantitative one (questionnaires distributed to clinical speech-language pathologists) and the qualitative one which focuses on the evaluation of speech-language intervention for clients with ASD in the consulting room of clinical speech-language pathologists. The following techniques were included in the research: analysis of documents and results of activities, talks to parents and monitoring. Communication Possibilities of Children with Infantile Cerebral Palsy

The aim of this thesis is to attempt to summarize what communication possibilities children suffering from a serious form of infantile cerebral palsy have, to describe them and possibly to clarify what exactly restricts these possibilities. The thesis also tries to answer the question in what way the communication of these individuals differs from the communication of intact persons. The core of the thesis resides in a theoretical exposition which deals - among others - with the communication process and its verbal and non-verbal parts, the diagnostic characterization of the infantile cerebral palsy and the impaired communication ability in symptomatic speech disorders which are associated with this disability. It describes how especially mobility impairment and mental retardation are reflected in the way and possibilities of communication. Special attention is paid to methods of alternative and augmentative communication which can be used as a therapy in the stimulation of the development of communication and speech skills, and which very often represent one of few possible ways of communicating for persons with this disability. Use of alternative and augmentative communication systems for people with disturbed communication ability

The presented bachelor thesis deals with the issue of the use of alternative and augmentative communication in people with impaired communication abilities. The text explained the theoretical basis of the work, including concepts: communication, communication disorder, Rett syndrome - RTT and systems of alternative and augmentative communication - AAC. The issue of RTT is processed to serve as a source of information about this rare disease. The thesis is mainly focused on AAC systems usable for people with RTT. The practical part consists of case study of girl with RTT. It analyzes the current development of the child, including her communication skills. It describes the current status of the level of communication skills, discusses progress of training the AAC system VOKS with this girl and analyzes the impact of the use of VOKS on her communication skills development. The Communication with a Child with ASD (autism spectrum disorder)

The thesis is devoted to the analysis of educational research experiences and feedback responses of a child with infantile autism and its close family members to specific methods of developing speech and communication. The main objective of this work is to describe all mentioned above in time sequence and to complete the progress which the child has reached based on this special education and non-education methods. The thesis has two parts, theoretical and practical. The first chapter of the theoretical part focuses on the definition of PAS and familiarisation with the relevant diagnosis. The second chapter also describes the most common symptoms of this disorder, the third chapter introduces alternative and complimentary systems of communication. The last two components of the theoretical part introduces HANDLE Approach and Structured Teaching. The practical part is dedicated to the educational research itself. Method of observation, informal interviews and document analysis has been used.
