Use of film in teaching humanities

The diploma thesis called Use of film in the teaching of humanities deals with the topic of utilization of film in education. The aim of the thesis is to find out how films are used during lessons, to explore the advantages and disadvantages of watching films and finally, to determine what films teachers prefer. The theoretical part describes basic information about the usage of films as a teaching method, media education, critical thinking and copyrights. This part also contains bibliography. The practical part is dedicated to qualitative research, analysis and interpretation of the findings.
Media Issues as a Topic for Children's University Education

This bachelor thesis deals with children´s universities which are one of various forms of informal education in the Czech republic as well as worldwide. They work mainly with gifted children, among other things they also help enrich children´s free-time activities. Most of those activities can be found at Czech universities and their parts. One of those places is the Pedagogical Faculty in České Budějovice which concentrates on various fields that reflect the faculty specialisation. Media education is an important part of the content of the children´s university. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to provide an overview of children´s universities and then focus on a specific content of one of the lessons introducing children to media issues. In addition to defining goals of media education in school or extracurricular educational levels, the work focuses on designing topics and activities with media issues, especially those that are suitable for children aged from six to fifteen attending children´s universities.
Media education in teaching of history of the post-February Czechoslovakia (including the South Bohemian region)

The presented thesis deals with the period 1948-1960 in Czechoslovakia in the teaching of history from the perspective of media education. Media education, as one of the cross-cutting themes of the Framework Educational Programmes, is conceived here mainly in terms of the influence of the media on public opinion. Based on the analysis of current history textbooks, the work deals with topics that are a suitable example of contemporary communist propaganda. Among the selected topics are political persecution, the currency reform of 1953, the reflection of propaganda in art and the campaign accompanying the fight against the potato beetle. The core of the work is the publication of materials, especially of a written and visual nature, which appropriately illustrate contemporary propaganda. At the very end of the work presents several model worksheets for teaching history, which are based on these materials.

This diploma thesis aims to map the background of new advertising strategies targeting children and adolescents. The focus is on describing the most used advertising strategies in the contemporary world of media and the environment of social media. The theoretical part describes the key information concerning the advertisement process and its effects and introduces the problem of children in consumer behavior and its development. The main emphasis is on determining selected advertising strategies. There are also mentioned the possible negative impacts of advertising on children and adolescents. The didactic part of the thesis is dedicated to the advertisement in media education and describes the prepared lessons presented in the selected elementary schools.
Cross-Curricular subjects in the teaching of mathematics at primary school

The diploma thesis presents the possibility of involving personal and social education, media education, environmental education, education towards thinking within European and global contexts, education of democratic citizen and multicultural education in the teaching of mathematics at secondary school. The diploma thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part of this defines the concept of cross-curricular subjects, lists the ways of involvement in teaching, characterizes the individual cross-curricular subjects, including their inclusion in the educational area of Mathematics and its applications and their inclusion in current mathematics schoolbooks. It also describes the teaching methods used in the practical part. The practical part is focused on activities in the area of Mathematics and its applications, including cross-curricular subjects in various stages of the conceptual process. Each activity contains a methodology of work, worksheets are also inserted here. The last chapter contains an evaluation of the benefits of activities in practice.
Youth media literacy and media use as percieved by teachers

The Master's thesis deals with the view of teachers on complex issues related to the media literacy of adolescents and the concept of media education. The first part of the work provides the necessary theoretical background, on which the empirical part stands and defines key terms related to the topic. The first chapter outlines the approaches by which it is possible to understand teacher's personality and identity. Among other things, the importance of the role that teachers play in the educational process is emphasized here. The second chapter narrows its focus to the concept of media literacy and media education. The third chapter of the thesis deals with the way how young people use the media and deals with related risks that they may encounter. The thesis includes an empirical study as well, which was realized among teachers working at elementary schools. The aim of the survey was primarily to find out and describe how teachers perceive the usage of media and how they evaluate the level of media literacy of their pupils. The discussion and the conclusion of the work then summarize the findings.
Media education in chemistry teaching

This thesis deals with the integration of media education into chemistry teaching. The thesis is divided in two parts. The first part develops media education as a tool to obtain media literacy, didactics approach in teaching of media education and methods used in those teachings. Undisputable part of the first part of this thesis is the position of media education in curricular documents in the Czech Republic and investigation of a real state of media education teachings at Czech primary and secondary schools. The results of the investigation showed that the skill of media literacy of students in the Czech Republic is rather below average. The investigation also showed that the most common form of implementation of media education teaching is integration into other educational areas. Second part of the thesis contains a questionnaire among teachers of science subjects focused on integration of media education and educational materials which were prepared after evaluation of first part of the thesis, and which are a practical demonstration of a relationship between media education and chemistry subject. Lower secondary school media education: Reflections on available programs and design of new lessons

The aim of the present diploma thesis is to focus on teaching aspects of media education. In the first chapter it defines the term media literacy, presents the conception of this concept by different educational institutions in the international context and compares them with each other. In the next chapter, the Czech concept is introduced and compared with the previous ones. Space is also devoted to the topic of media education, media pedagogy and media andragogy. It is followed by a section dealing with the situation of media literacy in Czech schools in the light of surveys conducted, which focuses on their conclusions. In the next part, the thesis maps the didactic foundations for teaching media education, focusing on two projects dedicated to it. It presents their introduction and compares two specific programmes. It also presents an overview of several other projects that offer didactic support to teachers in teaching media education. On the basis of the identified gaps in the Czech concept of media education, a lesson designed for upper elementary pupils is proposed. Magazines for Children and Youth (Children's Periodicals in the Context of Art Education)

The bachelor thesis describes the origin and development of periodical publications in the context of art education, analyses their position on the media market in the Czech Republic and abroad. The history of children's periodicals is considered. The modern market of children's periodicals and its problems are also considered, and the peculiarities of children's perception of periodical products and the specifics of work in publishing a professional children's magazine are identified. The theoretical part examines the magazines published for children and youth since the beginning and during the 19th century, further published since World War II and during the period of normalization. It traces the development of illustration and magazines in terms of creative education from the very beginning of the periodicals to the present day and focuses on the individual magazines that inspired the creation of children's magazines. The didactic part examines the possibilities of using magazines in the classroom and the suggestions from the point of view of media education, whether the individual tasks for creating a magazine are comprehensible and elaborable for children.
