Bachelor thesis The peacekeeping partnership between the UN and a regional organisation: case of cooperation between UN peacekeeping operation UNOMIG and CIS peacekeeping operation CISPKF Anna Fošumpaurová Abstract The thesis deals with the United Nations' peacekeeping operations. Particular focus is dedicated to cooperation between the UN and regional organisations and what potential benefits and limitations this cooperation offers to peacekeeping. The case study aims to describe the cooperation between in parallel deployed operations of the United Nations (UNOMIG) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CISPKF) in Georgia, Abkhazia. The chronological span of the thesis is between the August 1993 and June 2009, when UN operation UNOMIG was active. The thesis firstly provides the theoretical framework of UN peacekeeping. This part lays out the legal basis for the deployment of peacekeeping operations, investigates different ways of understanding peacekeeping and its classifications, its basic principles as well as wider processes that influenced peacekeeping's nature after the end of the Cold War, including the increased participation of regional organisations. Peacekeeping forces as an instrument of enforcement of influence abroad: South Ossetia case

The bachellor thesis deals with Russian use of the Joint Control Commission in South Ossetia by which they aim to preserve its influence in Georgia, that is being one of the post-soviet republics. The first part of the thesis is focusing on the historical context of this event, which includes the decription of the origin of the Joint Control Commission as well as what responsibilities and jurisdictions had an impact on the participating states of the commission. The second part of the thesis is presented as a case study of the RussoGeorgian war in 2008, where are shown specific examples of the Russian use of its peacekeeping forces, which were depoloyed to maintain the influence abroad. The thesis concludes by providing an outline that answers whether Russia managed maintain or even boost its power in Georgia by using the peacekeeping units.
Russian 'hybrid warfare': 1979-2014

This bachelor thesis deals with research question of whether so called Russian hybrid warfare is new or not. In the introduction chapter, a structure of this thesis is presented. After the introduction, Western and Russian views on hybrid warfare are discussed and used as a concept. The author assumes that hybrid warfare was used by Russia in Crimea and eastern Ukraine and therefore is this case considered as proven. Above mentioned Russian view on hybrid warfare is operationalized and then applied. There are two main cases which will be examined - Soviet invasion in Afghanistan in 1979 and Russian war with Georgia in 2008. Results chapter comprises of final table which sums up results of the research. In the conclusion chapter, there is a clear answer to the above-mentioned research question.
Geopolitical aspects of transport interconnections development in the Southern Caucasus

Pavel Makovský: Geopolitical aspects of transport interconnections development in the Southern Caucasus Abstract This study solves transport interconnection in the South Caucasus region with a focus on four modes of transport - air, rail, road and pipeline. The research covers regional cooperation and cross-border involvement of other states and international organizations. Literature and data research from statistical office of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia sites, which I analyzed and confronted with the liberal theory of functionalism (neofunctionalism) and the opposite theory of realism (neorealism), was conducted. The result is an interdependence analysis evaluated at two ranks (regional and cross-border). It is followed by the applicability and summary of all political actors acting on the basis of liberal or realistic thinking. The power of small states: A case study of Georgia (2004-2012)

This study focuses on use of foreign-policy power by Georgia on USA, EU member states and Russia during 2004-2012. In this period, Georgia wanted to enter into alliance with USA and EU states and gain access to Euro-Atlantic organizations, European Union and NATO. At the same time, Georgia wanted to reduce Russian influence on Georgian soil. After a few months of the new Georgian regime it was clear that the relation with its big neighbor will be difficult, mainly because of the two separatist republics on Georgian-Russian border, Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The aim of this study is to determine categories of power that Georgia used to achieve its goals. The study uses concepts of small state and power in international relations. Besides, it uses Nye's concept of soft and hard power. For influencing Western states Georgia chose the combination of soft and hard power. Soft power of Georgia has been mainly based on presentation of attractive values - pro-Western thinking a democracy - which should have attracted Western support. To a lower extent, foreign policy and culture were also used as sources of soft power. Georgia's hard power consisted of security importance and economic and political value of the country. This diploma thesis deals with the dissolution of the Soviet Union in the Georgian soviet socialistic republic and its transformation into an independent democratic state. The thesis analyses how soviet political institutions have turned into democratic ones. In connection with that the thesis will stress the general social situation including the civil war in the 1990s and the relationship of the new state towards the Russian Federation. New comparative method for assessing tourism potential: the case of Georgia, Israel and Cyprus _______________________________________________________________________________________ Abstract This bachelor thesis presents a new comparative method by which it would be possible to evaluate the tourism potential of states or regions at the international level while comparing them in terms of eligibility for tourism development. The main goal of the thesis is to create the own new methodology. However, this is preceded by a relatively detailed theoretical and methodological literature review, in which mainly the current approaches to assessing the tourism potential are introduced. The use of the new method in practice is presented on the example of a comparison of three different destinations - Georgia, Israel and Cyprus. These countries have surprisingly many in common, including approximately the same number of international tourist arrivals. However, the tourism potential is very different, not only when comparing its final value, but even more when comparing all the values of individual factors from which the overall potential is compounded. The aim of this thesis is to describe the origin and development of the Common Foreign and Security Policy and Common Security and Defense Policy within the European Union and its functioning in the events of two selected conflicts - between Kosovo and Serbia and between Georgia and South Ossetia and Russia. The thesis deals with the European Union´s approach towards Kosovo and Georgia before the conflicts, during the post-conflict situations and with civilian missions in the framework of Common Security and Defense Policy, which operates in both countries.

This thesis analyzes the security and economic development of Georgia in years 1990 to 2015. This thesis deals with the development of Georgia with respect to its political and security measures. By means of economic indicators it discusses the correspondence between the overall security development and the economic development. This bachelor thesis is divided into three parts. Firstly, there is a literary research that deals with the theoretical approaches to security and economic development. Secondly, the analysis of security and economic development of Georgia in a given period is presented. The last part discusses the proposed transformation of the security system of Georgia in terms of the process of integration into NATO.

Eva Karlíková Role národnostních koncepcí v gruzínsko zském konfliktu Tato práce je proniknutím do problematiky etnopolitického konfliktu mezi Gruzíny a Abcházci a vyústění soužití těchto etnik v ozbrojený konflikt v - Práce se úvodu zabývá í etnického konfliktu, vymezení faktorů, které k etnickému konfliktu směřují, následnou analýzou identity obou etnik a historickými událostmi, které k vyústění ozbrojený konflikt nadále výrazně přispěly. Práce zasazuje historické udál identitách a původu obou etnik do kontextu teoretického rámce etnopolitických konfliktů. Současně v práci dochází k vymezení rozdílnosti obou etnik na základě jejich diferenciovaného historického původu, identity a s tím spjatým rozdílným vnímáním sebe navzájem. Práce rovněž důvody zesílené intenzity nacionalistických cítění příslušníků obou etnických průběhu jejich společného soužití v jednom státě i před ním. Veškerý vývoj identity i cionalismu těchto etnik je v práci za do kontextu historických událostí, které předcházely ozbrojenému konfliktu v 90. letech, který mezi těmito etniky vypuknul. Práce popisuje samotný ozbrojený konflikt a uvádí důvody, které k němu přispěly a bez kterých by němu nedošlo xním přehledem historických i kulturních příčin a katalyzátorů etnopolitického konfliktu mezi Gruzíny a Abcházci.
