Spica/ Brno, Nove sady 49°11'20.3"N 16°36'29.4"E
Křenek, Roman ; Havlíček, Tomáš (referee) ; Nový, Vítězslav (advisor)
The new town hall for Brno Stred is the icing on the cake following the planned large-scale construction of the new Main Railway Station and the Trnitá district, which should connect this railway station with the historic center. Such a change will significantly affect the expression of the city center, and such a step definitely has to include a modern representative institution. The concept is situated on the edge of the historic center at the estuary of the planned boulevard of the Trnitá district in Nové sady, above which the dominant of Brno Petrov rises. For this reason, the design of the town hall must be sufficiently representative, but at the same time lowly towards the historic buildings. Along with this fact, I am trying to answer the question of what the town hall of the 21st century should look like.

Above the solved area is the castle, which is a dominant and a city landmark. The aim of the proposal was to use the potential of the territory at most, but at the same time to approach the surrounding landscape sensitively and to connect the urban character of the surrounding urban structure of the city and, conversely, the existing buildings of unclosed blocks are supplemented by new development.
Impact assessment of the shopping mall construction on the city centre
Zavřelová, Pavla ; Spilková, Jana (advisor) ; Bednář, Pavel (referee)
This thesis focuses on problems related to unregulated construction of shopping malls in the city centres. Shopping malls are often built considering their negative effects on small merchants, urban environment etc. This particular problem was analyzed in two cities (Pardubice and Liberec) using elements of Retail Impact Assessment study and counterfactual impact evaluation method. Results showed that placing the shopping malls to the city centre changes the structure of retail units in its vicinity. Since customers prefer larger shopping facilities, their shopping behaviour changes, and small merchants are forced to addapt and compete with "all under one roof" shopping centers. Some of them cannot compete with these centers and are forced to close. Contribution of this research focuses on application of unique methods which indicated a need to regulate and coordinate building of large shopping centers within Czech cities. Key words: retail impact assessment, city centre, vitality, shopping mall

HOUSE ON THE EDGE – Valašské Meziříčí, Sokolská Street
Švec, Martin ; Müller, Zdeněk (referee) ; Ruller, Ivan (advisor)
Modern and lightweight-looking architectural concept of the town house, which is the counterbalance to the former historical development and highlight of the look-through axe from the Main square. The inner-space functional allocation come through to the exterior look of the building. The former Poláškova street is extended, there is the piazetta with outside seating. The parter is determined by the roof cantilever and the wooden pergola with the outdoor LED illumination. In the ground floor there are two shopping spaces, pharmacy and film café. The first floor contains rehab centre. Its look is maximally lightweighted, the fassade is made only from the structural glassing. This makes the contrast between the ground floor growing up from the ground a the three-storeyed section for living. This part of building is carried by massive frames from reinforced concrete and is designed as a wood framework with pasted frames and gridiron ceiling pannels. It contains 28 appartments. Most of them are low-cost, epecially for young families and singles. In the underground are three storeys of parking. 81 places are the replacement of former public parking. The arrival ramp is situated on the south side by the Sokolská street. The connection point to the busy drive-through road is on the former crossroad with the Králova street, where are newly installed the traffic lights. The access to the shops is situated on the north side by the historical town centre. To cross the parcel is possible next to the building through the small park on the western side, or throught the centre of the bulding. The terrace above the ground floor is walkable and accessible by the stairs from piazetta or by the skew roof of the film café. The skew roof contains also benches and artificial waterfall, which ends in the fountain. The fountain is there for the good feeling of the space and for technical reasins. It is connected with the reservoir of the rain water.
