Svoboda, David ; Weiss, Tomáš (advisor) ; Králová, Kateřina (referee)
The bachelor's work Building the hotspots in order to strengthen the common border security after the Arab Spring is dedicated to analysis of how hotspots in Italy and Greece have helped to the reduction of migration crisis in the EU. Ancient History in comics
Dragounová, Veronika ; Kepartová, Jana (advisor) ; Zdichynec, Jan (referee)
The subject of this thesis is comic books which are in themes and subject matter devoted to the history of ancient Greece and Rome. Attention is paid to comic books which were published from the beginning of the genre up to the present day, with the intention to document the largest spectrum of content and various conceptions of illustration. The goal is to analyse these publications both from the perspective of structure and, most importantly, from the viewpoint of factual correctness. The thesis pays attention to the concept of a story and to the author's intention to educate the reader; but taking into consideration that these books are fictional with the main purpose to entertain the reader. This aim is closely connected to another substantial objective of the thesis, which is to evaluate the benefit of these publications for children's literature and to consider the adequancy, whether the amount of factual knowledge is suitable for the intended child or juvenile reader. The potential use and application in the teaching of ancient history within the framework of school history teachers or other educational programs is also taken into consideration.
EU Regional and Cohesion Policy Implementation of Greece in Western Thrace: Case of Turkish Minority in Western Thrace
Aptourachim Oglou, Kerem ; Kasáková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Hazir, Ediz (referee)
Regional and Cohesion Policy is the EU's most operational and close-citizen development policy, with visible results. However, with interdependent economic, social, and territorial dimensions, impact of Cohesion Policy (CP) in various regions and social groups has become a contested subject recently. Besides, a particular importance has been given to promoting social cohesion in recent years as a result of successful enlargement waves and economic financial crisis that have brought significant socioeconomic imbalances across social groups including marginalised communities and minorities. CP has broadened its scope to include more social issues and human rights in line with EU strategies in recent years, despite the fact that it does not directly reflect a minority policy. As a result, combating with social exclusion and promoting social inclusion with focus on minorities and vulnerable groups has become CP's primary objectives during the last two programming periods. Therefore, this study examines social inclusion objective of CP in a particular minority region, Western Thrace of Greece, where the Turkish minority exist. Focusing on two main criteria of social inclusion, active participation to socioeconomic and public life and access to resources, services and rights, this study aims to reveal to...
Parakratos in Post-Civil War Greece: Reality and Interpretation
Karasová, Nikola ; Králová, Kateřina (advisor) ; van Steen, Gonda (referee) ; Brunnbauer, Ulf (referee)
Based on a historiographical, archival and media analysis, this doctoral thesis explores the phenomenon of parakratos (translated as deep state or parastate) in post-civil war Greece (1949-1967). Research perspectives are fourfold: Firstly, parakratos is discussed in the context of academic debates on parapolitics and the concepts of the dual state, the security state and the deep state; and presented as a Cold War parallel power mechanism, analogical to Italy and Turkey. Secondly, parakratos is analysed as part of domestic political reality through the prism of the historical events documented in Greek historiography. In this sense, the thesis concentrates on the emergence and operation of clandestine military groups and parastate ultra- nationalist organisations against the backdrop of the Greek political, legal and social environment. Both phenomena are elaborated on through the lens of the inefficient Greek political and administrative system, a deeply divided society, the politicisation of the public space, and the persistence of clientelist networks constructed upon political loyalties. Third, the parakratos is examined on an interpretative level as a term and concept employed in Greek historiography. Focusing on its presumed roots, actors, purposes and relations with the state, three...
Skepticism in ancient Greece
Dědič, Ondřej ; Hogenová, Anna (advisor) ; Hauser, Michael (referee)
This bachelor's thesis deals with the topic of skepticism in ancient Greece. By the skepticism is not only meant one of the schools in the Hellenistic period, but also thought attitude based on skeptical relation to the world. One of the aims of the thesis is to clarify what skepticism means and which role it plays in philosophy and other one is to observe the phenomenon of skepticism during the beginning of philosophy, ie in ancient Greece. Special emphasis will be given to the already mentioned Hellenistic skepticism, which worked with skepticism in a more radical concept than previous philosophers. In this case will be used for understanding the only primary source called Outlines of Pyrrhonism by the late ancient thinker Sextus Empiricus. In addition to this work, the thesis will draw on a variety of secondary sources, such as Lives of eminent philosophers written by Diogen Laertius. KEYWORDS Greece, skepticism, philosophy, Pyrrho of Elis, Sextus Empiricus
Intergovernmental Cooperation in Resolving the Eurozone Crisis
Nevola, Jan ; Havelka, Vít (advisor) ; Weiss, Tomáš (referee)
This bachelor thesis focuses on the topic of the Euro crisis intending to identify crisis- solving strategies. It considers the period between 2010 and 2012 during which several key measures were taken and new institutions were established to provide financial assistance to the Eurozone Member States. The work analyses the nature of these institutions and the decisions taken. The intention is to determine whether the steps that led to the protection of the Eurozone were predominantly intergovernmental-driven or whether the main drivers of the processes were supranational institutions. The introductory chapters explain the causes of the crisis, its institutional framework and highlight several views on solving the crisis as presented in the research of other authors. Furthermore, they introduce the theoretical-analytical framework based on the theories of intergovernmentalism, respectively liberal intergovernmentalism and neofunctionalism. The analytical part of the work, first, specifies the research methodology. Then, the discussion presents the findings of the research and confronts them with the research of other authors who analyzed this issue. The conclusion summarizes the work and draws on the results of the analysis to answer the research question that is defined in the introduction.
