Finnish-Russian Relations after Finland´s Joining the EU
Cvejnová, Barbora ; Zemanová, Štěpánka (advisor) ; Sršeň, Radim (referee)
The master thesis describes the Finnish-Russian relations after 1995, that means the year when Finland joined the EU. The current mutual relations are considered to be excellent even in spite of Finland's negative experience from the past. The aim of the thesis is to analyze Finnish-Russian relations and to outline their individual fields. The question is whether the excellent relations will be continued or if there are any factors that could impair the development of the relations. The question might also be to which extent the experience from the past could determine some of the issues, such as Finland's joining the NATO or the Karelian question.

Parliamentary parties in the Czech Republic: functions, tools, stability
Kuta, Martin ; Reschová, Jana (advisor) ; Němec, Jan (referee) ; Kysela, Jan (referee)
The thesis deals with activities of Czech parliamentary parties during EU-affairs discussion in the Chamber of Deputies, Parliament of the Czech Republic. The main focus is on three characteristic features of political parties during their activities on the parliamentary level: stability (rhetorical, voting, and programmatic), use of parliamentary oversight tools, and fulfilling their systemic function. The parties are seen through the prism of behavioural approach. EU-affairs are a rather new topic with a variable salience for national parties. EU-affairs influence party competition in extra-parliamentary arena. Conflict, however non-salient topics in parliamentary arena are ousted by governmental parties in order for them to keep governmental stability. The parties do not act according to their party manifestoes (low level of Europeanization); instead, their voting behaviour indicates that the parties follow logic of parliamentary competition between government and opposition. Parliamentarization of EU governance (engagement of national parliaments in broader institutional setting of the EU) leads to spreading of party competition on the national level to a new policy area. Political parties use tools of parliamentary scrutiny in a rather limited extent and according to their actual position within the system. The thesis also deals with party nomination and composition of the Committee on European affairs which holds oversight powers. The empirical analysis is based on the analysis of voting behaviour of parliamentary party groups (roll-call data), stenographic records, Committee and plenary session resolutions and quantitative analysis of composition of the Committee.

The Czech translations of Charles Dickens's Oliver Twist: A comparison of lexical means
Mitlenerová, Silvie ; Beran, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Jindra, Miroslav (referee)
This B. A. thesis attempts to compare the most important Czech translations of Charles Dickens' novel Oliver Twist. The considered translations are the one by Emanuel Tilsch and Emanuela Tilschová (1966), the one by Arno Kraus (1952) and the one by Ladislav Vymětal (1930). In some cases, Božena Šimková's translation (1908) and the translation by Mary Dolejší (1926) are considered among others as well. The main criteria are lexical and stylistic means used by the characters of various social groups in their speech. The thesis also analyzes how the translators dealt with various registers of the Czech language from the highest, archaic ones to the substandard, dialectical and even argotic levels. At the end of the thesis, a question is raised to what extent the main translations in consideration have followed the general development of the Czech translation arts. Another question sorts out if time is already up for a new translation of Oliver Twist, or if the last Czech version still suits its readers properly.

Natural restoration of mining sites: Vegetation succession and soil development: A case study from granodiorite quarries and dumps near the town Skuteč

Ir !ntroduction Environmenta| impaď caused by mining is considerab|e' The impact of mining on re|ief and landscape character is particularly substantial as could be documented on earth material transfer. While transfer of earth material caused by natural processes (erosion, sedimentation) is about 4 millions of cubic meters per year, anthropogenic transfer is close to 330 millions (Kukal' 2006) and material transfer due to mining represents the greatest proportion' lt is estimated that the surface minera| extraďion already covers 1% of the |and surface (Wa|ker & del Moral 2003). |n the czech Republic the extent of mining sites reached 0,8% in 2006 (Statistical Environmental Yearbook of the Czech Republic 2008). These sites are often unique and contrasting with the surrounding landscape and might harbor specific species afrer mine/quarry abandonment. Traditional approach to restoration was considered to be the restoration (reclamation) of production, whether agricultural or forestry, causing elimination of potential site diversity by morphology adjustment' topsoil application and tree planting or trefoil-grass...

The community and environmental protection
Vévoda, Jan ; Drobník, Jaroslav (referee) ; Žákovská, Karolina (advisor)
Municipalities and the Protection of the Environment The main aim of this Master's Degree thesis is to analyze mutual relations between two important branches of Czech law, the environmental law and the legal regulation of municipalities, which is the key part of a system of public administration in the Czech Republic and also a reliable measure of citizen participation in politics and the functioning of the state. There are two reasons why I have decided to choose this topic. The first one is that it is very close to me personally because of the region I come from, White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area where small municipalities play an important role in administering daily matters of public interest. The second reason is that I consider the subject very challenging due to the lack of existing sources and works, which are devoted to it. The diversity in environmental compartments and subsequent extent of the topic resulted in the necessity choose one group of closely related legislation. I have elected legal regulation of nature and landscape, forest and land protection. The purpose of the thesis in respect of this sort of legislation is to find out, compare and analyze the role of municipalities in the protection of aforesaid environmental compartments, uncover problems of the legal...

The present state in declension of Czech nouns belonging to types kámen, břímě
Šimandl, Josef ; Čermák, František (advisor) ; Kučera, Karel (referee) ; Rusínová, Lenka (referee)
There are two groups of noun in Czech - the type kámen 'stone' among inanimate masculine nouns, and the type břemeno/břímě 'burden' among neuters - that vary between the "hard" and "soft" declension. The kernel of both groups was n-stems in Old Slavonic. Their ancient endings are reflected as soft endings in present-day Czech. During the development, former n-stems acquired also hard endings, for the plural commonly, for the singular to a various extent. Acquiring newer endings was reflected in language handbooks; however, long-term processes were sometimes overestimated and a development was anticipated that in fact still did not happen. The thesis submitted tries to describe the state of form variation according to approachable data about the present usage. The data source was the representative corpus of present-day Czech SYN2000, as a supplementary source other corpora (incl. user-defined subcorpus SYNod2000), and the Internet. Findings from the diachronic corpus DIAKORP, supplemented by electronic excerpts from further diachronic texts, partly illuminate the development of the variation observed, as well as electronic excerpts from Kralice Bible (1613). ...

Hubová, Martina ; Čelko, Alexander (advisor)
The goal of this work was to outline the problems of burn injuries and to present the possible way of their prevention in children. I participated in this project while I was on learning program in Italy, where it already exists for couple of months. Here is a detailed description of the program together with the czech version of the material. Burns belong to one of the most serious injuries. It is very big risk of life-treat especially in children. Their body is more senzitive for any changes, their skin is more delicate and vulnerable for high temperature, quite small extent of burns can lead to developing of shock and subsequently to death. Prevention is always better then care. We can realize it in different ways.We can manage to reduce the risk of burn injuries by technical precautions, legislation changes or thanks to the education. This work is focused in education of children. The prevention program has the comics form, which is easily understandable, explanatory and mainly entertainig method. Through the illustrated stories and comics characters we would like to obtain childrens interest and try to give them sufficient imagination and knowledge, useful in risk situations. The comics should be distributed to schools, it should serve for educating, it should be in pediatric ambulances and available...

The Complicated Development in Hlučínsko and Indentification of Its Population with The Czechoslovak Republic in the Years 1920 to 1938
Emmert, František
Hlučínsko, a small Silesian region, did not use to belong to the Austro-Hungary, but to Germany, before the foundation of Czechoslovakia. Still after 1920 the local Czech inhabitants stayed strongly influenced by the previous jurisdiction of Prussia and German Empire. In the so-called first republic period pro-German spirit was still dominating in the region. The region itself even became an electorate base of the German political parties, including the Sudetengerman Party (SdP), and thus in the same extent as germanophonic borderland. At the end of the 1930s the Czechoslovak authorities admitted that the entire process of integration into the republic had not been particularly sucessful.
