The carbon footprint of households in South Bohemia
VOŠTOVÁ, Marie
The thesis deals with carbon footprint of households in South Bohemia, namely greenhouse gas emissions associated with the ordinary activities of each of us. The main objective of this thesis is to calculate the carbon footprint of households in the South Bohemia Region. The partial aim is then to assess which of the monitored components has the largest share of the total carbon footprint. These components are heating, electricity, cars, public transport, flying and food. Another partial objective is to compare the results in sociodemographic groups, which are residence, gender, education, age and income per person. The theoretical part explains the concepts such as global warming, sustainable development, ecological footprint, carbon footprint, and three already realized research on carbon footprint. The practical part describes the data acquisition, GILDED project, which was the inspiration for this thesis and method for calculating the carbon footprint. The main part consists of evaluating the calculated results, not overall carbon footprint, but also comparisons within categories of residence, gender, education, age, and income per person. The thesis finishes with the summary, which summarizes the most important results.
The carbon footprint of the building industry and its theoretical value
Halama, Miroslav ; Vaňková, Lucie (referee) ; Krejza, Zdeněk (advisor)
Presented theses dealing with the complex influence of human activity on the environment. Particularly provides the calculation of carbon footprint volume consumed during manufacturing of raw materials used for a normal and a low-energy house. The calculation of the energy performance certificate for both variants is also included. To evaluate of economical demanding investment to both mentioned houses including carbon dioxide disposal, the theoretical calculation of the price of carbon footprint equivalent has to be determined. The aim of this study is an investigation of carbon footprint in construction industry focusing on the production of carbon dioxide during the realization of a normal and low-energy house.
Development of the Carbon Footprint of the Czech Republic since 1989
POJMANOVÁ, Lucie
The thesis is focused on the development of the carbon footprint in the Czech Republic. The object is to determine the causes referring to the changes in greenhouse gas emissions. The comparison of the dynamic of greenhouse gases with the changes in indicators such as gross domestic product, legislation, economics and technology are researched. I compared the development of two indicators - the growth of the carbon footprint and the growth of GDP. Correlation analysis was done and it has been shown that there is a decoupling of economic growth from negative environmental impacts. Then I examined the changes in policy after 1989, which had an impact on this issue. Another important aspect was the entry into the European Union, which brought many changes and important legislation in the environmental field.
Carbon Dioxide in Science Education (Study Aids for Grammar School)
Kristlová, Lucie ; Šulcová, Renata (advisor) ; Urbanová, Klára (referee)
Charles University in Prague - Faculty of Science Department of Teaching and Didactics of Chemistry Albertov 3, 128 40 Praha 2, Czech Republic CARBON DIOXIDE IN SCIENCE EDUCATION (STUDY AIDS FOR GRAMMAR SCHOOL) Bc. Lucie Kristlová lucie.kristlova@gmail.com In this thesis the principles of Framework Educational Programme and method IBSE alias Inquiry Based Science Education were summarized. The results of international research PISA 2006 were evaluated. In 2006 the focus was on scientific literacy. In the theoretical part the study supporting documents on the theme Carbon Dioxide were worked up. The documents would serve teachers of Chemistry and Biology mainly at the grammar schools. Methodically processed materials were created such as presentation, worksheet and subject matter of chemical experiments with the inclusion of the author solutions. The worksheet was verified by pupils at grammar school.
Real potential of renewable energy sources in Czech republic
Tofel, Jan ; Kropáč, Jiří (referee) ; Máša, Vítězslav (advisor)
The aim of this thesis is to present the basic characteristics of renewable energy sources and assess their potential for further use in the Czech Republic. Based on studying literature, statistics, foreign experience and consultation with experts is reviewed which of these resources in the Czech Republic give meaning or how to ensure their effective use. The individual chapters of the thesis describe in detail the characteristics of renewable energy and in the final chapter are reviewed economic and environmental terms.
A comparison of the carbon footprint of food consumption of households in the EU regions
PEŠEK, Roman
The thesis compares the carbon footprints generated by household food consumption in urban and rural areas of selected regions within the European Union, and deepens the knowledge of the impact contemporary society has on global climate change. Selected regions come from the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary and the Netherlands. The first part summarises the findings of climate change and its impact on the environment, the concept of sustainable development, and the consumer behaviour of the Czech population in the food sector, with a focus on the possibility to influence carbon footprint production. The second part addresses the particular comparison of carbon footprints generated by household food consumption and evaluates the results. The conclusion from this part of the dissertation can be used as a guide to help reduce carbon footprints through food consumption.
Carbon footprint of the town České Budějovice
FIŠEROVÁ, Michaela
Diploma thesis deals with the carbon footprint´s enumeration of the town České Budějovice. Based on the evaluation of the its particular segments there are the measures for reduction proposed. Furthermore the amount of the carbon footprint is compared with the value of the carbon footprint of the Czech Republic and five other towns. The compared towns are Chrudim, Jilemnice, Krnov, Svitavy a Semily.
Organic Food and its Position on the Czech Market
Hojerová, Eliška ; Turnerová, Lenka (advisor) ; Drozen, František (referee)
The thesis defines a concept of organic food and a closer look is given to an organic agriculture - a place of origin for organic food. The second part discusses benefits of organic food for consumers and looks for consumer purchase motives. Third and fourth part is devoted to rules of labeling and opportunities for improvement in this area. Other consumer brands and a current state on organic food market are presented here as well. Variety of products offered and availability of organic food at the particular points of sale are analyzed in the final part.
Carbon footprint of computers in the computer class at VSE
Kovařík, Lukáš ; Gála, Libor (advisor) ; Basl, Josef (referee)
This bachelor's thesis is about carbon footprint. It looks into assessing of carbon footprint. Theoretical knowledge is applied afterwards in a case study. Main goal is assessing of carbon footprint of computers that are located in computer class. The first part is about definition of carbon footprint. Then there are presented three different points of view of carbon footprinting. There is a part focused on software solutions that helps companies monitor their carbon footprint as well. Second part of this thesis includes the case study that is focused on assessing of carbon footprint in the area of information and communications technology. There is an analysis of activities and processes that computers in class are involved into. Then the consumption of electric energy is measured. On its basis the size of carbon footprint is calculated. The result offers the estimation of University of Economics' size of carbon footprint that is suitable indicator in the context of environment protection.
Effect of flash ads on the environment and its comparison with the production of PET bottles
Krejčí, Martin ; Koblovský, Petr (advisor) ; Rod, Aleš (referee)
This bachelor thesis examines the impact of online advertisments created using Flash technology on the environment in the U.S. and then compares it to influence of production of PET bottles on the environment in the U.S.. The thesis describes the functioning of the flash ads. In the analysis there are compared the carbon footprint left-out of the difference in electricity consumption in the enabled and disabled Flash ads and production of PET bottles. The aim of the analysis is to compare the costs of flash advertising and PET bottles in term of environment and to consider revenues resulting from them and to answer the question whether the flash advertisement market is not regulated only because it does not seem originally to damage the environment as much as PET bottles does, and if it should not be regulated.
