Narrative strategies in Albert Camus novels

Anton Popovič and his contribution to the development of translation studies
Špirk, Jaroslav ; Králová, Jana (referee) ; Jettmarová, Zuzana (advisor)
This theoretic-historiographical thesis deals with the personality of the Slovak scholar Anton Popovič (1933-1984) and his contribution to translation studies between the late 1960s the early 1980s. The thesis examines the theoretical and methodological underpinnings of Popovič's theoretical work (especially Jiří Levý and František Miko), analyzes his most important publications within the field of translation studies, and discusses criticisms as well as inspirations of his conception of translation. The thesis concludes with an evaluation of Popovič's role in developing Czechoslovak and international translation studies, most importantly of the so-called descriptive translation studies, or the manipulation school. The contribution of this thesis may be regarded primarily as a first attempt at a comprehensive study of the personality and thinking of Anton Popovič.

Ingeborg Bachmann in Czech literature and culture
Nováková, Andrea ; Císlerová, Eva (referee) ; Veselá, Gabriela (advisor)
V úvodu diplomové práce představuji život a dílo Ingeborg Bachmannové.

Relevance of Lonergan's theory of understanding for the method in theology
Regner, Jan ; Pelc, Bogdan (advisor) ; Pospíšil, Ctirad Václav (referee)
The aim of the paper called "Relevance of the Lonergan's Theory of Understanding for the Method in Theology" is to present the contribution of the Lonergan's original epistemological studies for a method, not only in theology. In the base of the paper, there are a question how much is important or even necessary for theology to consider its own methodology in the context of interdisciplinary dialog between philosophy, theology and natural sciences. Lonergan's Transcendental Method is based on his epistemological understanding, especially his so called "Cognitive Structure". He describes our cognitive operations and classifies them in several levels. First three are empirical, intellectual and rational. According Lonergan, from the last level we normally move to ethical campus. Then he realizes that in human lives there are phenomena which we could call intellectual, moral or religious conversions. These are fundamental for the Transcendental Method. Lonergan then defines eight steps of the Method: research, interpretation, history, dialectic, foundations, doctrines, systematics and communications. Some critics object that Lonergan's methodological investigations are too general to be a theological method. Nevertheless, we have to recognize his inspiring attempt to find an adequate way to do...

A cycle about love written by Princess Alexandra of Dietrichstein, married Countess Schouwaloff: German Love, Italian Love, Russian Love, Swiss Love.
MUSILOVÁ, Martina
The bachelor thesis focuses on selected literary pieces written in French by Alexandrine Schouwaloff, married Dietrichstein (1775-1847), a noblewoman of Russian descent. The handwritten works survived in Dietrichstein´s Family Archives in the Moravian Land Archives in Brno. The first part of the thesis concentrates on life of the countess. I have felt the necessity of describing the turn of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth century, its cultural milieu where the writer lived as well as her background and later life when she wrote her books. The following part presents the author's writings of literary and personal nature. The love cycle contains four novellas - German Love, Italian Love, Russian Love, Swiss Love - which are analyzed based on genre, themes and narrative. The analysis and interpretation of selected excerpts reveal the applied linguistic method and its function in the text. The objective of my thesis is to introduce the writer as an unknown artist, integrate her within the literary and historical framework of her period and reveal at least a small part of her unpublished literary heritage.

Prophecy, Astrology and Chronology in the Works of Refugees Paul Felgenhauer and Simeon Particius
Urbánek, Vladimír
A paper deals with the topic which has not been studied in depth by Czech historiography - a phenomenon of early modern prophecy and astrological prognostications. Several works of Paul Felgenhauer (1593-1677) and Simeon Partlicius (ca 1590-ca 1640), both post- 1620 Protestant refugees from Bohemian lands, are analyzed in the context of mystical and apocalyptic thought and the attempts to create a world history chronology using astrological schemes.

Prologue
Procházka, Jiří ; DAŇHEL, Jan (advisor) ; Brothánek, Adam (referee)
In film, the term “prologue” nowadays denotes almost everything that appears before the opening credits. The meaning of this word is not fixed. This thesis does not define the “prologue” phenomenon and does not wish to describe it in the historical context of art spheres. It deals with the opening scenes at the beginning of a film before the onset of the actual composition of the main story and addresses their functions in the entire dramaturgic structure of the work. To facilitate the apprehension and description of “prologue”, the thesis attempts to generalise the term and classify it into several groups according to defined criteria. It does not set itself the objective of forming a definition but of analysing the dramaturgic structure of a conventionally understood term “prologue” and initiating a discussion on all fronts of the film-making profession about this tool that can do more than just touching up the first few minutes of a film.
