City as a fictional character in the postmodernist novel: Alexandria Quartet and The Moor's Last Sigh
Freimannová, Dominika ; Beran, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Clark, Colin Steele (referee)
in English This Bachelor thesis engages with the topic of a portrayal of the city in the postmodern novel which is then studied on the example of two chosen novels: Alexandria Quartet by Lawrence Durrell and The Moor's Last Sigh by Salman Rushdie. Both novels present the urban space as a female character with a strong influence upon the events and the formation of the protagonist's identity. The second chapter is dedicated to a theoretical framework which helps to establish what we can understand under the term modernist literature and it traces the basic features such a literature possesses. For this framework I adopted the study of postmodernism presented by the work of Linda Hutcheon, mostly her A Poetics of Postmodernism. A special attention is dedicated to the aspects of postmodernism that can be applied on the portrayal of space and the relationship existing between postmodernism and modernism. The third chapter outlines the basic concepts of space established by modernism. The major concepts dealt with in this thesis are: subjectivity, perspective, palimpsest and myth. As follows from the relationship between modernism and postmodernism, these concepts should be traceable also in postmodern fiction in a transformed state. According to Linda Hutcheon, the basic tool of this transformation is...

The aim is to describe and compare three book social networks and on the basis of established facts recommend them to different types of readers. The first three chapters discuss terms important to understand the subject of the thesis and relations between them, the opportunities provided to network users and their mutual comparison. The fourth chapter is the evaluation. It contains list of positive and negative characteristics of each network. On the basis of established facts, it recommends a particular network to specific group of users. Those users are divided into two groups in terms of knowledge of English language and the preferred type of literature.

Political philosophy of Lord Acton and its influence on the political thought of 20th century
Virdzek, Andrej ; Charvát, Jan (advisor) ; Šimsa, Martin (referee)
The Bachelor thesis presented here is concerned with the political philosophy of British historian Lord Acton and its influence on the political thought of 20th century. The aim of the thesis was to present Actons political thought in the environment of 19th century Britain and to show its influence on the political thought of 20th century. Actons political philosophy was concerned with many problems of Victorian age and his philosophy deals with many contemporary and historical issues. Because of this, I had to put emphasis only on some aspects of Actons political thought. Mainly on the theoretical fusion of Catholicism and Liberalism. The thesis is divided into three parts: In the first part I present Actons conception of liberty. Through the term of liberty I try to show the basis of his liberal philosophy. Every attempt to systematize Actons philosophy must start mainly with this term of liberty, because it was central in his thinking. Also his understanding of the word liberty is one of the things that distinguishes Acton from other thinkers, because it implicitly contains main premises of ethical teachings of the church. The second part talks mainly about Actons evaluation of the French revolution. I find this historical event very interesting and indespensable in the way that it presents to us how...

The robotization of US armed forces between the years 2000-2011 and its perspectives untill 2020
Kudrec, Martin ; Střítecký, Vít (advisor) ; Ludvík, Jan (referee)
This thesis analyzes the development of US armed forces robotization in the last decade as well as its perspectives in the current one. It analyzes the dynamics and main trends as well as quantitative and qualititive direction of this development. This analysis is based on and makes use of conceptual and notational framework of post-structural virtual theory of security proposed by Der Derian. The first part of the thesis provides theoretical and conceptual background and introduces the topic. It also deals with basic technological trends which influence the later update operationalization of the technologically-based theoretical framework and time framework of the thesis itself. The second part of the thesis addresses the very analysis of the US armed forces robotization based on the first part. The main aim of the thesis is to point out the development dynamics of the US armed forces robotization as a trend, as the thesis begins with the analyzing of the implementation of the first modern partially semi-autonomous robots in american equipment and ends with the analysis of plans for massive introduction of highly-autonomous, self-learning robotic systems and systems of systems with partial social, "ethical" and "moral" parameters. The last section of the thesis also addresses the basic security and...

Reform of Governmental Accounting as a Prerequisite of Economic Decisions Made by External Users of Municipality Financial Statements
Svoboda, Michal ; Mejzlík, Ladislav (advisor) ; Nováková, Štěpánka (referee) ; Steidlová, Jaromíra (referee)
This dissertation thesis analyzes gains of the governmental accounting reform in the Czech Republic in terms of increase in relevance, usability and accessibility of the economic data in the public sector of the Czech Republic, especially in municipalities. It identifies some risks that have arisen from this reform and offers some ways to eliminate them. The existence of the public sector itself is also explained as well as the existence of users of economic information of the public sector. It involves a comprehensive description of the reform of public sector financial reporting. A construction of a municipalities' financial health index is also included as a useful tool for increasing understandability and to become the decision making process of users (tax payers) at a higher level. This index is applied on 6 201 municipalities in the Czech Republic as of December 31, 2012.

Controlling
Igrényi, Réka ; Mikovcová, Hana (advisor) ; Boráros, Attila (referee)
The aim of this Master's thesis was to characterize the current cost ratio, pricing system and profitability of an agricultural firm, called P.G.TRADE, spol s r.o.. This company is engaged in the production and sale of compound feeds and premixes, resp. in storing different kinds of agricultural commodities. My specific aim was to determine whether the current pricing system and prices cover all the costs which incurred because of the processes of production and sale of finished products and that in doing so provides a satisfactory level of profitability, too. In the first, methodological part, I summarized all the necessary theoretical knowledge that we need to know about controlling. I paid particularly big attention to calculations and budgeting. In the application part I focused on the characteristics of the company itself and on the analysis of the costs and of the pricing system. In the next part I described in details the manufacturing processes of compound feeds and premixes in the company's main factory in Dvory nad Žitavou. The last part is devoted to the calculation of production costs and identifying weaknesses. In addition to the description of the conclusions I tried to propose some measures that could help in improving the company's profitability.

The image of the brand Burton
Dujavová, Beáta ; Horová, Olga (advisor) ; Černá, Jitka (referee)
The thesis is focused on the image of the brand Burton. The theoretical part describes the terms that relate to the issue, for example: what is the brand, features and functions of the brand, its identity and image. The practical part is focused on the analysis of brand perception of Burton on Czech and Slovak market. Since Burton focuses on young people, brand perception analysis is performed by using questionnaire survey among respondents aged 15-30. The aim of the thesis is to determine the brand perception, brand awareness, attitudes and associations with the brand.

Regression quantiles
Rusnák, Peter ; Kalina, Jan (advisor) ; Zvára, Karel (referee)
Title: Regression Quantiles Author: Peter Rusnák Department: Department of Probabilty and Mathematical Statistics Supervisor: RNDr. Jan Kalina, Ph.D.,Institute of Computer Science, AS CR Abstract: Quantile regression is a statistical method for specifying dependencies among variables, which was introduced by Koenker a Bassett in 1978. Since that time it has gone through a big development, when its theoretical properties have been under study, and it also has found many practical applications for data processing in variety of fields. While ordinary least-squares regression describes the relationship between one or more covariates X and the conditional mean of a response variable Y given X = x, quantile regression describes the relationship between X and the conditional quantiles of variable Y given X = x. This work contains the theory necessary for understanding relationship between standard and quantile regression and enabling include so received estimates to bigger group of M-estimates. The computation of coefficients for particular covariates is made by using Frisch-Newton algorithm belonging to methods of linear programming. The so-called regression ranks are also obtained as a by-product of this algorithm and we discuss their computational aspects and usage for hypothesis testing. In the second part, we...

A comparison of SH3 domains' tyrosine phosporylation influence on their binding capacity
Tatárová, Zuzana ; Novotný, Marian (advisor) ; Kuthan, Martin (referee)
Understanding the impact of protein phosphorylation is very important for the formation of dynamic biological processes such as gene silencing, cell growth, differentiation or apoptosis. This work deals with the phosphorylation of a protein-interaction module known as SH3 domain and the influence of phosphorylation on its ligand-binding capacity. SH3 domain is a part of a large number of enzymes directly involved in signal transduction as well as adapter proteins without enzymatic activity. Many studies have shown the importance of tyrosine sites within SH3 domain in regulatory mechanisms of proteins by using either mutants that cannot be phosphorylated, mutants mimicking the negative charges created by phosphorylation or by evidence of in vivo phosphorylation. The work also includes bioinformatic analysis, which further expand our knowledge of SH3 phosphorylated proteins and confirms that phosphorylation of the tyrosine sites is conserved among proteins containing the SH3 domain.

The role of fatty acids in apoptosis induction in pancreatic beta cells
Žigová, Ivana ; Libusová, Lenka (referee) ; Němcová, Vlasta (advisor)
Type 2 diabetes belongs to lifestyle diseases. To its development contributes also the decrease in functional  cell mass caused particularly by long-term action of increased blood levels of fatty acids and glucose. Experiments from recent years demonstrated that apoptosis of pancreatic  cells is induced especially by saturated fatty acids, in contrast to unsaturated fatty acids which do not exert significant cytotoxic effect and they are even able to inhibit the proapoptotic effect of saturated fatty acids. Despite intensive research, the mechanisms of fatty acid-induced apoptosis of pancreatic  cells are not convincingly explained. Understanding of the processes that lead to destruction of functional  cells could enable development of new therapies for type 2 diabetes treatment that would be targeted directly at one of the causes of this disease. The aim of this work is to summarize the recent knowledge about mechanisms by which fatty acids induce and regulate apoptosis of pancreatic  cells.
