The German minority and the Prague Spring 1968

The proposed thesis The German Minority and Prague Spring 1968 focuses on changes in the life of the German population in the territory of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s. The thesis deals with an influence of reviving process of the Prague Spring on the progress of status of the German minority in the Czechoslovakia, which was marginalized by that time. The author presented a detailed analysis of those events of year 1968, which related to the national minorities policy and led to reception of the constitutional law Nr. 144/1968 Sb., about the status of the national groups in the state. The law acknowledges, for the first time in the post-war history, the same rights for the German minority such as for the other national minorities living in the territory of the Czechoslovakia. The author studies activation of the members of the German minority for the purpose of formation of the cultural association. That was enabled just on the ground of the aforesaid constitutional law. The cultural association was founded and incorporated, among the other social organisations, into the National Front in spring 1969. Czech public art collections and the acquisition policy during the normalization era

The doctoral thesis Czech public art collections and the acquisition policy during the normalization era deals with the topic of domestic institutional operation in 1970s and 1980s, with specific focus on activities of galleries incorporated in the national, hierarchically organized network of art institutions. The research of these acquisition activities uncovers composition of the works of art acquired this way. It finds aspects in which individual institutions differed and detects the reasons behind these differences. Besides the acquisition process itself, the thesis also outlines the circumstances of establishment of the gallery network and summarizes its activities in more tolerant 1960s based on various material sources and oral history. The acquisition policy of galleries as such is analysed in the thesis covering the period from the beginning of the year 1970, when the resolution of the turning meeting of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia in April 1969 started to be fulfilled, until the end of the year 1989. Geographically, it is limited to the Czech territory. Censor of the Jára Cimrman theatre

The aim of whis paper is to determine to what extent was the Jara Cimrman's theater influenced by censorship. The first part opens up the issue of censorship in general. In the second part, the operation conditions of the theater are discussed, since its foundation in the late sixties, during the normalization era in the seventies and eighties and finally after the revolution at the beginning of the nineties. Finally, in the third part the paper attempts to describe the extent to which scenarios were subject to censorship and self-censorship and also answers the question whether the plays changes after the year 1989.
Czechoslovak Tour Guides and Their Role in Society During Normalization

The aim of this thesis, based on archive research combined with the oral history method, is to provide a complex overview of the Czechoslovak tourist guide profession during the so called normalisation period together with their role in the society. Several aspects of being a tourist guide with a special focus on incoming tourism and the city of Prague were subjected to a research with help of the theoretical framework defined in the first part of the thesis. Those are following. Motivation of the guides to carry out their profession, conditions guides had to meet, how they managed to cope with ideological side of their job and what benefits could they enjoy. At last, the transformation of tourist profession after Velvet revolution in 1989 is being discussed. Key words Tourist guide, tourism, the so called normalization period, oral history.
Czech feature Films of Horror Genre in Years 1968-1989

This bachelor work deals with the issue of the Czech horror movie in the normalization period when cinematography was significantly affected by censorship as a powerful tool of the establishment of the Czechoslovak communist state. The first chapter is examined horror as the term itself and what this concept represents, then origin of horror genre in the European and Czech backround until it becomes relatively stable and well-established genre of world cinema in early twentieth century. In the second chapter I describe a summary of historical development of institutions of Czech Cinematography and the final third chapter deals with individual films that are either horror movies or have strong horror characters. Part of this Chapter is short preview to period before years 1968-1989, and the following period after the year 1989 to these days. The work focuses on the fiction feature films however an integral part of this horror genre in the Czech background are animation movies as well that are described in a short subchapter.
Dana Jandová - The Graphic Art

The core part of the thesis is devoted to the lifework of a Czech artist Dana Jandová (1930-2014) with an emphasis on the graphic production, which came close to outweighing her activity in painting during the first decade of her career. By analyzing the themes that engaged Jandova's attention, the main aim of the author is to trace the development and the chronology of her stylistically varied oeuvre. In doing so, the intent of the work is to evaluate the artist's graphic production in its broader cultural and historical context. The thesis is accompanied by the summary catalogue of prints listed in thematic order.
The TV program of the Czechoslovak television from the year 1968 till April of 1970

The thesis titled "The TV program of the Czechoslovak television from the year 1968 till April of 1970" deals with the program offer from the period of so-called Prague Spring until the end of April 1970 when the second transmitter circuit was ready to start. I chose this time period because of frequent changes in politics and society, which was reflected in the media content, and thus in the TV content. This time segment is divided into four time periods in which I monitor the program offer of the TV. The first period is the period of Prague Spring, the second one is from September 1969 to April 1970 when Gustáv Husák became the first secretary of the ÚV KSČ, the third one is from May 1969 to August 1970 when Jan Zelenka became the director of Czechoslovak television (he was considered as the first normalization director) and the fourth period is from September 1969 to April 1970, when the second transmitter circuit was ready to start. The main aims of this thesis are detailed description and comparison of TV offers in these four periods. To achieve the objectives a comparative analysis is used. I analyze mostly weekly magazines Československá televize of the years 1968, 1969 and 1970. Czech artist in the years 1968-1989: Servant or a hero? Stanislav Kolibal and Josef Malejovsky Introduction of the bachelor thesis outlines the political developments in Czechoslovakia in 1948-1989. The main theme will capture the difference between official and unofficial scene Czech artistic life in the years 1968-1989, represented artists Stanislav Kolibal and Joseph Malejovsky. The content will compare the conditions in which they formed during the normalization throughout their lives, before the normalization period, compare the quality of their work, and compare the regime/anti-regime attitude to art and not least their political position not only in artistic expression. Text in addition to life artists will also focus on the development of groups in which worked, exhibitions and other artistic expressions factors.
The Pilsner Urquell's media image during Socialism in Czechoslovakia and the contemporary

The bachelor thesis looks into mediaimage of the Pilsner Urquell brand in the Czech land during various periods of time; namely in the current democratic Czech Republic in the contrast of the socialist era in years 1965-1989. In the first part the thesis explains the socialist era and the functioning of media in the past including the historic overview of the brand Pilsner Urquell. The second part charts the media interest of the brand Pilsner Urquell, which it examines through the brand-related content analysis in selected national and regional newspapers. In the conclusion the mediaimages which have been detected through the analysis are being compared.
