Interpreter-mediated interactions at film Festivals in the Czech Republic
Do výzkumu byly zahrnuty následující filmové festivaly: Mezinárodní filmový festival Karlovy Vary (2009), Festival dokumentárních filmů o lidských právech Jeden svět (2009, 2010, 2011), Festival krátkých filmů Praha (2011) a Mezinárodní filmový festival Praha-Febiofest (2011).

A cultural studies perspective on the evolution of visual and audiovisual representations of indigeneous cultures.
Porybná, Tereza ; Matějů, Martin (advisor) ; Soukup, Václav (referee) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
English Summary This dissertation primarily aims to synoptically place the theme of audiovisual representations of indigenous cultures within the context of cultural studies. With its interdisciplinary overlapping, the cultural studies approach is well suited to understanding the complex significance of visual representations of culture, which are both cultural artefacts and cultural interpretations and have an impact that is as artistic as it is scientific and political. The first part of the work describes the manner in which native cultures are audio-visually represented, especially in ethnographic photographs and films which emerged in the North American and European context. The mapping of "exotic others" intensified with the first modern overseas discoveries, first by means of exhibitions of living natives, illustrations and figurines, later through photographs, films and videos. These representations were significantly influenced by the socio-cultural conditions in which they arose. As late as the turn of the 20th century, there was a dominating conviction about the capability of photographs to present an objective record of reality. This technology was therefore used as an instrument for recording and classifying physical and cultural differences. The widespread acceptance of the doctrine of...

The Language of Subtitles in Translations from Norwegian
Hupáková, Petra ; Štajnerová, Petra (advisor) ; Vrbová, Jaroslava (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyse translations of audiovisual material from Norwegian to Czech. The theoretical part of the thesis discusses audiovisual translation in general, with special emphasis on subtitling. Strategies and concepts significant for the translation of subtitles are described, as well as different aspects of the quality of their translation. The empirical part analyses firstly the audiovisual material itself (the Headhunters movie) and consequently analyses the translation strategies and solutions used in the translation. The analysis is based on Lomheim's model. The translation of marked speech, culturally bound elements and humor is also discussed. Finally, the quality of translation is assessed. Key words: audiovisual translation, translation, subtitles, film, Norwegian, Czech

The Affected Flesh
Mendoza, Valerio ; BENDOVÁ, Helena (advisor) ; JANEČEK, Vít (referee)
Along the first decade of the 21st century, Romanian Cinema has achieved an elite status with the emerge of the so-called Romanian New Wave or New Romanian Cinema. This dissertation, aims to explore a little bit beyond the obvious aesthetics and dramatic features that have conferred awards and prestige to this film movement.Through three of its emblematic films, the use and representation of the human body will be analyzed as a powerful and effective storytelling tool, capable of rendering a coherent socio-political discourse at the same time it harmonically engages with a depurate visual style. The New Romanian Cinema deals with themes like identity and structures of power, and this thesis seeks to expose how those concepts are articulated through an specific depicting of the corporality -and its affections- of the main characters, highlighting the way directors use their craft in consonance with such representation instances

Kritický stav v tenkém Nb filmu
Youssef, A.E. ; Švindrych, Z. ; Hadač, J. ; Janů, Zdeněk
We present high resolution measurements of temperature dependence of low frequency ac magnetic susceptibility of superconducting Nb thin film in perpendicular time-varying periodic applied magnetic fields. We map this data, including harmonics, to the ac susceptibility calculated on basis of the complete analytical model of magnetization of thin superconducting disk in critical state. We find an excellent agreement between the measured and model data for temperatures up to 0.9997Tc

Advanced oxidation processes in environmental applications
OLŠAN, Pavel
The aim of this thesis is the study of application of the synergistic effects of various advanced oxidation processes (AOP) used for decomposition of chemical compounds resistant to biodegradation. The synergistic effect of photocatalytically active material and low temperature plasma were tested in my thesis. Model substances with photocatalytically active material were exposed to atmospheric plasma discharge (Gliding Arc) in order to improve generation of the active hydroxyl groups and oxidation processes. The first chapter of the theoretical part summarizes the knowledge of advanced oxidation processes, their principles and utilization. Next chapters are dedicated to basic summary of titanium dioxide and types of creating the thin films. The last part of theoretical chapter describes the types of plasma discharges. The experimental part describes the equipment for decomposition of chemical compounds resistant to biodegradation using AOP. Next chapter of the experimental part is dedicated to decomposition of organic dye AO7 and antibiotic Verapamil hydrochloride. The last chapter summarizes the results of the experiments.

Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and spectroscopy (STS) study of thin ceria films
Dvořák, Filip ; Mysliveček, Josef (advisor) ; Sobotík, Pavel (referee)
The contents of this study is the investigation of model catalyst CeO2/Cu(111) by STM. The aim of the work is identifying the growth mode of CeO2/Cu(111), studying the surface morphology dependence on substrate temperature during the sample preparation and determination of the atomic structure of the prepared layers. In terms of evolution of substrate temperature during the deposition samples has been prepared by three different methods - a constant temperature, variable temperature, and annealing the sample after deposition. The growth mode of the layers CeO2 has been determined as 3D growth. Samples with different morphology have been prepared by varying temperature of substrate during the preparation. With decreasing sample preparation temperature the roughness and defect density on surface have been increasing. The best epitaxy has been achieved by temperature gradient preparation. Samples which have been prepared with temperature above 400řC have been partially covered by layer CeO2(100). Measurements with hight resolution have been performed on the samples with low coverage. The first three monolayers of CeO2 have shown a moir pattern which has been caused by mismatch in lattice parameters. Atomic resolution has been achieved only in the first and the second monolayer CeO2. The absence of defects in...

Comparison of Meniscus (m-AgSAE), Film (MF-AgSAE) and Polished (p-AgSAE) Amalgam Electrodes
Fadrná, Renata
Silver solid amalgam electrode (AgSAE) is a suitable alternative to hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE). There exist three types of AgSAE varying in different surfaces: meniscus modified (m-AgSAE), film (MF-AgSAE) and polished (p-AgSAE) electrode, which does not contain any liquid mercury. This work presents the comparison of the process and time heftiness of the electrodes pre-treatment and their electrochemical properties.
