Thesis The Concepts of Motherhood and Fatherhood in Selected Novels of Petra Soukupová will be through the tools of feminist literary theory analyze three contemporary novels of the Czech authoress- Pod sněhem (2015), K moři (2007) and Zmizet (2011). The basic analytical category will be gender, but equally important will be the concepts of motherhood and fatherhood, which interweave all three novels. An integral part of the thesis will be the method of resistant reading, which is based on the theory by Judith Fetterley. Resistant reading is an alternative to uninstructed or unreflected reading, in which a reader uncritically accept the author's concept of the text. The core of the resistant reading is, therefore, a critical examination of literary works and the formation of new critical meanings to androcentrism. Important building stones of the thesis will be the work of literary theorist Pam Morris and work of the literary theorist Jonathan Cullera. Keywords: gender, motherhood, fatherhood, resistant reading

Bc. Kateřina Vlčková ABSTRACT: Petya parent - "socialist" fatherhood in Mladý svět magazine at the end of the 70th and beginning of the 80s of the 20th century The topic of my thesis is fatherhood in socialist Czechoslovakia in the late 70s and 80s of the 20th century. My primary source research is a section Péťa Parent, published from 1979 to 1982 in the Mladý svět magazine. The uniqueness of this column, I see in the fact that the author (Petr Hora-Hořejš) as the father advise to "public" readers regarding about education and child care. The theoretical part will focus on the concepts that are relevant to my research, such as the gender culture, fatherhood, masculinity, private and public sphere, motherhood, femininity, etc. Among the basic questions I'll ask include the following: How "socialist" father defends and publishes his paternal role, how he views care and education (his) child or what image of man-father Mladý svět magazine helps to create. With my work I try to contribute to a greater awareness of the history of fatherhood changes and involvement father in a family area, which was at that time primarily attributed to the women-mothers.

Lukáš, Vojtěch ; Vochocová, Lenka (advisor) ; Bednařík, Petr (referee)
The thesis is focused on the role of fathers represented in different lifestyle magazines for women. There were selected two kinds of magazine brands for women from different social-economic groups. The representative magazines from higher social-economic groups were chosen Elle, Harper's Bazaar, Cosmopolitan and Marianne. The representative magazines for women from lower social-economic groups were chosen Vlasta, Chvilka pro tebe, Žena a život and Překvapení. There were found only articles which show man as father, including description, in all selected magazines. The terms were generated according to the method of open coding from each article. Then they were merged into superior categories. The final categories served as a tool for describing representation of father, as he had been described in the individual magazines. From individual magazines we moved to the whole groups of magazines, which were designed for the same social-economic groups of women. Differences and similarities in the representations of fathers were found not only between the groups but also inside of the groups themselves. Nevertheless, our work has successfully shown that there were significant differences in the descriptions of the father in the magazines for different social-economic groups of women.

Labudová, Zuzana ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Kalnická, Zdeňka (referee)
This thesis discusses the concept of fatherhood in the novels of Milan Kundera. The first part of the analysis focuses on initiation rituals leadings to the construction of the masculine identity and the future quality fatherhood; this thesis discusses unwanted fatherhood, the phenomenon of the missing father and the ethical aspects of the (non)fatherhood and the theme of fatherhood as a coming to terms with the world. I concentrate on the basic models od fatherhood in Kundera's novels, which bear a resemblance to archetypes of father. But it is less a typical archetypes analysis than a interpretative analysis combined with a resisting reading. This thesis compares traditional concepts with concepts od modern (feminist) science and applies it to Kundera's characters.

Votíková, Henrieta ; Cimrmannová, Tereza (advisor) ; Nová, Monika (referee)
My bachelor thesis "Problematic situations during pregnancy and a baby's first year from the man's point of view." rises question of fatherhood during problematic situations in life. My discovery was, that most fathers, which filled my questionnaire, has considered their situation problematic, during the pregnancy and first year of baby's life. In futher research I tried to find out wheather or not, fathers would be willing to contact and try an advisory services and found out that they mostly wouldn't. Due to surveys lack of representativeness I conclude this result as higly suggestive which is opening doors for an other work rather then closing this matter as resolved.
