Diagnostics of electric discharges in liquids
Vašíček, Michal ; Mazánková, Věra (referee) ; Kozáková, Zdenka (advisor)
The main scope of this thesis is to measure electrical characteristics of a DC discharge in an electrolyte solution in order to evaluate individual discharge parameters (voltage, current, emitted light and sound). As a result of these parameters, a comparison between a diaphragm and capillary configuration has been realized using static and dynamic characteristics. Next part of this thesis is finding mutual differences and to set an approximate transition of individual configurations. For the study of the pin-hole discharge a polycarbonate reactor with total volume of 110 ml was used. It was divided by a changeable polyacetal insulating wall. The Shapal ceramic discs (thickness of 0.3–1.5 mm and diameter of the central pin-hole of 0.3 mm) were mounted in the centre of the insulating wall. This wall divided the reactor into two approximately equal spaces with one stainless steel electrode in each part. A DC high voltage source providing constant power supply up to 500 W was applied on the electrodes. The water solution of NaCl with initial conductivity of 570 S/cm was used as electrolyte. Time resolved electrical characteristics were recorded by a four channel oscilloscope Tektronix TDS 2024B. Measured parameters were as follows: voltage (by a HV probe Tektronix P6015A), current at ballast resistor of 5.13 , sound detected by a piezzo-microphone mounted under the reactor, and light emitted by the discharge was detected by an optical fiber in vicinity of the orifice. Measuring and processing of time resolved electrical characteristics present an accurate description of behavior of the diaphragm and capillary configuration. Voltage differences during the phase of bubble formation as well as around the breakdown point were discussed. This thesis contains a description of bubble cavitation and sets transition ratio between the diaphragm and capillary configuration approximately to l/d= 3 (where l is thickness of the wall and d is diameter of the pin-hole).

The material component is structural steel EN S235JRG1. Based on the literature study, several possible methods of production parts are described. After evaluation of the required accuracy, surface quality and yearly volume of production (100 000 units / year) the technology of fine blanking has been chosen. For the production of components will be used: Triple hydraulic press, HFA 3200plus, made by Feintool. Cutting tool has been designed with moving punch, and the tool contains standardized parts. The economic comparison has been made between the methods of precision cutting, trimming and unconventional classic laser technology.

IPO on Central European stock markets
Roženský, Vojtěch ; Havel, Jiří (advisor) ; Kameníček, Jiří (referee)
The thesis deals with recent Initial Public Offerings on Central European stock markets. It tries to explain, why there have been so many IPOs in Poland, whereas only a few in the Czech Republic and Hungary. It came to the conclusion, that the main reasons are as follows: (1) differences in equity culture, (2) the quality of commercial law and other legal issues, (3) high demand for domestic equities by Polish pension funds, (4) WSE's efficient marketing policy and market segmentation, (5) quantitative features of Polish market. The analysis of Polish IPOs discovered, that most of them are low-volume offerings, even compared to those in the Czech Republic. Also, the liquidity of these shares, turnover ratios and free float are quite low. The after-IPO performance is also unsatisfactory. This means, that the contribution of Polish IPOs to further capital market's development is not as strong as one could expect. Considering the PSE's and BSE's point of view, the situation is not alarming, however, some particular reasons of the lack of IPOs may be dangerous.

The Endogenous Supply of Money. Some Theoretical Implications
Mittner, Jiří ; Jílek, Josef (advisor) ; Chytil, Zdeněk (referee) ; Koderová, Jitka (referee) ; Sedláček, Petr (referee)
This thesis concentrates on the topic of the endogenous supply of money. It describes the basic shapes of the endogenous money theory and analyzes the causes of usual misunderstandings about the nature and behavior of money. We outline the important difference between asset-based and liability-based understanding of money and conclude that although both principles are theoretically applicable, the liability-based approach matches the major volume of real economic transactions. The liability-approach, which we conclude to be more appropriate way of understanding money, leads back to the topic of money endogeneity. We go over to the development of the ideas of endogenous supply of money as they appear over the second half of the 20th century and depict the major contributions in this area. We reference also the Czech academic research and comment the most relevant works. In the second part, the thesis concentrates on two theoretical areas analyzing the impacts of the money endogeneity. We point out at fundamental controversies in the concept of deposit multiplication concluding it to be an unrealistic process in a credit based economy. We conclude that the stock of money is not a directly controllable aggregate, especially not by means of the money base. The other area is the theory of capital and the foundation of the return on capital. We recall the Keynesian topic of the euthanasia of the rentier, develop the microeconomical foundation of the accumulation of capital and conclude that the zeroizing of the interest rate is feasible in a long-run. In the third part we go over to economic history and schools of economic thinking confronting them with the theory of endogenous supply of money. We concentrate on the notorious Smithian criticism of the mercantile doctrine finding the criticism not fully sustainable if we consider the varying nature of money over the medieval period. We analyze the available statistical data of medieval England concluding that the stock of monetary metals had a direct influence on the economic activity of England in the pre-Smithian era thus referencing to a strongly exogenous character of money, while there is no such relation afterwards, when money was becoming more endogenous. We put a next emphasis on the Austrian theory of money, which in many aspects is at variance with the endogenous money theory. We analyze both views on the money circulation and add new comments to the discussion on the foundation of the return on capital. We draw attention to the Mises' idea of Zirkulationskredit (circulation credit) concluding that this concept comes in fact to a common understanding of the money behavior along with the endogenous money approach. We conclude with finding that the theory of endogenous supply of money is a fundamental economical concept with impacts on almost all other branches of economics. This thesis thus contributes to a larger adoption of the endogenous money theory in the economical research on the theoretical as well as on the practical level. Concerning the practical area, the primary interest in adoption of this theory in contemporary macroeconomics is indeed concentrated on the suggestion for economic policy after the 2008 subprime crisis and we extend this thesis also by concluding notes in this issue.

Quantitative easing of Federal Reserve System and its effect on US economy
Táborský, František ; Mandel, Martin (advisor) ; Dvořák, Pavel (referee)
Presented thesis describes unconventional instrument of monetary policy quantitative easing of liquidity by increasing reserves of commercial banks held at the central bank accounts. This instrument was implemented during the greatest economic crisis since the 1930s by all the major monetary authorities to reduce real interest rate at the time of depleted standard monetary policy tools. Thesis deals with the transmission channels, historical and present experience and process of quantitative easing in the US. The potential threats associated with the massive release of liquidity to the market at a time of economic and financial crisis, the right strategy and the timing of exit and subsequent normalization of monetary policy are also discussed. Using correlation analysis relationships between the total volume of reserves and other financial indicators are identified. Most of the anticipated relationships has been confirmed, only their strength may not correspond with notion of central bankers when this instrument are implemented.

In search of an equivocal country
Axmannová, Eliška ; Voldřichová - Beránková, Eva (advisor) ; Jamek, Václav (referee)
The present diploma thesis called In search of an equivocal country is devoted to the life and work of Victor-Lévy Beaulieu, a French Canadian (Quebecois) novelist. Beaulieu is an exceptional figure on the contemporary literary scene, especially because of his large scale project that he has been patiently pursuing for almost fifty years - the quest for a Quebecois epic and a hero that could save the nation from its loss of cultural identity. It is the 1978 trilogy Monsieur Melville that stands at the heart of the thesis. The eight hundred pages mosaic divided in three volumes might be mistaken for a simple biography of Herman Melville or for a critical analysis of his work. Nevertheless, it's to the art of literature that the text is devoted. Abel, writer and Beaulieu's alter-ego, is the narrator, while Melville assumes the role of an acolyte. Together, they undertake a voyage across New England and neighbouring waters in order for Abel to find strength enough to write the ultimate Book for Quebec. The thesis is made up by three main parts. Following a short introductory chapter concerned with Beaulieu's life and work and with his relation to the American literature, the focus is put on formal aspects of the trilogy. The first part of the thesis is called Monsieur Melville and postmodern inspiration and...
