Friendship between heterosexual woman nad homosexual man and its effect on the social construction of identities
Brzobohatá, Dana ; Sloboda, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Čada, Karel (referee)
The thesis deals with a friendship between heterosexual woman and homosexual man, the way it is created, the way it is maintained and the threats it has to face. The thesis defines the meaning of essential theoretical concepts such as gender, sexuality, friendship or intimacy and trust. It is based on ten semi-structured interview with women who define the relationship with their gay friends as a close one. It reflects ways, how gender and sexual identities are negotiated in the friendship, puts friendship with a gay man into a broader context of friendly relationships in a heteronormative society and traditional binary oppositions of feminine and masculine. The thesis also looks into strategies of how the informants construct their own identity, identity of their gay friend ad where they place the boundaries of this relationship.
Gender and sexuality: Differences in sexual behavior based on gender typology according to S. Bem
Hlivka, Michal ; Šulová, Lenka (advisor) ; Weiss, Petr (referee)
Our concern in this work was a shared field of study between gender and sexuality in the search of underlying variables of sexual behavior. Basically our scope was to gather data to empirically support one of the theoretical approaches of sex differences in sexual behavior - essentialism, explaining behavior on the basis of biological sex or evolution; or social constructionism applying variables like gender or masculinity and feminity. For this purpose, 602 participants (166 men, 436 women), aged 18-45 yr., filled out the Bem Sex Role Inventory, and the Inventory of Sexual Behavior. Results in general support the social constructionism approaches, as in the most types of sexual behavior we found differences between gender groups, but not between the sexes. However, explanations provided by theories of essentialism should not be discarded, as there were also differences between sexes in few specific areas of human sexuality, namely masturbation, and overall sexual activity. Key words: gender, sexuality, masculinity, feminity, sexual behavior, sex differences
Organizations of men's movement in the Czech Republic (empirical profile and typology)
Lada, Stanislav ; Skovajsa, Marek (advisor) ; Muhič Dizdarevič, Selma (referee)
The central theme of this diploma thesis are male organizations and although some of them are already long decades old their presence is quite unknown phenomenon among majority of people, so much they stand behind their female counterparts. Therefore I decided to introduce male organizations and areas of their interest, the main goal of this diploma thesis is to create a typology of male organizations in the Czech Republic. The work issues from specification of the terms "masculinity" and "male organizations of civil society", carried out on the basis of publicized theoretical knowledge and my own experience. I begin with organizations of the so-called traditional type to pass on those that are considered to be the so-called new ones and their origin is closely associated with woman's emancipation caused by an expansion of feminism in the last decades of the past century. In connection with the existence of these new organizations it was discussed a concept of the so-called new masculinity for the first time. In the part of my work related to the goal's fulfillment I introduce all male organizations in the Czech Republic and the basis of analyze I create their typology. The analyzed material consists of texts of examined organizations and statements of their representatives. Great attention is also...
Gender schematization in self-description
Vranka, Marek ; Bahbouh, Radvan (advisor) ; Šulová, Lenka (referee)
This thesis critically analyzes some measures of masculinity and femininity. Special attention is paid primarily to a BSRI (Bem Sex-Role Inventory), which is the most widespread but completely invalid instrument for measuring gender identity. At the same time, there is presented an alternative approach to the topic of gender identity based on an application of statistical discriminant analysis technique to generally shared stereotypical evaluations of typical men and women. In empirical part, proposed approach is successfully tested in practice by creating an index of masculinity / femininity. Results of analyzes of relations between the determined gender identity and various other components of gender belief system (cognitive gender schematization, an explicit M / F and gender attitudes) suggest the validity of this approach. Between feminity (regardless of sex) and a measure of traditional gender attitudes has been found small but significant negative correlation (rs = -0.3). Keywords: masculinity, feminity, discriminant analysis, critique of BSRI
Beautiful Goddess: Contemporary Feminine Spirituality in the example of the female tantric groups
Veselá, Helena ; Nešpor, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Vojtíšek, Zdeněk (referee)
This thesis elaborates the results of the research I carried out wtihin the year 2009 in a paid course of female tantric initiation. The theme of the thesis was inspired by my previous interest in the Goddess movement. As this movement is not yet concretized in the Czech republic, I have chosen participating in a closed women's group which is very close to it due to a specific combination of religion, philosophy and psychology. My goal was to find out what form the women's spirituality has in the Czech environment and what kind of women are drawn to it. While the first part of the thesis deals with the universal characteristics of the current eclectic spirituality generally described as the New Age movement, the second part is devoted to the research itself. I come to the conclusion that the symbol of the Goddess, the key idea of the thesis, is not perceived only as a religious concept but also as a medium by means of which women define their needs and problems resulting from their femininity. By this particular case, I advert to the very psychotherapeutic dimension of women's spirituality. Keywords: New Age, tantra, The Goddess, body, spirituality, femininity, self-realization, strength, motherhood
