Comparison of political trials: Laszlo Rajk, Rudolf Slansky, and Władysław Gomułka

The bachelor dissertation is focused on selected political trials in Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Poland. The purpose of the dissertation is to provide complex view on the topic, structure and specifics of trials with László Rajko, Rudolf Slansky and Włladysław Gomułka. I will explore the context of the events based on comparison of the individual trials. I will also look for the differences which could have led to different development in Gomułka's trial. The goal is to find reasons, why Gomułka was not brought to justice and sentenced as other chosen representatives of communist parties were.

The time of the Prague Springof 1968 drawn out in the journal Literární listy This work looks into the profile of the journal Literární listy during the period of the Prague Spring of 1968; my exposition is preceded by a reflection of the political and socio- cultural atmosphere of these times. In the introduction, I give a brief overview of what was happening on the political and cultural scene, since the early loosening of internal relations in the late 1950's as well as through out the 1960's in the former Czechoslovakia (a so-called "melting period"), and an overall evaluation of the situation from a cultural point of view (including the relationship between writers and authorities, the emancipation of cultural journals from the official party and state policies, the development at the 4th congress of Svaz československých spisovatelů (Czechoslovak Writers' Union) and the voiced criticism of the regime. The following pages recall the main points of developments during the months of the Prague Spring of 1968. Croatia 1989-1990: between Yugoslavia and nationalism

This thesis deals with political developments in Croatia since the beginning of 1989 to the first multiparty elections in the spring of 1990. It analyzes the evolution of attitudes of Croatian communists to the Yugoslav crisis and activity of opposition groups during this period. The main emphasis is on the attitudes of Croatian ruling and alternative political elites against national and constitutional questions. Attention is paid to the development of so-called Serbian Question in Croatia. The thesis analyses the development of political pluralism in the territory of Croatia and the activities of the Croatian Democratic Union and Croatian Social Liberal Party. Jana Eliášová Abstract and key words This thesis deals with the influence the pupil's transition from elementary school to secondary school in the communist regime era, i.e. in 1948-1989. The methodology is based on the interviews provided by the method of oral history, archival records and professional literature. Furthermore, the work deals with the functioning of the education at the time of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, focusing on the elementary and secondary schools. The pivotal part of the work is based on the oral historical field research, especially from the personal experience of witnesses. For this work provided their memories eleven witnesses (10 women, 1 man), who, at their youthful age, experienced either a complete ban on studies at the high school, or their onset at the high school was complicated, due to the improper assessment from the school or the politically improper parentage. The thesis intends to reveal the ways influencing the pupil's studies or bans, the reasons and impacts of this experience on further lives of witnesses. Is the Czech communist party an anti-system party?

The aim of the thesis is to find out, if is the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia an anti-system party. The theoretical framework shall be based on works by authors who have dealt with the theory antisystemicity. First of all, the theory G. Sartori and G. Capoccia. From this is deduced operationalized definition of antisystemicity which is applied in the practical part. This definition is divided into two main points: delegitimizing effect and democracy. The thesis uses analytical method to reach its goal, primarily analyzes the intra-party documents. This thesis also analyzes documents describing the future look of the socialist society that the KSČM would like to achieve. Historiography of the Communist Party and the Working Class Movement and its Institutionalisation at the Faculty of Arts - Charles University in years 1953-1970

(in English): This work deals with the formation of party historiography in fifties and sixties of the twentieth century. It examines this issue in two ways. The first level is the institutionalization of party historiography at Faculty of Arts of Charles University. Establishment, development and abolition of the department of the History of the Communist party (History of Working class movement) is explored with focusing on key turning points in 1953 (establishment of the department), 1958 (restriction of teaching staff), 1964 (reorganization, merger and establishment of the department of the History of Working class movement) and 1970 (abolition of the department). Teaching staff is examined and attention is paid to the efforts to create typological profile of chair historians, who were part of emerging generation of party historians. The second level of the research is the participation of party historians in shaping and formulating new historical narratives, that provided legitimazing framework of communist project to social transformation. Attention is paid to possibilities and limits of party historiography in social and political context and its methodological base is also examined.
