Radical Islamism in Western Europe as possible reason for redefinition of liberal-democratic model
Pešek, Petr ; Mlejnek, Josef (advisor) ; Charvát, Jan (referee)
Diploma thesis "Radical Islamism in Western Europe as possible reason for redefinition of liberal-democratic model" deals with impacts of demonstrations of political Islam - especially in its extreme forms - on current form of liberal democracy. It deals with roots of the problem, especially with postwar influx of mainly Muslim immigrants to Western Europe and difficulties with their integration. It describes approaches of selected authors to the issue of radical Islamism and its impact on democratic values and rules in theoretical section. Main section of this thesis deals with analysis of specific controversial issues: disputes over wearing of Islamic headscarves, debates about building of mosques and attempted implementations of Islamic law sharia into legal systems of Western countries. Beside these selected issues are there briefly described other controversial issues too - e.g. reactions on publication of book Satanic Verses and cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammad, arguing about problematic topics taught in schools with Muslim pupils and involving Muslims in politics. I'm trying to outline future course of collisions between radical Islamism and principles of Western liberal democracy in the final section of my thesis, citing forecasts by some known experts.

Algorithms for solving the Sokoban game
Galajda, Martin ; Petříček, Martin (referee) ; Surynek, Pavel (advisor)
The task of this work is to bring a complete guide for solving a SOKOBAN game problem. The work follow subsequently issues of studies of problem complexity, its definition, selection of appropriate algorithms, as well as their implementation and testing. The study demonstratethe manifest, that problem belongs to a NP-hard set of problems as well as PSPACE-complete set of problems. Fundamental and also advanced techniques of state space searching are studied as means for solving defined problem, memory and time characteristics of these techniques are presented and derived. In order to gain statistical information about efficiency of demonstrated algorithms and heuristics, an aplication SokobanSolver was built. This program can solve many SOKOBAN problems automatically. We described principles of functional parts and main data structures of this program and also we discuss program SokobanGenerator, aplication that was built to supply SokobanSolver with many random built SOKOBAN problems. Techniques explained are tested by lately named programs, and results are discussed at the very end of the paper.

Psychotherapeutic care for adolescents failing in difficult situations.
Bauer, Jiří ; Gillernová, Ilona (advisor) ; Štětovská, Iva (referee) ; Dobrovská, Dana (referee)
The central motive of this dissertation thesis was to find an effective method of helping young people approaching adulthood manage difficult situations - which they were unable to deal with - through psychotherapeutic care. Their failure was most often demonstrated by their unsatisfactory results in school performance or duties given at training workplaces. Although the causes were different, the outcome was the same for all of them: a proposal to suspend them from their secondary school or their training college. In theoretical solutions as well as in research and its applications it seemed useful to refer to many influences and their combinations that enter the life of each individual. Therefore it is very difficult, even impossible to exactly identify the causes of a beginning of a crisis of a maturing adolescent. All involved examined persons were nevertheless faced with a mirror of their own testimonies through the results of psycho-diagnostical tests, artefacts and discussions with their parents, teachers, vocational trainers and especially with themselves. And together with them, we were searching for a way out from their crisis. The theoretical solutions explain the key concepts and their relations directly to psychological research and its application into the therapeutic care. They describe a...

Cultural diversity from the culturological perspective
Bártík, Robert ; Soukup, Václav (referee) ; Soukup, Martin (advisor)
The presented study focuses on themes related to the problem of cultural diversity and plurality, with the methodological usage of hermeneutics as a theory of understanding. The fact that every culture that developed over the course of history lives in the horizon of a completely specific world (a horizon and a context of appearance) implies the question of whether different cultures can mutually understand each other (which is related to the opportunities for mutual translatability of each other's languages and the structures) as well as questions related to the universality of a certain understanding of reality and it's dominant position as a worldview, which is spontaneously demanded by the scientific/technical paradigm of the Euro-Atlantic civilizational range. Today, this problem is reflected from various different positions. From the perspective of ecological crisis, we find it in conceptions of lasting maintainability; from perspective of philosophical reflection, we find it in the project of intercultural philosophy. For a concrete "demonstration" of cultural diversity and plurality, we opted to use the philosophical/religious system of Taoism because we thought that it was "different" enough to be a representative perspective for this study.

Puritans and Indians - cultural conflict in the 17th century New England
Kašpárek, Jakub ; Procházka, Martin (referee) ; Robbins, David Lee (advisor)
As the first Anglo-Indian war in colonial New England, the Pequot War has proven to be the subject of extensive scholarly discussion and, what is more, controversy. If considered from a broader perspective, it is only recently that various reactions against racial intolerance in the U.S. triggered tendencies that have been gradually building up their share in renegotiations of the numerous misleading assumptions and stereotypes about the Indian-Puritan relations held over many generations. Such treatment of historical material holds true not only for the apologists, but revisionist scholars in particular and quite interestingly, however, even today both approaches still manifest a certain amount of need for negotiating the middle ground. Such statements are primarily based on, and to quote from many, the demonstrated extensive vilification of Indians and victimization of the Puritans, including the frequent dismissal of the Puritan aggressive attempts at renegotiations of indigenous cultural identities on part of the apologists. As for some of the revisionist approaches, their treatment of this historical material may also be considered flawed, based on their hesitance to examine in a more profound manner the Puritan mindset, which had been so heavily driving their actions, at the expense of explaining the...

Internet Gambling in the USA - regulation and prohibition
Kozák, Jakub ; Šíma, Josef (advisor) ; Ždímal, Martin (referee)
This diploma thesis is focused on comparison of two political approaches to a quite new e-commerce industry -- internet gambling. These approaches are prohibition on the one hand and regulation, free market environment, on the other hand. Internet gambling became the worldwide phenomenon. However, American legislators had passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act 2006 in 2006 which outlawed an internet gambling. The declared purpose of this Act is protection of families against ill effects, such money laundering, underage gambling and problem gambling on society. This paper argues that regulation and free market environment established in Great Britain is much more effective way how to solve these key issues. There is demonstrated in the paper that free market stands for economically preferable option and contains better instruments for solving the issues at the same time.

Study of retention behaviour of neopterine in HILIC chromatographic system with different stationary phases
Matula, Aleš ; Nováková, Lucie (advisor) ; Šatínský, Dalibor (referee)
TITLE: The study of neopterin retention characteristics in HILIC chromatography system with different types of stacionary phases SUMMARY: This graduation thesis was dealing with the development of an analytical method for the identification and quantification of biologically active substances biopterin, neopterin and 7,8-dihydroneopterin by hydrophilic liquid interaction chromatography (HILIC) connected to fluorescence detection. Neopterin represents an important and useful parameter for monitoring of the immune system activation, that accompanies different infectious and autoimmune diseases. Increased level of neopterin concentration can be observed in several types of malignant tumors. Recently the coherency between neopterin, 7,8-dihydroneopterin and intracelular oxidative stress and apoptosis of the cells has been demonstrated. Totally reduced form of biopterin serves as a cofactor of some enzymes in human organism. HILIC is an option of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Three chromatographic columns (LUNA HILIC, OBELISK R, OBELISK N) were tested at different chromatografic conditions. Mobile phase consisted of mixture of aqueous component (ammonium acetate buffer, acetic acid, water) and water miscible organic component (acetonitrile). The mixture of acetonitrile and 100mM ammonium acetate...
