Political tabloid press on examples of titles "Na vlastní oči Praha 10" and "Na vlastní oči"
Komrska, Jiří ; Osvaldová, Barbora (advisor) ; Štoll, Martin (referee)
The main goal of this diploma thesis was to find patterns on the pages of Na vlastní oči (With One's Own Eyes) title that define gutter press in its specific form of political tabloid. The analysis was concerned with the time period from 2016 to 2019 during which the said title was published in total of four waves each of which related to the relevant pre-election campaign. The Na vlastní oči title was initially published anonymously and only later Jan Čížek, publisher of the regional town-hall newspaper and a Freedom and Direct Democracy Party (SPD) candidate, claimed to be the publisher. SPD subsequently became the final sponsor of the newspaper. In the first wave of publishing activity, the authors of the title focused on a disparaging campaign against the then-candidate for the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Parliament and, in a broader context, against the whole opposition within the City Council of the Prague 10 City Ward. In its later publications, the newspaper dealt mostly with topics aimed at spreading fear of an unspecified danger associated with the refugee crisis and concerns about the unknown in the form of the Islamic Religion which was always associated with the threat of terrorism. In the context of its election programme, SPD also communicated groundless criticism...
REVITALIZATION OF THE FORMER INDUSTRIAL AREA IN PRAGUE, VYSOČANY
Černeyová, Natália ; Zemánek, Václav (referee) ; Zemánková, Helena (advisor)
The topic of the diploma’s thesis is a proposal of revitalization of the former industrial area in Prague, Vysočany. The neighborhood that was in the past in the suburbs of Prague near the railway is now barely used or not used for the benefit of the city district and its users. The proposal is based on creating an active environment that would correspond to the modern running of the city and serve the needs of its inhabitants. The urban-architectural study respects the current trends of the locality and ongoing development projects, which will significantly influence the appearance and functioning of Vysočany district. In particular, the given locality is characterized by the lack of urban life, as it is mainly the industrial district, as well as the center itself, which would correspond to a major urban district. An important part of the whole concept was the intervention of the area with the new city boulevard Kolbenova. The aim of the thesis is a proposal that would be based on the needs of Prague as a metropolitan city, therefore the proposal respects the currently discussed Metropolitan Plan, which allows high-rise development in the given locality. The study seeks to create sufficient housing capacity and opportunities that represent the potential for the entire city district and can respond to the demand of the population for quality living in the city according to current standards relating to the capital city of Prague.
Obesity and fat shaming in media on the example Patricie Solaříková and Super.cz
Bečvářová, Lucie ; Krobová, Tereza (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
The adoration of thinness and the cult of perfect body has been an issue for many decades; with substantial contributions of the mass media and the press. As consequence, the phenomena of fat-shaming and fat-glorification become prominent, either by denouncing obesity and humiliating the overweight, or by worshipping the obese and elevating their status above the slender people. The theoretical part of the thesis aims to introduce the first phenomenon, which condemns the corpulent population disregarding their state of health and other aspects of life, capable of causing an unfounded weight increase, and to depict the approach of the media (tabloids in particular) towards the excess weight. The practical part of the thesis is concerned with analysing selected articles of a tabloid journal Super.cz, beginning with characterising its content, target audience and focus, and strives to reveal specific instances of fat-shaming on articles regarding the fluctuating weight of actress Patricie Solaříková between years 2013 and 2017. The practical part opens with presentation of the actress and apart from analysing the approach of Super.cz in articles regarding the actress' weight, the thesis deals with the frequency of such articles and the proportion of the aforementioned articles to columns concerned...

Blesk - The History and Development of the Most Read Daily Newspaper in the Czech Republic
Dernerová, Žaneta ; Halada, Jan (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
This master's thesis aims at the development of the most successful Czech tabloid journal Blesk. It starts with the comparison of Czech and foreign tabloids. Subsequently, it captures the history of Czechoslovakian and Czech tabloids from the First Republic until the present day. This thesis also deals with the journals that unsuccessfully tried to compete with the journal Blesk. Nowadays, the only remaining tabloid journal is Aha!, nevertheless it is owned by the same publishing company as the journal Blesk. Further, the thesis pays attention to the main personalities who helped to shape the form of the journal. It inquires into the development of the graphical shape of the front pages and it tries to interpret their symbolical message, both by the means of qualitative analyses. Alongside that, it deals with the editors and their influence on the development of the journal, its visual form, and the choice of topics on the front pages. The journal Blesk also includes advertisements, and this thesis focuses on that too.
Czech tabloid photography and the privacy law
Kabátová, Šárka ; Lábová, Alena (advisor) ; Topinková, Martina (referee)
This thesis represents an analysis of the Czech tabloid photography in its most extreme form in relation to the legal framework of the Czech Republic. It covers legal aspects of the tabloid photography both in its theory as well as practice. This thesis therefore includes not only detailed analysis of the legal boundaries but also five case studies. These case studies should illustrate Czech tabloid photography in its most extreme form and bring to attention the ethically problematic decisions of the tabloid press to publish photos of naked celebrities. The case studies of three former top politicians - Mirek Topolanek, Petra Buzkova and Miroslav Macek - and actress Jirina Bohdalova as well as singer Iveta Bartosova would lead one to the conclusion that Czech tabloid photojournalism has had serious problems operating within the ethical boundaries. Those have been broken despite the law as well as the professional code of conduct. The findings indicate the shift in understanding of what is and is not ethical and that this is facilitated by increasing tabloid market share. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Comparism of the Media Portrayal of the Karel Svoboda's death in Mladá fronta DNES and Blesk
Dernerová, Žaneta ; Halada, Jan (advisor) ; Osvaldová, Barbora (referee)
This paper focuses on the medial image of the Czech pop music composer Karel Svoboda's death. It aims at comparing how this event was reported the so-called serious-minded newspapers and tabloids and finding out if the reporting was compatible with the newspapers' profile. The daily Mlada Fronta DNES was chosen as the representative of a serious-minded newspaper, and Blesk as the representative of tabloids. The composer's suicide filled pages of the newspapers weeks after his death. Karel Svoboda committed suicide in January 2007, thus the whole year is analysed. However, the period of three months after Svoboda's death is analysed in the most detail. Due to an intense medial attention, high popularity of Karel Svoboda, and the case of stolen pictures from the suicide scene, media are referring about the event to-date. Event though the period from the early 2008 to the present day (March 31st, 2014) is not particularly important, is also paid attention, albeit marginally. Only print versions of the newspapers are analysed (not internet versions.) Quantitative approach deals with the frequency of reporting of Karel Svoboda's death, qualitative approach pays attention to using language means, particular expressions, and mutual difference of the newspapers. Furthermore, rate of relevance, way of reporting, and...

Blažek, Jiří ; Čeněk, David (advisor) ; Hanáková, Petra (referee)
The following bachelor thesis focuses on film exploitation as a tabloid phenomenon; particularly examines the tabloid tendencies of productions of Vít Olmer in the years after the Velvet Revolution between 1990 and 1995 in Czech cinema. His work reflects the new creative democratic circumstances that arose after November 1989. Olmer effectively used these circumstances to his benefit and as a result he became one of the most productive personalities of the mid-90s. The first part of the thesis consists of a mapping of the status of exploitation film in foreign academia. Based on Pierre Bourdieu's concept, it explores how the logic of "pure taste" influenced the approach to the "tawdry cinema", its research, and last but not least, an attitudes of researchers of (exploitation in) cinema themselves. It then provides an overall view on allied difficulties accompanying exploitation film; the scattered identity unfounded by virtually no theoretical basis remains an essential problem of the analyses of exploitation cinema in the context of film studies. The second part of the thesis expounds a rudimentary nature of the exploitation phenomenon with the contribution of sensationalism, theoretical model used mainly in a media studies. The part proves close relation between the sensationalism, a paradigm...
