Approaches to the prevention and the management of work-related stress in organizations in the Czech Republic and Nordic countries

The Master's thesis deals with work-related stress in its context; preventing and managing it; and compares approaches to preventing and managing work-related stress in the Czech Republic and the Nordic countries. Work-related stress may have a negative impact on physical and mental health or overall quality of life of an individual and it may bring negative implications for an organization. The thesis follows theoretical basis for work- related stress, its factors and consequences from the point of view of an individual as well as an organization. The attention is concentrated on the approaches to preventing and managing work-related stress in organizations in regard to the nature of a work activity, the management level or particular activities carried out by human resources management. It is focusing on stress management precautions taken on the European and national level and describes the process conducted during the development of a programme for preventing and managing work-related stress and its effectivity evaluation. Working stress of Czech employees and its relation to job status and personal life

This paper explores issues of the work stress of Czech employees using the data from Quality of working life survey conducted in Sociological institute of Czech Academy of science in 2014. However work stress is generally seen as a serious problem, employers in the Czech Republic do not take it enough into account yet. The aim of this paper is to define groups of employees which are the most endangered by work stress, sources of stress (stressors) and explore the relationship between work stress and life satisfaction with special focus on employee status. As a theoretical background, we use the theory of spillover (transmission between life spheres), theories of high status stress and low status stress and balance models of work stress (namely Job demands-control model and Effort- reward imbalance model). Apart of work demands, overtime work, low social support and negative phenomenon as well as monotonous and unattractive job content and poor job security were identified as important stressors. As the most endangered group were identified those who have lower employee status, high level of stress and also lower satisfaction in all studied aspects of life. Occupational stress and coping strategies

The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis focuses on the general concept of stress and its biological and psychological aspects. There are defined the specific signs of occupational stress, operating stressors and other context. Attention is also paid to coping strategies; the thesis presents some well-known theories of coping and their description. The thesis also deals with methods of research in the field of stress and coping strategies and it also presents basic information about the target group of assistants, who play an important role in the practical part of the thesis. The practical part of the thesis consists of case studies of workers on assistant positions. The case studies investigate the nature of their work and following stressors, subjective assessment of work-related stress and preference of coping strategies. In the final discussion, there are defined common features identified in case studies and they are confronted with theoretical background. Stress Management in Conference Interpreting

The present thesis focuses on stress management in conference interpreting. It explains the biological purpose of stress, stressors - aspects inducing a stress reaction, and the physiological, behavioral, emotional and cognitive symptoms and effects. Special attention is paid to occupational stress, namely in relation to interpreting, to the requirements on an interpreter's personality, and to stressors interpreters generally face. The thesis presents a detailed dscription of stress management- and coping styles, strategies and techniques. The empirical part explores the positive and negative expectations of interpreting students in the earliest stage of their studies in terms of stress, and aims at discovering whether students of interpreting as well as professional interpreters consider interpreting a stressful activity, whether they feel that stress management- and coping strategies and techniques should constitute an integral part of interpreter training, and whether this is or is not the case. The research concerned university institutes and departments of selected universities in the Czech Republic and abroad. The thesis deals with load, stress and related questions of the working life. Work-related stress brings numerous difficulties not only to affected individuals, but as a result also to organizations. The thesis follows symptoms, impacts, somatic and mental aspects of stress, its types and also types of stressors, which cause this problem. It is concentrated on workload as a specific area of work-related stress, individual resistance to the load, factors of workload and work-related stress and also on coping with problematic situations. The specific topic related to the stress is burnout syndrome. The thesis describes its formation and development, its causes, symptoms in three main levels - mental, physical and level of social relations and then influence of important factors such as personality and work conditions. It is also focused on professions endangered by burnout syndrome and its prevention. The prevention of pathological occurence of burnout syndrome (an example of employer)

This bachelor thesis deals with the issue of burnout syndrome which is currently a very discuss frequent problem. The rate of working stress will be investigated in selected groups of staff in company COOP družstvo HB. The purpose of my thesis is to compare which group of staff is threatened by burnout syndrome the most. The work is focused on the economical aspects which are reflected particularly in human capital. There will be applied the quantitative research, concretely questionaire research. Based on the results of questionaire research will be applied analytical method of the job evaluation, which is one of the main issues of human resources management. This application will be also recommendation for prevention for the company.
