School adjustment of children with ADHD
KARBÁČOVÁ, Marika
Bachelor thesis deals with school adjustment, children with ADHD. Experts estimate that in the Czech Republic is over twenty thousand children with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). In our population it affects 6 9 % of children, so it is important to pursue this issue. The theoretical part is divided into two large areas. The first area deals with the definition of ADHD syndrome. There are individual characteristics with specific symptoms and also is there described adjusting nature of these children. Another subchapter of the thesis briefly deals with the historical perspective on the development of ADHD, explains the causes and incidence in the population of this syndrome. The last subchapter presents the diagnosis of ADHD syndrome. The second big area deals with adaptation, where is also explained a school adjustment. There is analysed each development of the adjustment and followed by a specific course of adjustment at an elementary school. The empirical part focuses on finding and describing the nature of the adjustment of children with ADHD, eventually it also describes curiosity or deficits in school adjustment compared with healthy children, without ADHD syndrome. To confirm my hypothesis in this bachelor thesis is used quantitative research. Anonymous and voluntary questionnaire was designed for kids from ordinary primary schools. A total of 50 questionnaires are processed. The questions in the research study are divided into five regions - the general area, the area of hyperactivity, attention, impulsivity and school environment. The results showed that children with ADHD showed during the school adjustment deficits in these five areas, compared with children of normal primary schools without the disorder. Bachelor thesis should help to improve work with children affected by ADHD and raise awareness about the importance and relevance of the topic among educators, parents and interested members of the public.
