Specifics of Project Team Managing and Development in IS/ICT
Hamza, Jan ; Pavlica, Karel (advisor) ; Bláha, Jiří (referee) ; Pour, Jan (referee)
Project management is now the basis for the activities of most companies, whether local or multinational, regardless of the sector in which they operate. Construction industry can be considered as a birthplace of project management, due to the need to monitor the continuity of work. With the adoption of project management by other sectors--primarily engaged in information systems and telecommunications technologies--project management is given a new direction. If we add to this trend the current focus on the development and care of human resources (the impact of soft skills on the work of managers), we get two conflicting tendencies: on the one hand there is a significant development of project methodologies and techniques oriented mainly to the administration of the entire process of project management (planning, managing and reporting); on the other hand there are training methods that focus on the development of soft skills (teamwork, creativity, communication skills or leadership skills). But what is lacking is the integration of both approaches. The main objective of this doctoral thesis, Specifics of Project Team Managing and Development in IS/ICT, is to determine whether project teams behave as real teams, as defined by current theories, or whether they behave as specific working groups. The sub-objectives are 1) to identify the key skills that project managers need for leading teams, 2) identify the key soft skills of project team members which need to work effectively in a team, and 3) find out how project teams work with knowledge. The research included in this work is aimed at mapping the position of the project manager as a leader of the project team with an emphasis on the issue of soft skills in the project management of IS/ICT companies. Three independent data sources enable us to understand the situation in several existing project teams from different perspectives (project manager, team member and head of the project management office), with an emphasis on project manager as a leader of the team. The research was performed in companies engaged in mobile communications in the Czech Republic (GSM service providers) and their suppliers. The total research involved 224 respondents. This data was then generalized and applied to companies operating in the field of IS/ICT in the Czech Republic. The conclusion summarizes the benefits for the development of science (in the specific field of project management as well as in management in general) for business and for education.

Zahradníková, Lucie ; Maryška, Miloš (advisor) ; Exnarová, Anna (referee)
This work focuses on the area of IS/ICT costs in business sphere. The main goal is to provide a summary of matters of this area to people who haven't been concerned with this area yet. This work is divided to two parts -- theoretical and practical. Theoretical part of this work contains definitions and clarifications of the most important terms which are used in IS/ICT cost management. The terms are costs, accounting and IS/ICT. This part also contains several theories of costs classification including examples of which costs belong to specific group. The last chapter of theoretical part contains a cost analysis. Many times it's not enough to know which costs a company has, but how to quantify them. This part contains only the Total Cost of Ownership method (TCO). Because following practical part shows the comparison of TCO and TBO (Total Benefits of Ownership), there is also definition of this term in the theoretical part. Practical part shows calculate TCO and TBO which are connected with an installation new information system. The following part contains comparison of total cost of ownership and total benefits of ownership. By using this comparison can companies figure out at what time the benefits will outweigh the costs.

Basel II and IS/ICT
Kovář, Petr ; Bruckner, Tomáš (advisor) ; Fleischmann, Martin (referee)
The Basel II Framework ensures banks are well capitalized. It is designed to be more risk sensitive than the old Basel Capital Accord and considers operational risk, such as "the risk of loss resulting from inadequate or failed internal procesess, people and systems or from external events." Banks are forced to calculate the regulatory capital charge for operational risk and want to optimize it. IT is a substantial part of operational risk and therefore is a part of the regulatory capital charge for operational risk. The Basel Committee requires banks to implement a framework to manage operational risk. One objective of this study is to provide description of this framework, IT aspects of operational risk and IT governance under Basel II, based on available sources of information. Another objective is to design processes for assessing and managing IT and operational risks under Basel II. Last but not least objective of this study is to disclose recent credit risk data and indicators for consolidated sector and large banks in the Czech republic. The amount of the regulatory capital charge for operational risk is an important part of the overall capital charge. This work increases IT practitioner's understanding of such topics as assessing and managing operational risk under Basel II.
Information strategy draft for Junák CZ
Pelcl, Ladislav ; Chlapek, Dušan (advisor) ; Řepa, Václav (referee)
The main goal of the diploma thesis is creating a draft of an information strategy for Junák -- Association Scouts and Guides CZ. The organization is a Czech NGO, focused on education of children and young people. For both these main activities and also administrative, economical and other areas, it uses IS/ICT resources. Mainly due to a lack of coordination in their past development, in many fields these don't allow the organization to work efficiently and use the current potential of IS/ICT. This leads to diminishing of the organization's competitiveness. The thesis tries to bring such a strategy, that the organization could use even in the case it needs to be modified accordingly to its priorities. The thesis tries to reach the creation of the draft through a number of steps. Following the brief description of the organization, the thesis introduces basic terms and attitudes towards the IS/ICT governance. In order to identify both weaknesses and future potential, it thoroughly describes and analyzes the current IS/ICT projects currently in use in the organization. With partial use of the "potential of improvement" method, it states reasonable degree of efficiency improvement in various key activities. Great amount of focus is being spent on proposals of new projects, that could lead the organization to efficiency or raising its competitiveness through making the most of current trends in IS/ICT. Major projects are put together out of the proposals as well as the method of their evaluation in relation to the strategic priorities of the organization. Finally, the information strategy is defined. Author's main contribution is in his capability to point out new solutions which could help to improve non-optimal processes in a way, that makes use of current potential of IS/ICT. Using his experience from both the organization itself and the IS/ICT field, he tries to create modern, tailor-made information strategy.
