The transformation of Czechoslovak regional daily press: The case of Jihočeská pravda journal

This bachelor thesis will be focused on the process of transformation in Czechoslovakia at the beginning of the 90's of the 20th century. Specifically the author will researchs the process of transformation of regional daily press. The press (as well as another mass media) changed fundamentally in consequence of the change of political system in the late nineties. While during the most of the second half of the 20th century the regional press had been the institutions owned and controlled from the state, during the nineties passed to private property. This transformation will be described on the example of Southbohemian daily press - "Jihočeská pravda". At first the author dedicates to the form and characteristic of the newspaper before the year 1989 (more precisely between 1985-1989), including the brief view on the newspaper at the age of censorship and the supervision of their publisher - The Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. Then, this work describes the way of imaging of "the Velvet Revolution" in the newspaper and the first steps of the change of the publisher (November-December 1989). Transformation of Self-portrait in Photography of Czech Intermedia Artists in the 1990s

This Bachelor Thesis explores an example of four Czech artists (Milena Dopitová, Míla Preslová, Jiří Surůvka, Václav Stratil) who have also worked on the field of self-portrait. It shows how the photographic medium was used to deal with topics of identity, intimacy and social issues in the 1990s. The Thesis also maps mixing of photography with other artistic means, for example performance or instalation, in work of these artists.
American - Russian Cooperation in the North Pacific Region

The topic of this Bachelor thesis is the American-Russian cooperation in the Northern Pacific area after the disintegration of the Soviet Union. The Pacific areas of both countries, Russian Far East and the west coast of the United States, are close to each other when it comes to geographic location, distance from the political center, history, culture and economy. Russian Far East has at its disposal non-renewable resources, the United States have the necessary capital and technologies for its development. As opposed to the Atlantic dimension of their mutual relations, in the Asian-Pacific region they have similar interests in the qustions of security. Their cooperation in this area thus offers both great potential and a number of pitfalls. This BA thesis analyses the possibilities, development and tendencies of their cooperation, at the background of the American_russian relations of the last twenty years. It focuses on security, ecological and economic aspects of mutual cooperation on both the governmental and regional level. Czech postmodern architecture of banking houses and savings after 1989 until the end of the 20.century

This study deals with teh architecture of banks and savings banks in the nineties of the twentieth century in the Czech Republic as a certain phenomenon associated with cultural change and social situation in the Czech architectural scene since 1989. The need for new bank buildings brought into our urban and small-town environment specific architectural forms associated with the influence of lingering postmodernism. The first part attempts to characterize the general change on the Czech architectural scene in the nineties and to elucidate these stylish yet unidentified, often individually artistically conceived structure of bank buildings as a part of it. At the same time take into account the question of to what extent we can speak about postmodern architecture in the Czech culture environment and points out the ethical problem related to this architecture style. The second part tries to characterize the general architecture and typologically distinguish of banks and savings banks in the accompanying catalog. Finally, the work attempts to explain why the phenomenon of architecture of banks and savings is associated with the ethical problem, which reffers to such buildings as the representative of architectural bad taste.

The bachelor thesis "Radost Agency and Magazine Post" deals with the activity of student agency Radost (which means joy, pleasure in Czech) and picture magazine Post which was published by the agency. The bachelor thesis outlines historical context at the turn of the 1980s and the 1990s and describes how the political and social change influenced the activities of the agency. The thesis deals with the beginning of agency at Film and TV School of Aca- demy of Performing Arts in Prague and its transformation into professional organizati- on, mentions the fields of activity (photography, music and publishing) and its two most important exhibitions. The thesis defines the agency as the period phenomenon re- flecting the social changes and the open platform for people coming up with the new approach for various culture projects. The czech contemporary dance in the nineteen nineties

The main goal of this thesis is to clarify the situation of the Czech contemporary dance platform in the nineteen-nineties and its transformation, on the basis of four case studies of concrete personalities and their dance works: Eva Černá a Karel Vaněk (Little blue nothing), Lenka Flory (..and where is Mary?), Jan Kodet (Jade) and Petr Tyc (The Fall of The House of Usher). The emphasis is put on catching the different qualities of movement, searching for the origins of their source of inspiration. In order to understand the deeper context of this period it was necessary to briefly describe the development of "scénický" ("scenic") dance before 1989. This matter is put into the larger context of the change in aesthetics of the corporeality since the nineteen-sixties and the formation of the concept of contemporary dance with delimitation of its content.
THE IMAGE OF DISSIDENT IN CZECH DOCUMENTARY FILM AFTER 1989

The work is attempting to describe the mental image of a dissident, the way it was most oftenly interpreted in the post Velvet revolution period films known to the public or regularly shown on the televion screens. For this purpose was chosen 53 films, which were devided according to their general interpretation and impression. I followed with an analyzation of the montage and bulding elements, that are used in these films, most oftenly shaping the opinion of the general public. The interpretations and contents of these films were compared to the results of the social-sientific research on the nature of normalization period and the dissent. Also these generally popular films were compared with the works standing outside of the mainstream documentary film, about the topic of dissent or previous regime in general. This theses is therefore refering to the problems of interpretation of the previous regime, normalization and the role of dissent in czech society.
The Downfall of Czech TV series

The thesis deals with the qualitative decline of the Czech serial production after the revolution, namely changes in the author-producer relationships, the impact of the introduction of the commercial broadcasters into the market and an internal development of the Public television. The thesis will also look at the changes in developement and production of tv series in the Czech republic. The thesis will be looking for the roots and consequences of this qualitative decline and will compare it with the socialist era as well as the profesional developement of the foreign tv series. Through the analysis of production processes, the text seeks to identify fundamental principles affecting the quality of television production and outline possible systemic changes to strengthen the potential for future domestic as well as foreign succsess of Czech tv production.
