Inventure of the City Center ? Brno – Veveří – Žerotínovo náměstí
Holá, Martina ; Chládek, Pavel (referee) ; Hybská, Bohumila (advisor)
The main subject of the thesis is a revision of current area framing northwest part of Žerotín Square, that nowadays consists of so called White house (center for children health care and a seat of a medical school). The design is based on theoretical situation concerning the removal of White house and therefore it uses the newly existing place as a subject for new architectural solution. The solution emphasizes the completion of current block of buildings with large courtyard and corner between Žerotín Square and Veveří street, which is very important for traffic. The thesis is focusing on finding the right form, scale and functional content which would reflect the importance of the location, especially focusing on the Brno’s ring road that goes directly to Denisovy sady and accessibility of this city’s part. It also respects the design of the back side of the Red Church. The design uses the newly existing place as a location for new apartment building that reflects the scale of similar buildings in Marešov and other nearby streets and it also proposes administration building as an architectural solution for this location, which would be used as a seat for both municipal and national institutions.

Multipurpose Town House on Křížová Street, Brno
Kuběnová, Veronika ; Mutina, Petr (referee) ; Sochor, Jan (advisor)
A new multipurpose town house has been designed into a vacant lot on Křížová street in Brno. Currently, Staré Brno is a territory without a clear concept, with high traffic load, and fragmented and often unsatisfactory development. The project therefore assumes and takes into account urban adjustments in this locality; in particular it anticipates traffic reduction in close proximity of the building and also decrease in noise load. The given location has some special features – its vastness allows it to form a whole street front; it shapes and closes a block which has a long history, its position is exceptional considering its closeness to Mendel square. The proposed building helps shape the appearance of Křížová street into which it opens with an urban-shaping facade. On the other hand, it distances itself from the inside yard which is unusable due to its unsatisfactory technical and aesthetic state. The building thus bears, within its own capacity, all the functional and spatial variety that the relation to the inside yard could offer. The result is a self-sufficient urban balcony-type building with a parquet circle designated to business and higher floors to living. There are 35 smaller flats projected for living, intended esp. for young families, couples or singles. The project assumes that the tenants will lead active and social lives, so it offers flexible outdoor areas that are both covered and open, surfaces that are both green and cemented and spaces that are both private and common.

The project deals with the development of a gap site which forms the front line of a street in a city block. The building consists of two parts: in the southern corner a five-storey administrative building with a café and a patio is situated; the second, larger part is a block of flats with a commercial parterre connected with a pedestrain zone. The block of flats is – in accordance with the surrounding built-up area – designed as a house with access galleries, the majority of flats contain two storeys. Parking spaces are provided in the form of two underground storeys accessible from the inner block.
Student Apartment Building
Vodička, Jan ; Drobníček, Ladislav (referee) ; Menšíková, Naděžda (advisor) ; Šuhajda, Karel (advisor)
Four-storey student apartment building fills a corner vacant lot in a compact city block. It’s placed on a busy street. Situating a café and a shop in the ground floor and a main entrance facing a tram stop is beneficial both for attracting passing people and for an easy access of residents. The volume composition is based on an analysis of the surroundings. It keeps the local height-level of the highest apartment buildings. There is a school-building right next door which has been kept in spatial dominance. The volume of the building is created with two intersecting blocks, each with different height – this creates a psychological tension in the corner position. The façades composition is based on two levels of scale; one is derived from a typical old apartment buildings’ window size and the second has its origin in the neighbouring school built in functionalistic style. There is a glass suspended façade preventing noise from outside to come in. It has a great impact on the building’s architecture. The building exterior is monochromatic with an exception of a few red-painted anchors holding the glass façade. The student apartment building’s design emphasizes a social contact between the residents. These can meet in a backyard, in a common room in ground floor, in a multilevel lounge with access to a roof terrace or simply on an exterior gallery connecting their flats.

Roleček, Jakub ; Drobníček, Ladislav (referee) ; Menšíková, Naděžda (advisor) ; Hradil, Dušan (advisor)
The subject of my bachelor’s thesis is a multifunctional building in the vacant site of Milady Horákové Street in the city of Brno-Zábrdovice. From the street view on the right it adjoins a secession four-storey block of flats by Josef Müller and on the left a contemporary seven-storey multi-purpose building designed by Dalibor Borák. Deliberately disharmonious proposal originates as a time-dependent impact of the two neighboring houses to align a significantly different character of their masses from both incoming angles. It forms a crystalline aggregate of basalt microscopic structures transferred to macroscopic nature of the building structure. The Semi-public space at the level of the ground floor connects the busy street with a quiet courtyard where there is a playground, vegetated cascade with a concrete stage and a café sitting. The podium "public socket" thus serves as an auditorium for various informal performances. In addition the house offers commercial, office and exclusive residential spaces, which are located on the top floors.
