Environments and projects that support children's reading

The thesis deals with a support of children's reading. The work is aimed to factors and actors influencing reading education. The first part solves theoretical definition and the meaning of reading. Primarily there are explained two important terms related to the topic - reading and a reader. Further it is proceeding by attention given to different phases of reading education before and during school attendance. Primarily three environments influencing reading literacy were observed. These include family, school and public library. Furthermore, national representative projects supporting reading primarily in libraries are shortly presented at this thesis as well. The second part is focused on the Municipal Library of Prague, specifically Smichov branch and its activities. In this part are charted various programmes for children. Repeated activities for parents with children or for children alone are observed. Also, events for groups of preschool and school children are described. The important part of presented work deals with survey of cooperation between Smichov branch and local schools. The research results are to determine practical experience of teachers from these schools in activities of Smichov branch and in their cooperation with this library.

Reference services of Musical Department of Municipal Library of Prague

This bachelor's thesis seeks to analyze, describe, and evaluate the current state of reference services at the Music Department of the Municipal Library of Prague. Within the scope of this work, the author will perform: - A basic exploration of the subject matter in terms of the available literature and other information; the research of selected sources and gathering of relevant information "on site", at the MLP building, will result in a brief presentation of key terms and principles pertaining to reference services, with a particular focus on the established practice of such services where they are associated with public music libraries. - An analysis and detailed description of the reference services on offer at the Music Department of the MLP, which will be presented in the main part of the thesis (the role of these services within the overall context of the reference service system at the MLP as a whole, and of cooperating music libraries across the Czech Republic; the operational coverage of these services in terms of storage and work space, financial funding, and manpower; reference stocks and resources; typical users of these services and types of requests; records of requests and their assessment; etc.). Audio and audiovisual documents in the Municipal library of Prague

The aim of this thesis is to present the collection of audio and audiovisual documents in the Municipal Library of Prague (further MLP). In the first chapter there are cited legislative documents which are directly related to the issue of lending of the mentioned materials. The next chapter presents audio and audiovisual documents and their history. The third chapter, which is the main one, deals with mentioned documents in the MLP; library processes (acquisition of documents, cataloguing) and possibilities of searching them on web or on-line are described there too. In addition, some special projects of the MLP (circulating collections, digitizing of gramophone records) are described there too. Library rules of the municipal libraries

(in English): The purpose of this diploma thesis deals with library rules (regulations) of Municipal Library of Prague, Jiři Mahen Library in Brno, Helsinki City Library and with a prefigurative library rules for public libraries available on National Library of Czech Republic. The goal of the thesis is to build a model rules structure based on the analysis of the mentioned library rules followed by the definition an optimal content of public library rules. This work further studies library rules of the Municipal Library of Prague for automated branch offices with a focus on their contentual and formal changes during the validity of the library rule in the period from April 20th 1998 to April 12th 2010. Finally, the thesis offers a brief interpretation remaining library rules. The result of the thesis is the contentual definition of the optimal library rules and its structure intended for public libraries.

The HISPRA Project of the Municipal Library of Prague's Digitalisation Department

The thesis analyses project HISPRA of The Municipal Library of Prague's Digitalisation Department - development of the project, schedule and funding. Other part of thesis presents Digitalisation Department, assumptions of establishment of the department, development, organization and staff, and hardware and software. Furthermore, there is a presentation of an object of digitization. The most important in this part of thesis is presentation of features of the historical documents about Prague. Furthermore, there is an introduction of document's selection strategy. Thesis also presents the various processes of digitization, including access to The Digital Library Kramerius.

Support of Reading in the Municipal Library Branches in Prague

(in English) The thesis deals with a support of reading with aim effort to offered service, organizing cultural and educational actions in the Municipal Library of Prague. The first part solves theoretical definition and the meaning of reading. There are briefly explained some terms that relate to - reading, the reader, reading socialization, reading literacy, etc. Factors that influence reading process and education for reading are monitored, as well. Furthermore, national representative projects supporting reading primarily in libraries are presented at my work, too. The second part of my work is focused on the Municipal Library of Prague and its role in supporting reading. It describes the library from the view of its mission, the way of financing (funding) and organization structure. The essential part pays attention to the presentation of specialized sections and services, which are provided in the library. It describes different actions supporting reading or providing propagation of the library. Last but not least, the different sections of the Municipal Library of Prague are depicted here with attention to organizing cultural and educational actions, which contributes to supporting reading. Communication activities of Municipal Library of Prague from 2007 to present

The bachelor thesis Communication activities of the Municipal Library of Prague from 2007 to present deals with marketing communication of the Municipal Library of Prague in this period. The two preliminary chapters of this bachelor thesis are devoted to the roles that books and libraries have in our society. The following part discusses the relationship between public libraries and marketing. Afterwards there is a brief introduction of the Municipal Library of Prague as an important organization for cultural life of Prague citizens. The main part of this bachelor thesis deals with the specific communication activities of this institution, when initially it focuses on the analysis of parts of the marketing mix of the Municipal Library of Prague and then analyzing its marketing communication. Each used communication tool is discussed in detail to provide a comprehensive view of how the Municipal Library of Prague communicates. The analysis includes both classical tools such as PR, but also new ones. Great emphasis is placed on Internet communications as the main form of communication of the Municipal Library of Prague. Organization's web site and its profile on social networks are subjects of widespread research. Recommendations are also included in this analysis.

Approaches to determining the value of public services from consumers perspective

Potřeba hledat úspory ve veřejných rozpočtech staví čím dále větší počet veřejných knihoven před úkol odpovědět na otázku po své užitečnosti. A odpovědět nikoliv ve floskulích či neměřitelných kategoriích. Je třeba odpovídat v korunách, procentech či měsících návratnosti. A je třeba nalézt odpovědi nejen na otázky užitečnosti knihovny jako celku, ale i jednotlivých služeb či jejich okruhů. Městská knihovna v Praze spolu s Univerzitou Pardubice a Univerzitou Matěja Béla v Bánské Bystrici pracují na tříletém projektu, který by měl pomoci nalézt metodiku hodnověrně prováděných výzkumů v této oblasti.
