Preventive politics of children's mental health problems in schools
Dománková, Hana ; Tušková, Eva (advisor) ; Kotherová, Zuzana (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on prevention and promotion in children's mental health on primary schools. Through mixed research design it explores institutional setting and current state of implementation of preventive and promoting activities at schools. It also gives a few "good practice" examples from other countries. The theoretical basis is drawn from public policy and health policy concepts - from public policy there is used the policy cycle framework, the governance concept and street-level bureaucracy theory. From health policy, this thesis uses the public health concept and primary prevention. The results show that meanwhile the issue of children's mental health prevention and promotion is taken very seriously on international level of governance and similar attitude was shown in schools themselves when questioned, the situation is different on the national level of governance. In particular, there is no explicit policy targeting this issue which leads to many inhomogeneous, fragmented activities on street-level (in schools) which then makes it very hard to evaluate, whether they have or have not the desired impact on children's mental health.
Gender and social inequalities in mental health
Machů, Vendula ; Dzúrová, Dagmar (advisor) ; Pikhart, Hynek (referee)
Gender inequality is the root cause of the differences in mental disorders prevalence between men and women. The aim of this thesis was to examine social inequalities in mental health, focusing on gender as a critical determinant of mental health and mental illness. In the first chapter, the ways mental health is shaped by gender and other social determinants are discussed. Gender-based discrimination, traditional gender roles, unequal distribution of power and lack of control over life events are the most common risk factors for higher prevalence of mental disorders in women. In the empirical part of this thesis the European countries were grouped based on indicators related to women's mental health. The typology was developed using factor and cluster analyses. Subsequently, logistic regression analysis investigated associations between prevalence of depression and various social determinants of mental health in respondents of the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE). The results suggest that risk factors for common mental disorders are gender specific.
The issue of mental health in the population of the Czech Republic
ONDRÁČKOVÁ, Silvie
The aim of the thesis in the theoretical section was to describe the mental health problems in the Czech Republic. The main goal of the research work was to draw attention to these problems and to explore the psychiatric treatment from the outpatients' perspective. Mental health is a vast topic which I elaborated using many relevant sources mentioned in analytical, statistical and other materials as well as the official Czech and international documents. The findings show that in spite of undisputable pluses of the Czech system, the accessibility of the psychiatric care is unsatisfactory and the promotion of the mental health services has been seriously neglected and delayed in the Czech Republic compared with most EU countries. A fundamental positive change has been expected with the implementation of two key agendas - the Psychiatric Care Reform Strategy and the Mental Health Action Plan. For the thesis an original, non-standardized written questionnaire was used to evaluate depressed and anxious patients' point of view of their treatment. The quantitative research was later evaluated using statistical methods. The quantitative research was evaluated with the SPSS statistical software. Hypotheses were tested using the chi-square. The results suggest that the fear of stigmatisation by psychiatric care as well as the time to a psychiatrist visit are influenced by diagnosis and specific health problems. The results also suggest that the personality type and family milieu are more important than socio-demographic factors. Gender differences do not influence the compliance either. The complex outcomes of the patients' attitude research can be later used in designing better mental health care.
Where does the Czech policy of mental health go?
Kondorová, Lenka ; Háva, Petr (advisor) ; Bodnár, Jan (referee)
This thesis deals with the Czech and international ideas applied in the "Strategy of Reform of Psychiatric Care" issued in 2013 by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. The main starting point of this work is the fact that the care of people with mental illness in Czech and international environment is oriented on the biological treatment of the patient with psycho- pharmaceuticals and that there is a deficit in the area of psychosocial treatment. International and Czech mental health policy seeks to promote a bio-psycho-social approach to patient's care. However, current psychiatry continues to be involved in conducting clinical research focused on the efficiency of psycho-pharmaceuticals. These studies are driven and sponsored mainly by the pharmaceutical industry. But international and Czech policies are still not able to adequately reflect this situation within the field of psychiatry. The Czech Republic has not so far paid attention to mental health issues and has lagged behind the other developed countries in this area. The empirical part of this work is divided into two parts. The first part of the research focuses on the Czech and international ideas applied in the "Strategy of Reform of Psychiatric Care" issued in 2013 by Ministry of Health. The methods used here are - content...
Mental Health Policy in Czech Republic
Divíšek, Michal ; Háva, Petr (advisor) ; Bodnár, Jan (referee)
The aim of this work is to compare the goals and approaches of the Psychiatric Reform Strategy issued by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic in 2013 with the the World Health Organization (WHO) strategic documents seen as representing current world trends in mental health care. Comparative case study was carried out, which included, in addition to the Psychiatric Reform Strategy, two mental health action plans published by the WHO. The main findings of my work are differences in approaches to mental health, where the psychiatric reform strategy only limits to the field of psychiatry and the recipients of its care, while the world trends that are reflected in the action plans, addresses this issue more complexly as a societal problem. In some respects, mental health policy in Czech republic is getting closer to the world trends, but the difference in approach to mental health is still noticeable.
Inclusion of peer worker into mental health service team
Hromádková, Karolína ; Probstová, Václava (advisor) ; Říčan, Pavel (referee)
The objective of the thesis is description of a new position of a peer consultant in the area of the mental health care from the view of a working team into which he enters. Furthermore, the thesis wants to submit a report about the form of this role abroad and about specific factors during his implementation into the team. The collection of data of qualitative research was realized among 12 social workers and 4 peers in three working teams three times within one year. The research methods that were used: interview according to guideline, nonparticipant structured observation of team meetings and time axis. Data from interviews were processed by inductive method inspired by grounded theory (open, axial and selective coding). The research question was focused on the process, positives and difficulties during integration of the peer worker into the working team. Research proved that the main obstacles in the successful integration of a peer were insufficient and quick preparation of a team on the peer position; absence of the social workers during the recruitment; bad technical equipment; lack of clients suitable for peer and personal discrepancy between a peer and the rest of a working team. On the contrary, the factors that acted favourably were workshops of the team with more experienced...
