The main goal of the thesis entitled "The selected methods of social work with clients self-non sufficient in health care facilities" was to describe and to analyze methods used in activation of the elderly suffering from dementia. It draws a comparison of different settings and explores workers's attitude to the methods of activation. The text of the thesis was mapped out into five chapters. The first chapter was set into the context of old age and ageing. The second chapter is concerned with the issues of self-sufficiency and dependency of old age and other related issues. The topic of the third chapter is old age in relation with memory. It defines memory and memory disorders in the elderly suffering from dementia. The fourth chapter is crucial and gives an idea of non-pharmacological and other possible activities which are eligible for application in practice and are intended to reduce cognitive disorders of cognitive functions and behavior disorders. The theoretical part enters into research carried out in four facilities which care for clients with dementia. The effect of smoking, alcohol consumption and physical activity on the risk of dementia

Title: The effect of smoking, alcohol consumption and physical activity on the risk of dementia Objectives: The main aim was to estimate influence of selected factors on the development of dementia. Methods: Bachelor thesis is designed as a cross-sectional study. Data for analysis was obtained from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE). Results: Data from 6,339 females and 7,226 males older than 60 years was analyzed. Smoking and problem with alcohol drinking were the most dangerous factors for development of dementia. Progress in the care of gerontopsychiatric in - patients

The bachelor thesis Development of care for gerontopsychiatric patients deals mainly with the development of nursing care at the gerontopsychiatric admission department of the Psychiatric Hospital Kosmonosy. The thesis describes the history of the psychiatric hospital and the establishment of gerontopsychiatric department. Other chapters describe the development of department equipment, the number of nursing staff, therapy regimen over twenty years and specifics of nursing care. Patient diagnoses leading to admission to Gerontopsychiatric departments are also described. The next section describes the development of nursing care at the department. It mainly deals with the process of patient admission, nursing care and documentation, staff approach to patients and relatives. My personal experience will certainly be reflected in the thesis because I have worked at the Gerontopsychiatric department for twenty years. The aim of this thesis is to find out what changes have occurred over twenty years. Therefore, considerable changes which I found out will be described and possible future development of gerontopsychiatry will be outlined in the conclusion. Home care of seniors suffering from diagnosed Alzheimer's Disease

This is my bachelor's thesis. I try to look into the issue of home care for family members diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. My target is to bring the risks and difficulty of this care. I also want to support families that have decided to give their family members a personal, full and proper, care. The theoretical part of the thesis is focused to the history, theoretical knowledge, diagnosis and symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. After that attention is directed to the demands, specifics and problems of home care for seniors diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. In the practical part of this thesis are presented case studies. In conclusion evaluates how to achieve the objectives of the research and the research question.
Testing the efficacy of potential therapeutics for Alzheimer,s disease

Adéla Dolejšová Testing the efficacy of potential therapeutics for Alzheimer,s disease Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Kralove Pharmacy The aim of this thesis was to find out whether already implemented Ellman's method, which is used to analyse irreversible inhibitors AChE, is going to be a suitable technique for measuring reversible inhibitors. Furthermore, the efficiency of newly synthesized AChE inhibitors was established. These inhibitors will be used for treating AD or as prophylaxis against neural paralytic substances. Moreover, it was compared affect the efficacy of AChE inhibitors after intramuscular and intraperitoneal administration. The measurements were done in vivo on potkan species Wistar. In the first experiment standard AChE (tacrin, 7-MEOTA, donepezil, rivastigmin) inhibitors were applied to verify the method. In the second experiment the newly synthesizes AChE (K 298, K 344, K 474) inhibitors were medicine. The results confirmed the effectiveness of the tested method on commonly used inhibitors such as donepezil and rivastigmin. Out of the newly synthesized K 298, K 344 and K 474 inhibitors none was proven to have any significant inhibiting activity. Depression in the elderly with focus on people with cognitive deficit

Depressive symptoms are very common among people with neurocognitive disorder. The comorbidity of both diseases and the overlap of their symptoms complicates correct diagnosis and thus also the initiation of a correct treatment. The instruments of depression measuring in seniors with a severe cognitive deficit are also a discussed issue. The subject of the theoretical part is to describe the issue of depression and cognitive disorders in the old age with a focus on Alzheimer's disease, which is the most common mental disorder in the elderly together with depression. The goal of the empirical part of the thesis is to research based on the interviews with seniors if the most frequently used method of depression measuring in the elderly, Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), is a suitable measuring instrument also in seniors with a cognitive deficit and further examine how these seniors actually experience the individual mood qualities which are the subjects of items in GDS. Forty seniors with a various degree of cognitive deficit participated in the research. The study results showed that the questionnaire is usable for seniors with a mild cognitive impairment and mild dementia.
