The ČTK as a source of main television news sessions

This diploma thesis is describing the influence of Czech Press Agency on major television news programs. Theoretical part is defining, what the agenda setting is and how medias handles agency news. Significant part is also dealing with description a characteristic of media functioning. In practical part, author is measuring the influence of Czech Press Agency by using method known as quantitative content analysis. As proven, agency have a significant, but limited influence on televion broadcasting news. Thesis in last part deals in detail with the analysis of this influence.

Media image of child sexual abuse in Czech TV news

The bachelor's thesis is focused on media image of child sexual abuse in Czech TV news. The thesis introduces the issues of this serious social problem, presents context of social sciences, rapist, victims and consequences of sexual abuse. The media chapter introduces possible influences of news about child sexual abuse on society. Quantitative content analysis was used for the research. Three of the most popular TV stations - ČT1, Nova, Prima − were included in the research. News transcription related to child sexual abuse was monitored from the beginning of 2010 until the end of 2015 with the aid of the Newton Media SEARCH database. The time period was chosen because of actuality and sufficient sample of news. Three large cases were chosen. Cases were connected with organizations (the Scout group, the BBC television, the Catholic church). These organizations should help and protect children. The affairs were presented, in detail, the data from the news were analyzed, then interpreted and compared. The aim of the analysis was to find if society is sufficiently informed about this problem, if news about child sexual abuse can transform the society's view and if the news had some taboo or stereotypes about this problem.
Non-standard photography methods in audiovisual journalism

The aim of the diploma thesis "Non- standard photography methods in audiovisual journalism" is to present image and production methods that are used in television news and journalism - particularly those ones that defy standard methods. These methods appear, considering technological development and the endeavour of making neutral visual space of television journalism, more attractive. First chapter of the thesis presents television news, its history, characteristics, elements and typology of television news production. Next chapter deals with the visual aspects of audiovisual works. The audiovisual language, its expressive elements and specific aspects of the image in television are presented. Main part of the thesis focuses on the photography methods in television journalism. Based on the literature and interviews with creative workers from the Czech television it presents photography methods and especially non- standard methods that use small sports action cameras, unmanned air devices or hidden cameras. The thesis mentions also production methods videojournalism and mobile journalism (MoJo) that uses standard mobile devices for professional news production. Particular examples from the broadcasting of the Czech televison are presented in the final chapter.
Stand-up in contemporary television news

This bachelor thesis is concerned with the status of stand-up in contemporary television news. The first part focuses on a definition of stand-up and its types in the available reference books and in the internal documents of Czech Television as well as on newly expanding methods of applying it with the emphasis on stand-up reporting. It also deals with the position of reporter and with comparison between stand-ups on public and private broadcasting. The second part is based on an analysis of chosen television news packages which describes principles of using stand-up in practice.
Negativity in news programme Televizní noviny (TV Nova) and news programme Události (ČT)

In master thesis called Negativity in Television News we dealt with the structure of television news from good news vs. bad news angle of view and in context both public service and commercial based media. We focused on two main TV news programmes Události (Czech television) and Televizní noviny (TV Nova). Bad news category was analysed in depth then. The text starts with a chapter about relationship between media contents and reality so we were describing social constructivism theory in media context. Then we dealt with mechanisms and influences, which affect form of media outputs; we focused on concept of news values and processes of tabloidization and commercialization. Next chapter was dedicated to definition of negativity in news. In this context we described presence of bad news in coverage during the history; we dealt with media violence and its effects on audience; we defined media negativity and set up the typology of bad news. The analysis showed us percentage of bad news in two main news programmes of Czech television and TV Nova. We found out, which negative topics were predominating and they were analysed in depth then. In this part of analysis we were researching through what particular factors of negativity the negative impression of news is being increased.
Comparation of press agencies and foreign reporters news contribution

Diploma thesis "Comparation of press agencies and foreign correspondents news contribution" observe, analyze and compare foreing news in main television news sessions on channels Česká televize and FTV Prima. The target is to learn, if foreign television correspondents can distinctly contribute to the news progamme. Working hypothesis comes from theoretical scholar literature and practical experiences of author. The research establish approximate percentage of original correspondet reports and news agency reports edited in Prague in the selected media sample. With quantitative reserach approach the work evaluate parameters of each foreign news report. The goal is to make the analysis the most reliable as possible. It focuses questions as if correspondent brings exclusive topics and topics with relation to Czech republic, if correspondents are pushed to produce feature reports instead of actual reports, if live coverage is really the most up-to-date and authentic form of reporting, if world news agencies are really indispensable source of international news and audiovisual materials and if news agencies offer more complex service than televison correspondents.
Transformations of the evening news Události and regional news of ČT since 2007 to 2012

The main aim of the master thesis Transformations of the evening news Události and regional news of ČT since 2007 to 2012 was to introduce news in context of normative theories, television news in context of Czech Republic, their development and current conditions. Theoretical frame of the thesis was political economy of communication, outlining the background of news production, and contributing to understand news issues. Essential part of the thesis was the combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis used as a tool for examining news objectivity at evening and regional news of public television Česká televize since 2007 to 2012, its development and differences between evening and regional news. Objectivity was researched through relevance and uncovering bias by visual balance and neutral presentation. It was found that evening news Události dedicate most of the time to foreign, occasional and political events, 35 % of news showed elements of siding, for example by dramatization, possible reality distortion and using expressive expressions. In terms of regional Brno's news Události v regionech it was found that the highest relevance was assigned to points of interest news and local news, 17 % of news showed elements of siding using mostly evaluative expressions. Media image of the "vitkov arsonists" case in čt1 tv news

This bachelor thesis deals with the media image of the 'Vítkov Arsonists' case in Czech Television main news programme Události between 19 April 2009 and 13 August 2009, which is the period beginning with the arson attack and ending with the detention of the suspects. The theoretical part is divided into two parts. The first one deals with the media image of the Roma people with a general focus on the problematics of stereotypization of ethnic minorities, in particular the Roma minority in Czech media. The second one is focused on the description of methods used for media analysis, in particular analysis of objectivity and its violations and visual analysis. The practical part of the thesis is focused on the analysis of the news items broadcasted by the given news programme in the determined time period in terms of quality and quantity. This part takes into account the number of news items related to the Vítkov case and their genre typology. It also analyses the informational quality of the content of the news items, the visual coverage of the case, as well as the presentation of the case and of the individuals involved in the case. Manipulation, disinformation and faults in television news

The thesis considers with balance and objectivity of the main news program of Česká televize. It tries to unfold inaccurate coverages, being transmitted in Události from september 2009 until december 2009. Inadequacies are further described and analysed in detail. Based on personal judgement, there is a possible reason and inflictor stated. The objective of this thesis is to point out Inadequacies in main news service of statutory television from view of objectivity, balance, correctness and other faults. Further provides aspects, which are the most frequent purpose of making faults. Thesis supplements monthly reports of Czech info company, which judges balance of news service only in constrained scale. The results of analysis provides valueable ratings of Události not only for television management, but for redactors themselves and other members of news team. The thesis doesn't lack even consideration about possibility of minimalisation the mentioned inadequacies. The source of information and data are articles, documents from Česká televize database, news service online archiv and experience from working in news room ČT. First part of thesis is concentrated on theoretical base. Serves to understand the whole problematics and as starting point for rest of the thesis. Even contains practical examples of manipulation and disinformation from the past and present. Second part describes the way of investigation of Česká televize news service and defines criteria of ratings. Third part of the thesis summarises results of the analysis, judges frequency and importance of inadequacies in news service and summarises their characteristics and elimination possibility. Conclusion summarises knowledge of the thesis, their comments, and enrichment from ČT news room experience.
