Boar vocalizations and their potential role in sexual selection
Roreitnerová, Daniela ; Linhart, Pavel (advisor) ; Schneiderová, Irena (referee)
The aim of this research was to gather existing knowledge about vocalizations of boars and their potential role in sexual selection. Few studies mainly from the 70s and 80s of the last century suggest that the so-called love song, emitted by males during courtship, could act as a stimulant that triggers mating. However, I did not find any evidence that boars significantly use calls in fights. Most studies deal with pig vocalization in a different context. For this reason, I tried to look at the studies of pig relatives - even-toed ungulates - to better evaluate the potential role of boar vocalizations in sexual selection. In their case, the influence of the calls on the sexual behavior of females and competing males was reported. It is possible to conclude that the role of boar vocalization is probably not that important as in red deers, for example, because boars use calls in short range communication. On the other hand, stimulatory effect on females was found in other species too. Further studies are needed to understand possible function of boar vocalizations that could be used for example in pig breeding to improve the effectiveness of artificial insemination of sows. Individual sexual behaviour control as a public policy topic (based on analysis of regulations in the Czech Republic)
Vošmik, Josef ; Angelovská, Olga (advisor) ; Novotný, Vilém (referee)
Josef Vošmik Diploma thesis: Individual sexual behaviour control as a public policy topic (based on analysis of regulations in the Czech Republic) ABSTRACT The goal of the diploma thesis named Individual sexual behaviour control as a public policy topic was, based on the analysis of the law regulations in the Czech Republic, to define and understand how sexual expressions are legally limited in our country. Human sexuality is a very private affair, but there are certain situations when the state authority has to interfere. Human sexuality is a very complex phenomenon. On one side it has very deep biological roots, but on the other side satisfying our needs has been modified by the culture and society as well. Therefore in the theoretical part of the paper we tried to draw main components of sexuality through the view of such branches as ethology, psychology, social and cultural antropology, sociology and gender studies as well as ethics, law and public policy. Questioning human sexuality we cannot omit sexuology as a branch which is associated with it most closely. So we aspired to describe the basic elements of sexual motivation which are sexual identification, orientation and emotions. Of course we paid special attention to sexual behaviour. The sexual disorders were also addressed, because they have a...
Noninvasive measurement of steroid homones and effect of hormonal manipulation on behaviour in the gecko Paroedura picta
Matušková, Lucie ; Kratochvíl, Lukáš (advisor) ; Fraňková, Marcela (referee)
Hormones influence life of all animals. Not only they affect physiological changes in organisms, but also impact their behaviour. This work focuses at two main groups of steroid hormones: glucocorticoids and androgens. Glucocortiods are activated in response to stress. Their levels can be measured using non-invasive methods, which have a range of advantages. The main advantage is the feedback-free sample collection for enzyme immunoassay. As the measurement involves metabolites of the hormones rather than the hormones themselves, prior validation of the method is, however, necessary. This work reports on a study aiming to validate non-invasive measurement on the Madagascar Ground Gecko (Paroedura Picta). The validation was based on ACTH challenge test: Synacthen Depot was injected, which should lead to increased blood level of glucocorticoids. The validation, however, was not successful. The measurement did not discover significant increase in the levels of the metabolites of glucocorticoids. In addition, the work focuses on behavioural effects of testosterone, the primary androgen. Hormonal manipulations have been carried out on several male and female specimens. The results have discovered differences in sexual behaviour between control groups. On the other hand, the hormonal manipulations had no...
Men's sexual fantasies
Svatoňová, Petra ; Weiss, Petr (advisor) ; Šivicová, Gabriela (referee)
This study is concerned with men's sexual fantasies content that appears either within partner's sexual lovemaking or during masturbation. Except fantasy description and classifying it also pays attention to the associations with sexual satisfaction. The study results have proved that they appear much more and in higher variety with masturbation. One of the most popular fantasies is lovemaking with the own partner. Most men state one deviant fantasy at least, homosexual fantasy is an ordinary phenomenon even with heterosexual men. From the point of sexual satisfaction some differences have been approved in the fantasy content in contrast with unsatisfied individuals. Sharing mutual fantasy with the own partner has been approved to be very important.
Sexual Behavior of Adolescents in the Context of Health and Social Issues
KUBIŠTOVÁ, Tereza
The theme of this thesis is the sexual behaviour of adolescents in the context of health and social issues and the aim of this thesis is to explore this behaviour. Today it is proven that tolerant standards of adults shape the attitudes of young people. Therefore, the work will focus on clarifying opinions and viewpoints of juvenile sex life. The research involved a total of 40 respondents, who were selected by random selection principle from secondary schools in České Budějovice. The research sample was divided according to gender quota to 20 girls and 20 boys aged 17 years. The data were processed by statistical analysis and nonparametric methods, namely the Mann-Whitney test and the chi-square test, were used for hypothesis testing. The main aim of this thesis was to explore the characteristics and consequences of sexual behaviour of adolescents in secondary schools in České Budějovice. On the basis of the goals three hypotheses were set: hypothesis no. 1 "The boys start sexual life earlier than girls", hypothesis no. 2 "Girls pay attention to protected sexual intercourse more than boys" and the hypothesis no. 3 "Students who think that the sex education (discussions on sexual topics) in primary schools has meaning start sexual life later". This thesis could be used by social workers in social work with minors. It could be used also by curators for work with the young. Finally, it could be used to educate children in primary schools, particularly in the subjects of sexual education or health education.
Comparing of intergenerational point of view on sexual behaviour and romantic relationships
NEJEDLOVÁ, Veronika
This bachelor thesis discusses attitude and behaviour of two generations and also gender differences. We compare points of view of two generations on sexual behaviour and romantic relationships. The theoretical part is divided into three main chapters and first chapter discusses sexual behaviour. In this part there are basic theoretical premises of sexual behaviour, choice of a sexual partner and metamorphosis of sexual behaviour through human era. The second part of theoretical part resumes the basic knowledge about choice of life partner, metamorphosis about choice of life partner through human era, forms of relationships, premises for relationships, the importance of relationships and also the question of infidelity. The third chapter describes basic knowledge about what generation is and how these two generations used for our research are different. The empiric part of this bachelor these sis aimed at exploring of different attitudes of two generations: the generation of "grandparents" (n = 30), in this group there are people born between years 1935 1950, and the generation of "grandchilds", in this group there are people born between years 1990 1997. The gender differences were examined too. The questionnaire used for this research was made specially for this bachelor theses and was built on basic knowledge from theoretical part. Statistic data processing was made in the Statistica 12 program and we used Mann-Whitney test and Contingency table. At the beginning 13 hypotheses were set up and in the end five of them was confirmed. In discussion there are reasons and limits of research analyzed.
Sexual behaviour of bulls in natural breeding
GOUBEJOVÁ, Jaroslava
The aim of this thesis was to capture basic categories of behaviour and sexual behaviour of bulls in natural breeding, acquire and evaluate data from behavioural observations. The observations were realized in the village Obora u Tachova and were focused on a pedigree bull of a breed called Limousine (ZLI 796) and a herd of 26 breeding-cows, crossbreed beef cattle which are reared in the system of cows without market production of milk. The observations were made during the period from March 2013 till March 2014. The pedigree bull was in the herd of cows classified year-round. Monitoring with subsequent recording from the observations was performed whenever there was a breeding-cow in the herd and was discovered by a regular inspection of the herd observer. The snapshot method was used for the observations with the length of an interval of 5 minutes. From the ethological observation it emerged that the category of lying influences sexual behaviour of the bull towards to a breeding-cow the most. The value decreased from 15.97%, which was recorded in case of no breeding-cow in the herd, to 11.87 % in case of one breeding-cow in the herd and, if there were more breeding-cows the value fell to 2,51 %. For the category called movement, the value increased from 12.50 % to 16.03 % in case of one breeding-cow and when there were more breeding-cows, the value increased to 22.17 %. Sexual behaviour of the bull has only a low effect on feed intake, which was always held on the level of 47 % and the category called stall which was in case of no breeding-cow and one breeding-cow 24 %. For more breeding-cows the values increased to 27%. It was found out that the length of a movement extends at the expense of lying. The number of failed attempts to copulate the bull with one breeding-cow decreased from 17.91 experiments to 12.22 experiments with two or three breeding-cows. In case of successful copulations, the value increased from the original 5.73 copulations with one breeding-cow in the herd to 6.56 copulations with the average number of successful copulations 3.11 per one copulation. The highest intensity of copulation passed off in the morning between 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., the second peak occurred around 5 p. m. in the afternoon. The success rate of the bull in the herd of the breeding-cows, where there was only one breeding-cow, was 81.82 %. The success rate of the bull in the herd of breeding-cows, where there were two or three breeding-cows, was 72.73 %. The total fertility of the bull reached to 91.30 %.
Do condoms prevent or help the spread of HIV virus?
Jánská, Zuzana ; Bartoň, Petr (advisor) ; Chytil, Zdeněk (referee)
The male condoms were massively expanded to Africa in 1990s as a result of growing HIV prevalence in most parts of Sub-Saharan Africa. Many transnational non-profit organizations together with national governments were engaged in this expansion of condom distribution. The biggest condom donator are the United States of America which have already provided tens of milliards of dollars to fight against AIDS by distribution of condoms. Was this financial aid used effectively and did the money have the right intended effect? Scientists agree on the statement that the effectiveness of condoms as contraceptives is around 90%. What is the efficiency of using condoms helping against the transmission of the virus HIV, if a single HIV virus cell is much smaller than a sperm cell? With the help of regression analysis using panel data we can give a definite answer to the crucial question -- do condoms help or prevent the spread of HIV virus?
