Cooperative game editor
Žofák, Norbert ; Keznikl, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Kruliš, Martin (referee)
The aim of the work is implementation of a cooperative game editor. The editor is mainly designed for non-programmers, who wish to create their own RPG games, alone or in cooperation with others. Game elements - basic units of the game world - are templated, so users can easily add new game elements to the game world. The game is driven by events, which can be handled by user-defined Lua scripts. User interface of the editor is simple and straightforward with well-arranged lists of game elements and a property editor for easy editing. The editor provides two modes - edit mode and play mode. The latter is designed for immediate testing of currently edited game. Cooperativity of the editor is ensured by synchronization with a database server. The result of a work in the editor is a final game in the form of an executable package.
Impact of Playing RPG on Players' Development of Creative Thinking
Sabonová, Karolína ; Lukavská, Kateřina (advisor) ; Hříbková, Lenka (referee)
This diploma thesis examines the impact of playing RPG on the development of players'creative thinking. Our aim was to analyze the development of creative thinking in relation with RPG playing. This development was observed in the group of beginners and advanced players and in the control group during six months using creative thinking tests (Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking - Figural, Urban's Test for Creative Thinking- Drawing Production). Tests were administered three times, in the beginning, after 3 months and after 6 months. During the second measurement the experimental group was also assigned a Creative Personality Scale (CPS). The obtained values were processed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and t-tests. Overall, it has not been conclusively proved that playing RPG influenced the creative thinking development of players, but a certain trend of improved creativity, especially in RPG-beginners was observed. We found out that the gaming intensity (hours per week) and the creativity are not related. A positive relation between the CPS score and the creativity improvement and also relation between the age and the creativity improvement was established. Social network Common sing: subcultures and media
Bártová, Dominika ; Wolák, Radim (advisor) ; Šoltys, Otakar (referee)
In the course of 20th century, various subcultures became important part of our society. They were formed by mutual belief and shared interest in values often dissonant to those of majority. This paper describes larp community, fellowship that creates and organizes theatre- like role playing sessions. Live action role playing is about establishing new fictional worlds and retrieting legendary tales with main focus on joy experienced during the game. A radio documentary "Fenomen larp" (i.e. Phenomenon LARP) complementing this paper provides detailed insight. Main goal of the work is to put together the overview of the means of communication within larp community with accent on zines, webzines and Facebook. It also describes the way mainstream media covers the topic and what is the public opinion towards larp together with content analysis of texts published in "Pevnost" (i.e. Citadel) magazine. In appendix there are photographs from documentary shooting, interview with Helena Jiskrova (creator of Common sign social network) and overview of media outputs on larp in Czech Republic during 2014.
Progress in the representation of the LGBT minority in RPG videogames and accepting of queer topics by gamers and game-developers
Moravec, Ondřej ; Švelch, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Baslarová, Iva (referee)
Diploma thesis "Progress of representation of the LGBT minority in RPG-story-based PC games and accepting the homosexual themes by gamers and game developers" deals with new way of representation of LGBT minority via videogames. While traditional media as film or literature are able to narrate only by the linear way, with the development of RPG genre the new ergodic literature appeals. This style of narration has many ways which you can follow - and one of them is also the way of playing with LGBT character - the way which can be close for some other players. Work combines a few views on this problem - how does the language of videogames support such ideas? How game developers are interested in this matter? And what about the homosexual gamers - what do they want? This works also include the analysis of the video games, which changed the view on the representation of LGBT minority in videogames (Mass Effect I-III, Dragon Age I-II). The goal of this work is to offer the first compact text on this topic in Czech but even also in world context. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Generating Side Quests for RPG Games From Hand-Crafted Building Blocks
Hromada, Tomáš ; Černý, Martin (advisor) ; Chrpa, Lukáš (referee)
Role-playing games (RPG) often contain side quests - shorter quests not related to the main story, to give the player the feeling of freedom and to let him choose his own path. For this effect to be good, there must be a large number of side quests in the game. Replacing hand-made quests with generated ones is one of the possibilities to make this task easier, however contemporary attempts at generating quests result in the quests being simple and repetitive. This thesis aims to explore a different approach to the problem, a system generating side quests from a set of hand-crafted building blocks. An abstract design and an implementation are described, along with the methods used for evaluating the implementation. The system was evaluated on a group of players, which rated the generated quests similarly to the hand-picked ones.

Šurín, Lukáš ; Hnětynka, Petr (advisor) ; Kofroň, Jan (referee)
The aim of this work is to create game environment with added RPG elements which is sharing similarities with the Minecraft. We analyze the game environment further describing the properties that the project should include for the fulfillment of objectives. It contains design and implementation of the game using techniques for efficient and correct running. Project provides a description of possible extensions and shows the usage of LuaJ library for the execution of Lua scripts. The resulting state of the project describes two created games and compares the ability of the established gaming environment with a variety of others which it is appropriate to compare.
