The thesis Radio Broadcasting for the German Minority in the Czech Countries until the Year 1945, with the Example of the Melnik Broadcast Transmitter describes the radio broadcasting for the German people living in Bohemia and Moravia in the period from its formation until the year 1945. It concentrates on the radio broadcaster in Melnik that was built in 1938 with the purpose of giving a special broadcasting to the German minority living in the Czech countries. The analytical part is divided into three sections: broadcasting for the Germans in the First and Second Republic and Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Another chapter focuses on the broadcasting from The Soviet Union (especially on the broadcaster Sudetendeutscher Freiheitssender) and Great Britain. It focuses on the contrasting access to the radio broadcasting for this group from the side of the Czech political representation and from the side of the German state. In the Czechoslovakia, there was this broadcasting in hands of the private institution Urania. The Sudeten Germans have focused their attention to the German stations, which were offering them more popular program. Prágrová, Šárka ; Křeček, Jan (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
Diploma thesis "Radio Stalin as an example of Czech piracy radio broadcast" is aimed to complexly present radio station Radio Stalin which was broadcasting in October 1990 in Prague. Radio Stalin is presented in the context of events of that time and related changes in politics, economy, society and media and in the context of piracy radio broadcast. First of all the emphasis is put on media transformation and changes in legislative framework of radio broadcasting after 1989. Radio Stalin is described through the method of oral history when interviews were held with its several cofounders. This method was chosen because of absence or unavailability of other sources. However, press is used partly. In this thesis is created overall picture of Radio Stalin. It is possible to imagine the situation and conditions in which was this radio created, the period before the start of broadcasting, the broadcasting process, the end of its broadcasting and the continuation of it. The benefit of thesis is the reminder of this often neglected radio which has its own place in the history of Czech radio broadcasting. Personnel policy in Czechoslovak radio 1945 - 1948
Pavlovič, Radek ; Cebe, Jan (advisor) ; Knapík, Jiří (referee)
The aim of this work is to describe how the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia influenced the personnel policy of the Czechoslovak Radio and thereby interfered into radio broadcasting in the years 1945 - 1948. In the introductory chapters thesis focuses on political and economic developments in Czechoslovakia after 1945, with a significant part describing the parliamentary elections in May, 1946. In the following chapters thesis describes the development of media, which had entirely a new socially responsible role. At the same time in the post-war Czechoslovakia there was a prevailing opinion that the media should not be a subject of uncontrolled business anymore, but rather should be under state control. The main part of the thesis describes the development of Radio. At that time the only mass medium also obtained a new role - in the past broadcasting had primarily a entertainment feature, during the Third Republic Radio became an imporant organizer of public life. Under the circumstances various groups had an interest to gain influence in Radio. Mostly communists were successful. It was easier, because they managed to occupy several crucial functions of the management of Radio. At the same time they interefered with a strong apparatus - from the Ministry of Information, through the Revolutionary...
Radio broadcasting as a community tool of urban subcultur
Míkovcová, Eliška ; Maršík, Josef (advisor) ; Křeček, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis aims to describe and explain the phenomenon of the community radio broadcasting. Despite the fact, that this sector has not been implemented in the Czech media system to supplement the dual system of public and private stations, broadcasting of this type does exist. As a subject of my case study I chose the internet radio StreetCulture as I consider it to be a unique example within the Czech media market. StreetCulture proves its specificity with a very wide range of contents. It acts as a platform for a large number of different communities and it also interconnects the participants within the public space StreetBar. The analytical part of the thesis investigates how this radio station fulfils four basic dimensions of community media as defined by the media theorist Nico Carpentier: community aspect, alternative aspect, civil aspect and rhizomatic aspect. For each of these specifics I tried to demonstrate how it relates to the StreetCulture radio station concerning both the organization and content of the broadcast and how it is reflected in various non-broadcasting activities of StreetCulture. The aim of this study is not to draw general conclusions which could be applied to other community stations in the Czech Republic. It rather offers a detailed insight into the...

Potential of Private Equity Funds in Czech Media Market
Dolejš, Martin ; Moravec, Václav (advisor) ; Šmíd, Milan (referee)
The growing importance of media economics has been recently highlighted by the on- going recession of economy, which has caused a reduction of budgets for advertising. This fact has reduced the revenues of media companies and urged their need for a change of business model. As well as other commercial entities, media companies need for their business a source of financing, which allows them to create a new company, expand or restructure. Besides traditional ways of financing such as bank loans, new ways of attracting capital recently emerged: private equity funds. These funds do not only provide a company with capital but also bring know- how and actively help to manage the company. The aim of this paper is to describe the private equity funds and media market in the Czech Republic and based on this analysis to discuss the best opportunities for a cooperation of media companies and private equity funds in the Czech Republic. The impact of private equity financing on a media company will be also analysed.
