Impact of core muscle activation on postural function in people with multiple sclerosis

This bachelor's thesis deals with the impact of activation of core muscles on postural function in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). The aim is to assess the effect of Acral coactivational therapy (ACT) on core activation. Furthermore, we will be tracking the suitability of using this method with different types of MS. The thesis has a practical and a theoretical section. The theoretical section deals with the illness of MS, the term core muscles is defined here along with its effect on postural function and lastly, there is a chapter addressing the ACT method. The practical section involved six patients with three types of MS. The effect of the ACT method is described using two case studies. The results confirming the effect of the therapy are presented in the form of tables and graphs. The effect on postural function was assessed by aspect examination while sitting, standing and in movement strategy tests and also by walking tests (Timed 25 foot walk test, Timed up and go test and one leg stand). Postural strategy of axial skeleton during phasic movement of upper limb

This bachelor's thesis is focused on the motion of spine that appears during phasic movement of upper extremities. Postural strategy is selected with the aim of minimizing impact of arising reactive forces and of change in position of center of mass on the balance and alignment of body's segments. This process prevents interference of the reactive forces with goal of the motor task. Further the thesis summarise underlying activation of postural muscles and consequences of low back pain on the postural control. Over a period of abduction of upper limbs was recorded movement of thoracic spine and sacral bone using inertial measurement units. External loading of the upper limbs was changed in different phases of the experiment. The measurement was performed with one healthy individual without history of low back pain or any other severe disease and one patient diagnosed with intermittent low back pain. Results of the experiment are coherent with preceding studies. The preparatory movement of the spine in the direction opposing the reaction forces is apparent from the record. With the amount of external loading the amplitude of the preparatory motion is increasing. However its characteristic remains unchanged.
Influence of airflow control with vocal cords on dynamic stand stabilization

Title: The effect of airway control on stance dynamic stability Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to find out whether and how will the influence of vocal cords modulation be manifested on the dynamic stabilization of the standing body during translational shifts of the supporting surface of different intensities and A-P directions. Thus, building on the findings of Massery et al (2013). Methods: The thesis has the character of qualitative research. The experiment was attended by 23 healthy probands, of which 7 men and 16 women aged 20-40 years. Spirometry was used to test the objectivity of airway airflow during breathing / phoning maneuvers with different vocal cords positioning and dynamic computer posturography using the Neurocom Smart Equi Test System and its Motor Control Test, which evaluated the effectiveness of automatic postural responses. We connected the posturograph with the spirometer using the Kistler accelerometer (type 8766A100BB). The course of the experiment was simultaneously recorded by a camera (GoPro Hero 7). Changes in posturography in pediatric patients with cerebral palsy after therapy by active videogame Nintendo Wii and Vojta reflex locomotion

Aim: The aim of this study was to determine the impact of therapy by active videogame Nintendo Wii and by Vojta reflex locomotion on a static and dynamic postural control at a group of children with mild cerebral palsy. Methodology: 14 children (from 6 to 18 years old) were randomly divided into two groups. Both groups received both therapies (active videogame therapy and Vojta reflex locomotion) with a 6 months gap, but in an opposite order. Posturographic measures were obtained before the start of the therapy, after therapy and 8 weeks after the end of the therapy. Results: After both therapies, there was a significant increase in the COP sway velocity in the mCTSIB subtest on a firm surface with closed eyes and the COP sway velocity in the mCTSIB subtest was reduced on a foam surface with closed eyes. Further, after both therapies, there was a significant reduction in the time required to perform the turnabout in SQT test. Other tests (LOS, RWS, WA, TW) and subtests did not change significantly. There was not a significant difference between therapies, but in the post- therapy tests, VRL had a greater tendency to maintain its effect 8 weeks after therapy. Title: Assessment of the effect of CDP training in patient after lower extremity amputation Objectives: The aim of this diploma thesis is to describe the influence of the individually set training programme on the computerized dynamic posturography (CDP) NeuroCom Smart EquiTest System (further referred to as EquiTest) independent of traditional therapeutic exercises in the patient after unilateral transfemoral amputation of the lower limb and to monitor the effect of this training on postural behaviour, ability of functional mobility and balance, frequency of falls and balance confidence in an individual after amputation. Methods: This is an experimental pilot case study that monitors the effect of an individually designed five-week training programme (with a frequency of exercises 2 times a week) on the EquiTest in one patient after unilateral transfemoral amputation of the lower limb. Examination of postural functions was performed by the EquiTest using SOT, MCT, and LOS tests. The ability of functional mobility and balance was tested using the functional Timed up and go test (TUG). The frequency of falls was detected from the proband's medical history. Title: Effect of excercise on postural stability parameters in senior's age Objectives: The aim of this study is to assess the effects of a regular group exercise on specific parameters of postural control in seniors. The intervention was composed based on a literary review and consisted of strength, flexibility and balance exercises. Methods: The sample consisted of nine women older than 65 years. To evaluate the differences in selected parameters of static postural control before and after intervention the pressure plates RS Footscan® Balance 7.6 second generation (RSscan International, Belgium) were used. Results: All og the measured parameters of static postural control improved, particularly when standing without visual control. Title: Postural stabilization and balance - theoretical background and definitions (literature review) Objectives: The aim of this theses is to investigate the present situation of theoretical background of postural stabilization and balance and find out the differences between both of these phenomenons. The theses should summarize the current literature including the newest studies. Furthermore, it discusses the most used computerized measurements methods for assessing balance and postural control. Methods: The theses has character of literature review. It is divided into several parts. The beginning introduces the theoretical background. The descriptive and analytical chapter discuss the most used computerized measurement methods for assessing balance and postural control. The discussion summarizes the current situation and results of the theses. Results: The total amount of the 104 studies was found, but only 12 of them met the criteria of the theses. Currently the most used methods for assessing balance and postural control are the computerized dynamic posturography and the visual feedback posturography. Development of somatosensory system in the context of the postural - locomotion system and the as sessment possibilities

The aim of the work is to describe the somatosensory system function development in the context of postural- locomotion function in preschool age and to describe the possible assessment of this function in preschool children, on the basis of research. The theoretical chapters deal with the development of the somatosensory system and the postural- locomotion system, also with the physical development of the preschool child. The practical part presents the outcomes of the research, namely how the development and usage of somatosensory signals by central nervous system is influenced by growth of the preschool child's organism. Lastly, the work presents the possibilities how to assess the preschool child's somatosensory system in common physioterapeutic practice. A preschool child's case report is included.
Slackline as a therapeutic possibility to influence postural stability

Objectives: To summarize knowledge about a control of posture, a balance training and a testing on balance platform. I investigate in experimental part of my thesis if slackline training will affect stabilography and differences in quantitative parameters will be found in a training group or a control group. Hypothesis: A specific slackline training positively affects stability which was measured in posturographic selected tests done by the training group. Methods: We test postural stability in control (10 persons) and training (10 persons) group in selected tests of stability. We used a balance platform for testing. The data were statistically analysed. Results: 4 weeks of intense slackline training result in improvement of postural control. That is support by the data of stabilometric examination. The results were just below statistical significance (p > 0.05). Conclusion: The results testify that slacklining can improve postural control in healthy subjects. The results were on the boundary of statistical significance in our intervention group.
The use of biofeedback for stability training in patients with degenerative cerebellar disease

The graduation thesis deals with the issue of balance disorders due to a cerebellar damage. It deals in detail with the treatment of patients suffering from degenerative cerebellar ataxia and with the use of biofeedback technologies as means of postural stability treatment. The aim of practical part of this work was to investigate the effectiveness of therapy using biofeedback for patients suffering from progressive ataxia due to cerebellar neurodegeneration. The research sample consisted of 8 patients. The patients underwent a total of 18 therapy sessions within a twelve-day rehabilitative program. The therapy contained a training of stability in various positions with the elimination of visual control. A device provided an additive information about head sways for the patients via a tongue electrotactile stimulation. The effects were assessed by means of posturography, functional clinical tests (BESTest, Dynamic Gait Index) and questionnaires (Activities-specific Balance Confidence Scale, Dizziness Handicap Inventory). Three assessments were performed: immediately before, immediately after, and 30 days after the rehabilitative program.
