Voňavková, Lucie ; Kabele, Jiří (advisor) ; Frantová, Veronika (referee)
In my thesis I deal with social integration of immigrants in the Czech Republic. This topic interests me primarily from the perspective of Czech students. In the theoretical part of my thesis first I define integration and its three main models, and describe their development. The next section I devote to social integration and its four dimensions. In the next two sections I describe migration development and related migration policy of the Czech Republic to outline the transformation of Czech Republic from emigration to immigration character. After defining the important concepts and theoretical foundations I present my research probe that explores the views of Kladno's students to immigrants, their cultural and interactive social integration. For this probe I selected quantitative survey. I wanted to involve as many students as possible. In this part of my work I introduce my research questions and hypotheses, methodological issues and describe the structure of the questionnaire. In this part are provided also previous studies. The main objective of this work is a cohort analysis of postponement and recuperation of fertility in the Czech Republic after 1960. Two methods were used for this purpose - basic benchmark model and relational model. The essence of the basic benchmark model is comparison of cohort cumulative fertility deviations between chosen benchmark cohort of women and other cohorts. The relational model is based on the cohort cumulative fertility deviations of cohorts from the chosen cohort related to the schedule of national standard deviations. The significant shifts in the timing of childbearing were revealed. While the first order is characterized by early fertility decline and subsequent significant fertility recuperation, the second order is characterized by a further decrease in fertility with slight recuperation. However, fertility of third and higher order continues to decline and has been found out. practically no recuperation. The second part of this work describes the respondents' answers to questions about timing of parenting. The main findings are that decisions about parenting is most influenced by whether respondents have a suitable partner, private housing and are financially secure. Most respondents postpone the birth of their first child due to the absence of a suitable partner, resp....

Germany in Czech Daily press: Stereotypes and the ,,Image of the Other'' in Comments and Opinions in Polls-Year 2017
Stojanovová, Kamila ; Jirák, Jan (advisor) ; Lütke Notarp, Ulrike (referee)
This thesis bases on an constructivist approach in media studies in context of the role of Germany as a civilian power and hegemon of the European Union and deals with the extent, to which arguments arising from the asymmetric partnership between the Czech Republic and Germany in the past ten years in terms of bilateral relations, foreign policy making of the both states and agenda such as different energy policy conceptions were being reflected in comments and opinions by the Czech daily press in connection with the German parliamentary elections in 2017. In addition to the theory of social construction of reality in this thesis, the concept of role theory serves to explain the role of Germany as a civilian power and the process of shaping its identity. The thesis presents the results of an research, in which a critical discourse analysis (CDA) aimed to formulate hypotheses reflecting the way of image-construction of Germany as "the other," in terms of van Dijk's ideological square "us versus them" and the presence of stereotypes in the comments and opinions in the Czech press. The formulated hypotheses later became the basis for a quantitative content analysis carried out on a research sample of 59 articles published in the daily Mladá fronta DNES, Právo, Lidové noviny and Hospodářské noviny.
A Survey of Czech Economists: What Do They Think?
Sikora, Jakub ; Janský, Petr (advisor) ; Cingl, Lubomír (referee)
Traditional consensus surveys show that economists continually cannot reach an agreement on certain key policies. According to the previous research, this is mostly attributable to the differences in the political views of the economists. This thesis aims to explore additional factors, which could potentially influence the level of consensus and what the underlying causes of different views are. The author conducted a web-based survey of Czech economists and received 116 responses; the questionnaire included questions related to the economic policy of the Czech Republic and to the background of the respondents. Subsequently, a detailed analysis of the results was performed and an econometric model was constructed. The author finds that differences in views are truly the main cause of dissent among economists while other factors mostly have a negligible impact. It seems that the tendency to have liberal (=laissez faire) opinions tends to go up with income, that women tend to be less liberal than men, and that economists raised in the countryside incline to have less liberal opinions. Moreover, it was shown that graduates from the University of Economics tend to have significantly more liberal views in comparison with the graduates from other universities, ceteris paribus. However, there is still much to be...
