Multicultural Aspects of Work of Slovak and Czech Teachers

3 Abstract and key words Abstract This thesis deals with current problems of multicultural aspects in the work of Slovak and Czech teachers, which are interfering with education with growing influence. I would like to define the main concept and conditions that lead to its creation. It will be followed by a description of the particular problems and biggest influences connected with multiculture and culture in general. After the theoretical part I would like to analyze historical events, which created biggest multicultural influences in former Czechoslovakia and in the modern independent republics. After dealing with historical facts, I will attempt to assess the present state and describe the most influencing minorities. I will look into legislative base and general government plans for education. In the end I would like to introduce some institutions dealing with these issues and describe abilities a teacher needs to possess to be able to lead multicultural groups and groups which are affected by aspects of other cultures every day. Quality of an everyday life of people with hearing impaired

1 Summary The thesis deals with the quality of everyday life of the hearing impaired. Part of the text defines the concept of the quality of life and points out the present common problems concerning the life of hearing impaired people. The issues of education, job opportunities, identity and personal realization of a hearing impaired individual in the context of the current view of the quality of life are highlighted. The text also focuses on the heterogeneity of the hearing impaired population and emphasizes their different status in mainstream society relating to the communication code they use. The goal of this thesis is to bring closer the problems of the quality of life of the hearing impaired, with the emphasis on the current problem areas which need further improvement. The practical part contains an analysis and evaluation of a questionnaire survay focused on specific areas of the quality of life quality of the hearing impaired - the qualification, employability, job opportunities and ways of communication. Integration of Migrants into the Czech Society

The aim of my diploma work is to study the subject of integration of foreigners into the Czech society. For that purpose I intend to use research questionnaires and to compare my results with results of other researches conducted by NGOs. Secondary aim is to map legal status of foreigners in the Czech Republic, historical reasons for migration and its development, and the composition of migrating population in Europe. Furthermore, I will focus on access to health and social insurance and to the health care system as well as on education and work opportunities which foreigners have in the Czech Republic.
Stumbling blocks for hard of hearing people living in a normally hearing population

Summary: The bachelor thesis deals with the life problems of hearing impaired people in normally hearing population. The paper describes general characteristics of individual hearing afflictions, the specifics related to the time when the impairment occurred, the social position of the hearing impaired person in the society and the basic principles and differentiations while communicating with such a person. The thesis further describes the specifics of communication systems - primarily concentrated on spoken language, Czech sign language and signed Czech. One chapter deals with specific social position of the hearing impaired people in their own community. The purpose of this thesis is to clarify the present situation of the hearing disabled population in the Czech Republic and to stress what could be further improved in their everyday life situation - beginning with their education, seeking suitable employment and solving their common problems. The practical part talks about individual personal needs and the everyday life pitfalls of the hearing impaired people. Foreigners in the Czech Republic

This dissertation entitled Foreigners in the Czech Republic deals with the issue of legal stay of migrants from the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, but also other countries, so called third countries, in the Czech Republic. The author uses his experience and knowledge gained when dealing and communicating with foreigners at the Section of Asylum and Migration Politics of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic, contact site in Příbram. The dissertation is divided into two parts. The first part is theoretical and it is based on studies of scientific literature and websites of Central Administration Offices. It contains a brief characteristics of multi-cultural and intercultural societies and focuses on the issue of communication. The main part focuses on the development of migration politics in the Czech Republic from its beginnings to date and legal aspects of foreigner residence in our country. The dissertation also lists and analyses conditions of all residence permits for individual groups of foreigners in the Czech Republic. The author elaborates on the Vietnamese community in connection with the questionnaire investigation. The practical part of the dissertation involves an analysis of foreigner residence from 1989 to date with an evaluation of statistical data and defines current changes in legislation related to foreigners along with new conditions of granting Czech citizenship. It also contains a questionnaire investigation with information on the Vietnamese minority, including reasons for residence of one of the largest minorities in the Czech Republic. One of the dissertation objectives is also to evaluate foreigner support provided by the state, but also non-profit organizations in order to propose strategies to improve migrants social status within the Czech majority society.
Terms of Developing the Cultural Identity of Minorities Members in the Czech Majority Culture

This disertation deals with Crisis elements in developing of cultural identity of members of minorities in the Czech majority group. The aim of my thesis is to find out what crises have occurred in Europe since the beginning of the 20th century, between the minority and the majority society until today, and what position takes the Czech society to minorities. The thesis is divided into 8 parts. The first chapter provides the basic term a culture, which describes its genesis and evolution.The second chapter explains the other terms such as cultural identity, Czech identity and character, further cultural pluralism, which subsumes cultural education and cultural crisis. The third chapter is devoted to prejudice. The fourth chapter describes multiculturalism, multicultural coexistence in the Czech Republic, its legislative page and there are defined the basic concepts linked to multiculturalism.The fifth chapter is focused on the eight widespread minority groups living in the Czech Republic.The sixth and the seventh chapter describe the European crisis evolution from the 20th century caused by the two world wars, to today's refugee crisis. The last eighth chapter is devoted to a public discourse, which is focused on the opinions of high-ranking Czech and Slovak politicians namely President of the Czech Republic Mr. Milos Zeman, the Czech Prime Minister, Mr. Bohuslav Sobotka, the political scientist Mr. Martin Konvička, the Slovak politician, Mrs. Magda Vašáryová and the former politician, Mr. Miroslav Sladek. Their different view on the situation is compared in the end.

The theoretical part explains the basic terms, briefly describes islam and brings the view of islam in the Czech Republic. The practical part is based on a quantitative research with use of an electronic questionnaire to determine attitudes, prejudices and knowledge of Brno citizens about muslim minority.

The goal of my diploma thesis is to find out, what kind of relations exists between minority and majority at Czech primary schools. Vietnamese minority was chosen for this thesis. We research differences in perception between girls and boys and between older and younger pupils. We also research differences between formal and informal situations. Another goal is to find out if pupils have some basic knowledge about native land of this minority. The thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The theoretical part includes the explanation of basic terms about minorities at all, historical and cultural information about Vietnam, information about life and distribution of Vietnamese in the Czech Republic and also information about Vietnamese pupils in Czech schools. In the practical part the questionnaire method is used for pupils and the interview is used for teachers. Results of these research studies are processed into graphs and tables, which are supplemented by relevant comments.
