Wearing Jewerly as a Performative Act

The concept or phenomenon od performativity occurs in different forms or terms in many humanity studies, especially in the second half of the 20th century. It interferes with linguistics, philosophy of thought, narratology, gender and cultural studies and even with epistemology and ethics. The notion of performativity appeared in philosophy and linguistics for the first time along with J. L. Austin's speech and perfomative acts. The first one describes the situation, the second one generates the situation. J. Derrida pointed out that the realization of speech acts and communication are not so obvious and depend on performance that maintains their status and identity. J. Derrida furthermore shows that performance does not only appear in the literary field; the law is for example performative in the sense that it sets itself up by a speech act. M. Foucault was interested of the role of performativity within a socially organized body and subjectivity. The performance of language and discourse is also essential in J. Butler's work which follows M. Foucault or J. Derrida and describes mechanisms for establishing gender subjectivity and physicality. Literary-didactic potential of Capek's Apocryphs

The main aim of this thesis is to show the didactic potential of the Apocryphal Tales by Karel Capek as well as to suggest the possible ways to include it in the high school literature education. The theoretical part of this thesis mainly deals with the author - Karel Capek and the concept of the Apocryph. These theoretical chapters study the Apocryphal Tales in detail, especially, focusing on the origin of the book and the existing editions, content and formal analysis, author's work with the intertexture and artistic progress used by Karel Capek. The special part is dedicated to the possible reasons of underestimation of the Apocyrph within author's other works. The practical part targets the didactical potential of the Apocryph. There are described the possibilities of the work with all the texts and possible ways how to work with the idea of Apocryph. The crucial part shows the detailed analysis of the didactical potential of seven selected texts integrated with extended commentary to the structure of this chapter. Another very important part pursues the verification of didactical potential of one of the Apocryph in the framework of secondary school education. Intertextuality in Game of Thrones series

This diploma thesis deals with intertextuality in Game of Thrones series from the academic perspective. The thesis presents a comprehensive summary of selected intertexts including their classification according to the different types of semantic connection. The theoretical frame is based on the theoretical approaches of leading intertextuality theorists in literature and culture in general. In addition, it reflects the position of Game of Thrones series in the cultural mainstream, both in regards of its popularity and dissapointment of viewers over the final series. Based on national and international critical reviews, this diploma thesis analyzes the genre changes in Game of Thrones and focuses especially on the shared features with the soap opera genre. The fantasy genre specifics and its possible influence on reality is also briefly described. The methodological part summarizes the analytical tools and formulates research questions. The diploma thesis "The linguistic analysis of headlines in daily papers Hospodářské noviny and Blesk" deals with the analysis of headlines in articles that include the commentary genre, specifically in Hospodářské noviny and Blesk. In this work, there is analyzed the form of headlines, how they are set up, and how they relate to the content of the message. The thesis consists of theoretical and analytical parts. The theoretical parts describe the analyzed material, the method of linguistic analysis is described there and also the characteristic of headlines. It is followed by analysis which is divided into two parts. In the first part, there is observed the difference of using the types of sentences and also the kinds of modality in the headlines of observed daily papers and the second part of analysis studies the general headlines and the occurrence of metaphorical expression. It analyses occurring cases of metaphor, metonymy, personification and paraphrase and compares, if there are some differences between the daily papers in observing phenomena. Semiotic analysis of dance-pop music in the year of 2013

This Magister thesis is an attempt at analysis of ten chosen dance-pop songs released in the year of 2013 using semiotic method. The purpose of this thesis is to find out whether the statement that this genre is isomorphic is right or wrong. The thesis is divided into two parts. In the theoretical part we will define the term popular music and its evolution. Then we will focus on functioning of semiotic method in the musical analysis and communication of music. The second part will be dedicated to semiotic analysis itself where we will analyze the structure and lyrics of chosen dance-pop songs and we especially will focus on the most used strings of musemes and intertextual quotation of other popular records. Intertextuality in academic writing: citation in soft and hard sciences

Based on a corpus analysis of 72 research articles, this thesis examines citation practices in four academic disciplines, two soft (linguistics and art history) and two hard (biology and astronomy). The first part provides quantitative results for the usage of two basic types, integral and non-integral citation. The non-integral type is preferred mainly in biology (91%), whereas astronomy and linguistics do not show such strong preference. In art history, both types are used with similar frequencies. The second part is focused on integral citation and examines instances of its sub-types (verb-controlling, naming and non-citation). The third part analyses the distribution of citations in the individual sections of research articles which shows to be dependent on the structural organization of the article. In general, two tendencies have been found: in articles with IMRD structure (biology and linguistics), citations occur mainly in the introduction and discussion. In astronomy and art history, citations are almost evenly distributed across the text. The last part of this thesis is focused on reporting verbs and their semantic classification (research, cognitive and discourse acts). Intercultural mass media communication and the search of perfect language

The aim of this diploma thesis is a qualitative analysis of a media dialogical network's extract regarding chemical attack in Syria on 21st August 2013. In spite of the fact that main social participant in the subsequent international conflict, representatives of United States of America and Syria, president Obama, Secretary of State Kerry on one side and president Assad on the other side, have never actually met face to face, mass media interconnected their reactions into a coherent dialogue between west and east civilization and they accepted it as a part of intercultural negotiation of different meanings and interpretations of reality within a global mass media discourse. Methodological apparatus of conversation analysis and membership categorization analysis provides a tool to observe sequential and categorization aspects of a dynamic intertextual process of specification and respecification of the core cultural and political values in context. Thanks to the term structured immediacy it was also possible to consider sequential ordering of antecendents of the event in historical continuum.
