Twitter as a source of journalistic work in selected online newspapers during the government crisis in May 2017

The bachelor thesis deals with an analysis of the use of information from the social networking service Twitter in the process of journalistic work. I study the employment of information from Twitter in news during the government crisis in May 2017. For the analysis, I chose three online news sites: Aktuálně.cz, iDnes.cz and iRozhlas.cz. The goal of this thesis is to find out to what extent and in which way was the information from Twitter involved in the coverage of the government crisis in the chosen news sites. Another goal is to analyse the selection of sources from Twitter. The research follows a method of quantitative content analysis, which allows us to describe an exact extent of the involvement of information from the social network in the analyzed content. The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis characterizes the network digital media and describes the processes of digital mediamorphosis and convergence, which are related to the rise of the so-called new media. The theoretical part then introduces the social network site Twitter, its establishment and principles of its functioning, with a special focus on the role of Twitter as a source of journalistic work. Czech Shovelware: from Czech Print Media to News Servers or Conversely

This thesis investigates the trend of reusing the content of printed media in their on-line counterparts, based on several selected Czech national newspapers (Mladá fronta DNES, Lidové noviny, Právo) and their corresponding news servers (idnes.cz, lidovky.cz, novinky.cz) over the course of one constructed week in 2015. The theoretical section examines the interrelatedness of printed and on-line media, the impact of digitization on the transformation of the journalistic profession, and its influence on the content and recipients of media communications. The fundamental questions posed by this research are as follows: What percentage of the printed content is reused in the newspaper's corresponding on-line version and vice versa, and which of the selected media reuse the most content? The research operates with three initial hypotheses regarding the quantity and frequency of content conversion: printed journals reuse their content in on-line news servers at a rate of up to 5%, news servers reuse their content in printed journals at a rate of up to 10%, and the practice of shovelware is most frequently employed by the periodicals Mladá fronta DNES and Právo. Importance of video content on Czech news sites

The importance of video content in Czech internet news has been steadily rising for almost two decades, media houses are creating and expanding separate video-making departments and investing in equipment needed for their creations. News websites place considerable emphasis on the production of their own audiovisual content, which has become so common that the reader has come to expect it. The work brings a comprehensive description and evaluation of the video content of three major Czech news sites: iDnes.cz, Novinky.cz and Aktuálně.cz. It describes the processes, techniques and tools used in video journalism and gives an overview of the video production of these three news sites and insight into the relevance of video for Czech online news. The practical part draws on a case study of the selected websites, which focuses on the individual editorial environment and their common practice. It includes a quantitative content analysis that answers the research question: "What is the current form of video content on news sites iDnes.cz, Novinky.cz and Aktuálně.cz?" Visual presentation of american presidential elections 2016 in Czech online media

The thesis Visual presentation of american presidential elections 2016 in Czech online media focuses on visual presentations of Americal presidential elections in various Czech online media. The first part of the thesis introduces the basic principles of political communication, trends in political marketing and the development of the use of photographs in election campaigns. The following part of the thesis describes the characteristics of online news services with focus on processing accompanying photographs. At the end of the theoretical part, two representatives of online media iDNES.cz and Blesk.cz are shortly characterized. The applied part uses the quantitatively- qualitative content analysis accompanied by in-depth interviews with representatives of Czech media to narrowly research into photographic materials with the topic of Americal presidential elections 2016 used by the news servers. The gathered data are not only compared between the servers but also before and after the revelation of the election results. At the end of the analysis, the overall photographic coverage of the American presidential elections 2016 is compared between the news services.

The growth in importance of the media social networking on the example of the 2015 IIHG Ice Hockey World Championship

This bachelor's thesis discusses the media utilisation of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter during a top worldwide sporting event. The theoretical part deals with the new media family, then with Facebook and Twitter, their history and operating principles. Besides the methodology, it also presents the 2015 IIHF World Championship, being the main subject of the social media networking. The content analysis of the social newtorks posts had been chosen as the research method for this thesis. The objective is finding out how these three chosen Czech media - Česká televize, news server iDnes.cz and Deník Sport were using the two social networks to inform the public about the tournament progress. The second goal was to compare the account contents of the three media to the two Czech IIHF Organization Committee channels and find out about the mistakes the media made while posting on social networks. The shovelware phenomenon is analysed extensively as one of the most used negative elements.

The media Coverage of Iveta Bartošová's Death on Selected Websites

The aim of this paper is to describe media coverage of a suicide that Iveta Bartošová, famous Czech singer, committed the 29th April 2014 in railway in Prague-Uhříněves. It compares the so-called conservative press - Aktuálně.cz, Novinky.cz, Lidovky.cz and iDNES.cz - and the yellow press represented by Super.cz, Extra.cz and Blesk.cz. The paper covers a period of time from the suicide to the singer's funeral which took place the 12th May 2014 and it examines in what way and with what means all mentioned websites informed their readers, how many articles were published, what were the topics of each website or what mistakes (grammatical or any other) did they do. It looks for differences not only between the conservative and the yellow press, but in within those two groups of medias. It also describes if any conservative website went towards tabloidization which means if it used any practices of the yellow press in its work or if it was interested in similar topics as the yellow press was. Structures of Public Communication at the News Server

This thesis has an aim to bring theoretical and empirical knowledge, which can be used to improve quality of multi-agent based modelling of public opinion. In the theoretical part is introduced the analytical sociology as methodological basis and the theory of the public opinion process as substantive basis. Based on these theories is defined the aim of the empirical work: explore the stability of communication structures leading to emergence of mutual awareness of actors in the public debate. For the research are used news comments and its rating by other users from the news server iDNES.cz. The data are analyzed using social network analysis. It is revealed that a number of characteristics is applicable to multi-agent model. At the same time work brings interesting findings about the internet discussion and public communication. The main empirical finding is that despite large turn-over of discussing individuals, communication structures remain stable over time.

Media representation of social inadaptability - critical discourse analysis

The theme of this thesis is a conceptualization of media discourse of social inadaptability on example of news reporting on the internet portal iDNES.cz. I am analysing various ideological resources and social conditions which may influence the existence and prevailing of this discourse type. My goal was also to answer the question which social groups and individuals are associated with this label and what characteristics are attributed to them by journalists. The survey examined media texts from 2006 to 2009 within theoretical and methodological framework of the critical discourse analysis by Norman Fairclough.

The moderation and regulation of discussion forums on the Czech news websites

With the so called Second internet era and the creation of Web 2.0, the amount of the internet users, who participate in creating its contect, has rapidly expanded. Open communication between the recipients and the producers of the media messages, and the wider possibilities to give a feedback as an online media reader are typical for this ongoing period. One of the ways, how to give a feedback, are the discussion forums below the articles. These discussion forums has changed in recent years and most of the Czech online media have started to moderate them or control them. The discussion forums are also not any longer anonymous. In this thesis, I am describing the discussion forums of the three most read Czech news websites - Novinky.cz, iDNES.cz and Aktuálně.cz. On the base of the analysis of the rules of a discussion and the interviews with the discussion administrators, I am describing, how many people in these media organizations work as the discussion administrators and how they moderate and control the posts. I am also dealing with the rules for the people, who want to také part in the discussion forums, whether they can be anonymous and if there are any specified rules, how to behave.
