This thesis focuses on the current state of art in mindfulness research and is divided into two parts. The first part identifies how mindfulness influences attention, with effects on functional domains of cognition, emotion, behaviour and physiology. Ultimately, impact of these domains in key workplace outcomes, including performance, relationships, and well-being. The second part focuses on analysing outcomes of research based on free associations connected with the term mindfulness. This research is based on the mind mapping method.
Mindfulness-based interventions in clinical practice

This bachelor's thesis deals with mindfulness-based programs, which are now used in medicine. The theoretical part focuses on their, description, published clinical outcomes, research, mechanisms of action, advantages, pitfalls and their use in clinical practice. The empirical builds on the theoretical part and proposes a research project in the form of a double-blinded randomized controlled study of the influence of MBSR on variables of mental and physical health, with the application of an active control group. Discussion includes reflections on the direction of future research and presents information on current trends, opportunities and challenges facing these interventions. The psychology of happiness: interventions Influencing happiness

The thesis deals with the topic of happiness and happiness increasing intervention strategies. The theoretical chapters discuss different approaches to defining the term and they are inclined to the view that the term reflects the subjective satisfaction with life of an individual. The thesis further deals with a number of major theories of happiness, analyzes its relationship to other variables, such as heredity, health, money or work and it gives an overview of the best known intervention strategies affecting experiencing happiness in the end of the theoretical part of it. Empirical research is aimed at testing the effectiveness of the chosen strategy - attentivenes - on the changes in experiencing happiness. Although the statistical analysis does not confirm the validity of the hypothesis of an increase in subjective levels of happiness after applying the intervention, the results tend to indicate the effectiveness of the method. The Concept of Mindfulness and Its Application to Work with Children

The thesis summarizes current findings about mindfulness and presents specifics of and the prospects for work with children and adolescents in that context. It addresses certain programs based on mindfulness used in clinical practice as well as in a school setting, along with a brief evaluation of studies that monitor the impact of these programs on various aspects of child mental health. The empirical part of the study describes quantitative research into the extent of mindfulness in children by way of the Child and Adolescent Mindfulness Measure (CAMM-17) and a comparison group of children with ADHD and intact sample. On the basis of the Mann-Whitney U Test, it was found that the extent of mindfulness in ADHD children does not differ significantly from the intact sample. Statistically, older children scored significantly higher than younger children in ADHD sample as well as in the learning disabilities group and in comparison of older and younger boys. The last part presents a program proposal for cultivating mindfulness in children with ADHD. Mindfulness in homosexually oriented individuals

The focus of this work is to bring the idea of mindfulness closer, in terms of connection with other personality traits. Additionally it highlights the use of mindfulness in psychotherapy practice, specifically in regard to homosexually orientated clients. The study summarizes the main findings on the mindfulness phenomenon, highlighting the important aspects of adopting a new identity within this demographic. The study also monitors the connection of coming out process with particular aspects of mindfulness. In the empirical section the results of the FFMQ questionnaire, in which participated 294 persons of both male and female gender and of both heterosexual and homosexual orientation are compared using quantitative methods. By means of statistical analysis of variance (ANOVA) it was determined that the homosexually orientated do not differ significantly from those of heterosexual orientation. Furthermore there was no significant statistical difference in mindfulness between genders within the research sample. Mindfulness and mindfulness-based treatment approaches

Theoretical section focuses on the concept of mindfulness, its historical background, variety of theoretical approaches and definitions of mindfulness. On this basis I provide own definition of mindfulness. Then, I present an overview of the features and characteristics of mindfulness, its applications in clinical environment, mindfulness-based approaches, effective therapeutic factors, and also its use with specific mental disorders. I also address neural correlates of mindfulness, developmental aspects of mindfulness and overview of measurement methods. Empirical section consists of standardization of Five Facets Mindfulness Questionnaire for the Czech population and verification of its factor model. Further I monitored the relation of mindfulness to chosen demographic variables. Results showed modestly significant correlation with age and education, and independence of sex and overall mindfulness score. In four subscales of the questionnaire, however, sexes differed. The hypothesis that mindfulness is related to profession was also confirmed. Highest mindfulness scores were reached by helping professions, especially psychotherapists, lowest scores were reached by technical professions.
