Czech Language in the L-Pack

( Abstract(( This diploma thesis pursues an analysis of a language component in a didactical material called L-pack which is dedicated to A2 level migrants according to Common European Framework of Reference. This document projects an inner differentiation of the Czech language as well as communication needs of a focus group. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the importance of a situation in communication for didactical purposes considering the factual usage. In three chapters is focussed on pragmatic aspects of language behavior, to the choice of language and stylistic tools according to a character of a situation and monitors different approaches to communication situations to achieve optimal development of student' s communication competence. The methodological part presents the target and the work order and describes the didactical materials that have been analyzed. The analytical part of this thesis follows implementation manners of the L-pack in several dimensions. Selected cases are reviewed not only with respect to second language educational specialists but also with regard to the linguistic awareness of the Czech native speakers. Language and Ageing - On the Role of Second Language in Cognitive Training in People with Dementia

The thesis explores the influence of cognitive training carried out in a second language on the elderly suffering from dementia. Having described the basic anatomy of the nervous system, neurolinguistic theories as well as ageing and having dealt with cognitive aspects in relation to language learning, the thesis aims at performing an experiment that should help dementia clients to broaden their vocabulary in a second language. This is to be achieved through individual therapy- like units using worksheets created specifically for these purposes. The results indicate that cognitive training in a second language is beneficial to dementia clients and could be used more extensively. Education students-foreigners at Czech primary schools

The thesis is focused on several areas related to the education of foreigners in primary schools. The theoretical part of the thesis focuses on particular areas of children bilingualism and multicultural education. The legislative framework and the statistics of foreigners in the Czech Republic, which is closely related to the area is deeply analyzed. The last chapter discussed options and recommendations to assist the integration of foreign pupils in primary schools. The research part of the thesis deals with the approaches and experience of teachers with education of pupils-foreigners, the relationship with the children-foreigners to the particular school in the Czech Republic and their level of Czech language and attitude towards it. Content and Language Integrated Learning with ICT using the Interactive Whiteboard

The main goal of the diploma thesis "Content and Language Integrated Learning with ICT using the Interactive Whiteboard" is to provide a comprehensible assessment of the potential benefits of employing CLIL during ICT lessons. The thesis focuses on the recent history of CLIL and its roots as well as the official support it receives from the European Union. This work also takes a look at the advantages CLIL has to offer and why anybody should consider using it. This work goes on to suggest some basic questions a teacher should ask him/herself when considering whether to employ CLIL or not. The Practical Part is focused on creating a series of activities that may serve as an example of using CLIL during ICT lessons while making use of the Interactive Whiteboard, one of the new tools that is available to an increasing number of schools. The Practical Part also includes sample files to be opened on the Interactive Whiteboard, the age range of learners for whom the activity is intended, their learning context, aims and expected learning outcomes for each activity as well as the kinds of tasks included in each activity and the expected problems. A Contrastive Approach in Teaching Czech Language to Czech Deaf

This work deals with the use of contrastive approach in teaching Czech language to Czech deaf, with positives and negatives of this approach and with its conditions of the use. The introduction described a process of language acquisition for hearing and deaf children and there is also described the difference between acquiring the first language and learning a second / foreign language. The work also denotes the causes of low literacy of Czech deaf and the possibility of solving this problem. The inclusion of contrastive approach to teaching could be the solution. This work deals with the issue of teaching Czech language to Czech deaf and with the importance of sign language in this teaching process. There is described a process of language acquisition (for hearing and deaf children) and there is also described the difference between acquiring the first language and learning a second / foreign language. The work also denotes the causes of low literacy of Czech deaf and the possibility of solving this problem. Only a major change in the way of teaching Czech language can be the solution. Czech is a second language for Czech deaf and if we want it to be taught effectively, it must be taught in the contrast with the Czech sign language. Romance influence on English Wordstock

Title of the bachelor thesis: Romance Influence on the English Wordstock Key words: History of English, borrowing, loan word, lexicalization, language acquisition, second language, language interference. Abstract The bachelor thesis Romance Influence on the English Wordstock is concerned with the Romance impacts on English, which is most noticeable in its wordstock, and simultaneously it tries to find out what the awareness of learners of English of these influences is. The practical part is based on research in the form of a questionnaire which was distributed among English students of the Faculty of Education, Charles University in Prague and which consists of four exercises where various Romance specifics can be found. The research revealed that students do not have a particular cognizance of Romance influence but it showed that the longer the students study English, the fewer problems they have with the words coming from Romance languages. It also studied whether students who know the French or Latin language have an advantage when acquiring the English vocabulary. The result affirms that these people may profit from their knowledge when learning English expressions similar to the French ones but they should already be confident in the language, otherwise the superficial knowledge of it can...

To general principles of acquiring foreign language by child

The submitted M.A. thesis builds on the B.A. thesis entitled On general questions of psycholinguistics and develops factual points of departure related to the topic of adoption of a foreign language by a child. A part of the theoretical section is the definition of basic concepts in the field of psycholinguistics, in particular developmental psycholinguistics, and the design of the notion of adoption of a foreign language by a child. The primary goal of the study is to provide a comparative listing of the individual theories of adoption of a foreign language by a child, not only at the level of the mother tongue, but at the level of a second language as well. The basic theoretical concepts of adoption of a foreign language are based on linguistic, psychological and especially psycholinguistic scientific research. The other goals of the thesis include the definition of extensive variable determinants which participate in the process of adoption of a foreign language by a child and also influence the resultant level of adoption of a non-native language. In the concluding part of the theoretical compilation, space is provided for the psycholinguistic aspects of adoption, such as enunciative, speech and written displays of a foreign language. The empirical part is built up in a way so that it highlights the applicability of the process of adoption of a foreign language by a child in a natural environment, i.e. in a bilingual family environment where the resultant process is the most effective and verifiable. For this reason, it is not possible to talk about learning a foreign language but rather about the adoption of a second language.
