Out-of-Classroom Chemistry Essentials Education as a Mean of Scientific Literacy Development
Čábelová, Simona ; Rusek, Martin (advisor) ; Bílek, Martin (referee)
This thesis deals with the aspect of outdoor education of chemistry in the context of the natural science literacy concept. This concept is approximated here in association with the curricula documents for secondary education level and the Contextual model of learning. Based on the description of individual contexts of the aforementioned model, an alternative variant of an excursion to the Prague Waterworks Museum in Podolí is proposed. The practical part focuses on the comparison of the efficiency of the "classic" conception of a museum excursion and the alternative approach mentioned previously. The whole concept adheres to the pedagogical experimental scheme. The comparison is achieved through three testings in two groups. The first, control group, had a standard excursion led by a museum guide. The second, experimental group, had an excursion led in the proposed alternative approach. Based on the first tests - the pretests, the starting knowledge of the pupils is analyzed. The second testing is executed as posttests right after finishing each excursion. The third testing is a retention test one month after the excursion. Test results were analyzed using statistical methods. The results of the analysis point to the considerable importance of the way the excursion is led and to the great benefit of...
Scientific literacy and its development by using learning tasks in Chemistry for ISCED 2 level
Distler, Petr ; Teplý, Pavel (advisor) ; Klečková, Marta (referee) ; Čtrnáctová, Hana (referee)
The objective of the dissertation was to assess the suitability of the scientific literacy development by using learning tasks in chemistry classes for ISCED 2. By comparing the learning tasks types in commercial workbooks and in the international assessment PISA, a significant difference in their structure was found out. Although the Czech Republic has undertaken to participate in the PISA project, Czech teachers have a different type of teaching tasks commonly available in their workbooks than the pupils afterwards solve in the PISA project. PISA's released and author's learning tasks were compiled into authentic workbooks. They were used in chemistry classes during the school year 2016/2017. Based on the pupils' results in the final assignments, all groups of grammar school pupils from experimental groups achieved better results in solving multicomponent learning tasks than the control group. However, the results of elementary schools pupils were significantly worse at final test scores than at initial ones, which was explained by the entire loss of their motivation to study. Pupils rated motivation to work with multicomponent tasks above average. They were fully aware of the importance and usefulness of solving multicomponent learning tasks, and, therefore, they solved them with proper...
Science tasks of PISA 2015 research - analysis of Czech pupils` results
Pschotnerová, Petra ; Mandíková, Dana (advisor) ; Blažek, Radek (referee)
This bachelor thesis is concerned with the results of Czech pupils in the science tasks of PISA 2015 examination. A deeper analysis of 15-year-old pupils` results in scientific literacy is carried out in this thesis. Introductory chapters are devoted to the characteristics of PISA research, its methods and the way the results are presented. The thesis contains the definition of PISA research and briefly shows the conceptual framework of scientific literacy for the need of PISA research. The following chapters are devoted to tasks and test questions used in PISA research, tests, the type of responses and the methods of their evaluation. The summary of the number of tasks used in particular assessments is also listed in this thesis. Previous bachelor theses written by Kateřina Bašátková and Karel Havlíček are extended by this work with the results in science tasks from PISA 2012 and PISA 2015 researches. The work maps Czech pupils` results from year 2000 until 2015 and summarises the results with respect to competencies, knowledge and systems. All results are compared with the results of other OECD countries. The most important part of this work is the penultimate chapter. The results of different types of tasks are discussed in this chapter as well as the questions with the highest and lowest score....
Developing scientific literacy in pre-primary education through environmental themes
Štáhlová, Kateřina ; Janoušková, Svatava (advisor) ; Pumpr, Václav (referee)
1 Abstract Thesis Woods as an educational space? examines using quantitative methods the differences between children in ordinary kindergartens and forest kindergartens, and it does so according to formation of individual components of scientific literacy or knowledge of selected terms (concepts) in its empirical part. For this purpose it creates evaluation model of scientific literacy of preschool children (didactic test) based on the example of processing a particular topic - Forest. The topic is set into the concept of pedagogy, developmental psychology, and social ecology. The theoretical part discusses the issue of scientific literacy, especially in the context of preprimary age. From the perspective of developmental psychology are furthemore described cognitive developmental characteristics of preschool age in their basic level. This part also focuses on strategic documents of (permanent) sustainable development. The thesis gives a first interesting insight into the problem and reveals a serious facts such as that children from ordinary kindergartens confuse natural objects under artificial objects also are less oriented in inanimate components, than the children of the forest kindergartens. Keywords: Scientific Literacy, Pre-Primary Education, Sustainable Development, Forest Kindergarten, Framework...
The position of the chemical experiment at the time of ICT - aluminum and its compounds
Sloup, Radovan ; Čipera, Jan (advisor) ; Havlíček, David (referee) ; Šmejkal, Petr (referee)
The main goal of the thesis is to describe a position of the real experiment in chemistry at the beginning of the 21 century and to contribute to solution of speculations if this didactic tool is or is not at current schools such a rarity as it's often described. The starting point of the thesis is extensive research of the literature related to history of natural science literacy which is condition not only for the right experiment interpretation but also of its suitable usage in the lessons. The theoretical part observes also the ensuring of the chemical experiment in the curricular documents and its position in the chemistry teaching in recent past. The experiment is a dynamic visualia therefore the visualias are classified in particular part of the thesis and their occurrence and function are described - in today's information society, chemistry textbooks, as a part of hypermedia programs for chemistry teaching and in lessons in general. The thesis focuses partly on hypermedia programs, especially then on materials for chemistry teaching that proved to be helpful in e-learning. Through the questionnaire inquiry at primary and secondary schools in Czech Republic were discovered not merely material also personal options of the schools and chemistry teachers in relation to the experiment...

Science skills of 15-years old students in the Czech Republic in the international survey PISA
Petrášek, Pavel ; Chvál, Martin (advisor) ; Mandíková, Dana (referee)
Title: Scientific Literacy of 15-years old pupils in the Czech Republic in the International Survey PISA Author: Pavel Petrášek Department: Department of Physics Education Supervisor: PhDr. Martin Chvál, Ph.D., Department of Physics Education Abstract: My thesis focuses on the results of 15-year old pupils in selected tasks of the international survey PISA. It contains a brief introduction to the methodology of a survey and its realization in our conditions. The thesis presents relations between pupils` success and other variables found out in additional questionnaires, such as sex, parents` education, relation to mathematics or pupils` social and economical backgrounds. Besides the thesis contains the comparison of the importance of individual variables and results from the years 2000 and 2003. The thesis can be used as a theme for further research of mentioned relations and their comparison in a longer time horizon with other results. Electronic form of my thesis is on enclosed CD. Keywords: tests, international survey, scientific literacy
