Stigmata and stigmatized persons in the Middle Age

(in English): The diploma thesis examines phenomenon of stigmas and stigmatised persons in the Middle Ages. This diploma thesis contains of three parts. The goal of first part is description of Crucifixion symbolism from beginning of Christianity up to first stigmas about Francis of Assisi from 1224. Main part presents its own phenomenon of stigmas: their definition, base and reception in religious and expert field. Final part focuses on significant middle-aged holders of stigmas and analysis of their hagiography. "To be a tree where there is no hubbub": Poetics of Solitude in the Works of Ludmila Macešková

The thesis follows the line of solitude in the poetry of Jan Kameník (which is the pen name of Ludmila Macešková). It notices the impossibility of classifying him into the literary groups active from 40's to 60's. It also observes his dramatic way which was motivated by desire to find the expression for his spiritual experience. First, the thesis focuses on places which illustrate the phases during the way. Then it centres on the poetic language which moves to the boundaries of communicability. Last, it comes to the touch like specific revelation of name where all differences are overcame.

It compares most old mysticism texts with their occurrence at a later literature. It focus on mystical groups and theirs incidence. ThDr. Marketa Langer Praha, 2018 THE THEOLOGICAL LEGACY OF CZECH MODERNISM IN THE LIFE AND WORK OF FRANTIŠEK BÍLEK ABSTRACT This thesis looks at the life and work of the artist Frantisek B lek in relation to the theological legacy of Czech Catholic modernism at the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth century over three chapters. Its objective is to answer three questions: Was the artist the mystic he was perceived to be at the time? Can he be termed a modernist? What were his reasons for joining the Czechoslovak Church when it was founded in 1920? The study uses the method of hypotheses which are stated in advance in the questions posed, and then subsequently tested. Another method used is an analysis and comparison of the approach and attitudes of Czech society to the artist during his life. The introductory chapter describes the study's key indicators with a brief description of the issues, and also the form and structure used. Part A looks at the environment during the emergence of modern Europe; in particular the conditions giving rise to the struggle for modernism, the circumstances of the First Vatican Council, the Czech Catholic reform movement and the European modernism movement in relation to the central subject of this thesis, artist Frantisek B lek. Problem of Philosophy in Arabic Medieval Thinking

Medieval philosophy in the Arabic world has sought to harmonize the Greek philosophic tradition with the Islamic religion. Many rulers, scholars and theologians were against this intellectual approach and defend the Islam from the philosophers. The position of philosophy and its followers in the Arabic realm was therefore uneasy. Many scholars had to hide their opinions between the lines and avoid to doing philosophy publicly. Alongside the unfriendly environment, the position of philosophy in the Arabic society was also determined by common notion of scholars, that the revealing of the philosophical thoughts can be harmful for uneducated citizen, as well as influenced by mysticism. The aim of this thesis is to summarize the main philosophical approaches responding to the problematic position of philosophy in the Arabic world. Crucial will be the philosophy of solitary by Ibn Bajja, where the author seeks to bond tight the philosopher's life with the city and thus present a new role of philosopher in the Arabic society. TITLE: Islamic Art AUTHOR: Petra Šuková, Bc. DEPARTMENT: Department of Art Education SUPERVISOR: Viktor Čech, Mgr. ABSTRACT: Object of this thesis is an investigation of islamic art in a context of islamic doctrine with stress on elements which islam has in common with the jewish-christian culture, which was an inspiration for islam as well. The thesis compares certain trends and characters in these monoteistic religions with reference to mutual influences between western and eastern culture, which have been continuing even nowadays. The main object of interest is a human body and its carnality as well as the stereotypes we have about this topic. These stereotypes and prejudices towards islam and islamic art are also the issue for the practical and didactic part, when pupils will have an opportunity to try ornamental and nonfigurative way of depiction as well as a figurative and contemporary islamic art influenced by the western culture.
