Simanová, Lenka ; Riegl, Martin (advisor) ; Kuľková, Miroslava (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyse a perspective of acquiring an independence of Iraqi Kurdistan. With an application of normative theories of secession a first objective of the thesis is to prove that independence demands from leaders of Iraqi Kurdistan are really justified and that an autonomous region really meets the requirements of normative theories and so it is entitled to the secession. Subsequently, in order to find out the perspective of acquiring the independence of this autonomous unit in relations to selected regional and international political agents, the thesis applies a theory of Milena Sterio, American professor of law. This theory emphasizes the role of 'greatpowers' in a process of achieving the independence of states. The theory of Milena Strio is based on a precondition that a political unit trying to acquire its independence will not be successful in its aim until it gets an approval from the most powerful regional and international political agents. In order to come to a conclusion, it was necessary to look at a stand of the eight most important regional and international superpowers to this issue of the independence of Iraqi Kurdistan. The thesis also deals with a character of a recognition regime of states. It points out the current recognition of states is...

Štaif, Vít ; Voráček, Emil (advisor) ; Eichler, Jan (referee) ; Anděl, Petr (referee)
An Abstract The text focuses on the aim of the state politics to gain the position of the first global hegemony after the end of the Cold War. It observes, with the regard to the wide-ranging influence of the USA at that time, and to the important American visions about its character, especially their particular decisions. It tries to describe the way, which the other influential participants of the global politics, the states as well as those of other kind, used to express their reactions to this activity, and their relation to the USA, the strongest contender in the effort to acquire the first global hegemony. The power contest is here mainly introduced by the insight into the course of the conflicts, which they, after the end of the Cold War, faced and influenced. The text concentrates on those political and security challenges with, apart from the policies of the USA, the strong presence of the intervention of the international organizations, above all the UN, the NATO and the EU, or of the occassionally created alliances. The prospects of hegemonial possibilities is presented in the conclusion.
Analysis of the geopolitical relationships between Iraqi Kurdistan, regional and global actors
Sommer, Filip ; Jelen, Libor (advisor) ; Lepič, Martin (referee)
Iraqi Kurdistan represents an entity capable of acting independently in international relations. This thesis evaluates its geopolitical position based on an analysis of relations with regional and global actors operating in the region. Iraq, Turkey, Iran and Syria are considered as regional actors because they are inhabited by a significant Kurdish population and can thus influence the possible formation of Iraqi Kurdistan. United States and the Russian Federation are considered as global players. The analysis examines the statements of the top representatives of all these entities and is carried out in the period from 2013 to 2017. Its aim is to find out how the geopolitical situation of Kurdistan in Iraq has changed as to the major events that have taken place in these years. These include the arrival of the Islamic State in the region in June 2014 or the declaration of the Kurdish referendum on independence in September 2017.

The bachelor thesis "The US and Iran - The Iranian nuclear agreement" examines the history and circumstances under which the Iranian nuclear deal (JCPOAR) was created and puts its influence into the broader context of the geopolitical security environment of the Middle East. The bachelor thesis analyzes the main fields of American and Iranian interest in the region, with an emphasis on the situation in postwar Iraq and the temporary conditions under which these interests developed. Their end goal concluded that conflict was not the preferable option for both actors, focusing on the importance of preconditions, namely sanctions and Iranian internal dynamics of accepting the diplomatic means in dealing with the Iranian nuclear issue. It tackles the Iranian network of influence in the region and observes wishes and strategies of American President Barack Obama towards regional stability and the Iranian nuclear agreement. The thesis, in a broader sense, describes also the problem of nuclear nonproliferation and international multilateral diplomacy, contributing to a better understanding of the realities of the Middle East, its geopolitics, and the role of Iran and the US from 2003 until present day.

Relations of the Turkish Justice and Development Party with the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government and the Syrian Democratic Union Party between 2011 and 2014
Gümplová, Anna ; Aslan, Emil (advisor) ; Horák, Slavomír (referee)
This thesis compares relations between the Turkish ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) the Syrian Democratic Union Party (PYD) and the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) between 2011 and 2014 on the background of its Kurdish minority policy and approach to the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK). Since AKP came to power the governmental approach towards so called "Kurdish question" have changed and it started to be more open to negotiations with the PKK. However, there were major changes in the AKP's stance on the "Kurdish question" during the peace processes with the PKK. In 2011 the AKP established closer, especially economic, relations with the KRG. This profitable partnership included a cooperation regarding the approach towards the PKK. In 2014 problems arose when Turkey almost did not help KRG militarily in its fights against ISIS. Turkey's approach towards the PYD was from its conception hostile, which has even worsened after the launch of the Syrian civil war, because PYD was getting stronger politically and militarily. The thesis describes different approaches of the AKP towards KRG and PYD and substantiates it on the background of the issue of the Kurdish question.

The connectivity of an American invasion to Iraq in 2003 in relation to the current spread of the Islamic State in the Middle East region
Vejvodová, Nela ; Bečka, Jan (advisor) ; Raška, Francis (referee)
Islamic radicalism is currently one of the most debated topics worldwide. We got into a new era, which started at the beginning of the century by attack on World Trade Center in 2001 - later President Bush declared war on global terrorism. Organization of the Islamic State is a new form of radicalism, beyond both his cruelty, and even the number of foreign fighters who have joined them. It poses a huge threat to the fragile stability in the region and, by extension, in Europe. In the first part of my thesis entitled "The connectivity of an American invasion to Iraq in 2003 in relation to the current spread of the Islamic State in the Middle East region" I'm dealing with the US invasion of Iraq and in the second part I'm describing the emergence of the terrorist organization al-Qaeda, the Islamic State afterwards. In the third section I'm analyzing the various factors and specific events that, in result, provide an answer to the question whether the invasion of Allied troops under the command of Americans is the only cause of the current crisis in Iraq, by extension, the entire Middle East region.
