Methods of measurement of intelligence in adult subjects
Chvátalová, Veronika ; Flegr, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Lindová, Jitka (referee)
In my work I focus on intelligence testing in adult subjects. The work aims to introduce to the readers six intelligence tests that might be administered both individually and in a group. Besides intelligence tests measuring complex intelligence abilities I would like to mention also a partial test measuring nonverbal abilities. Characteristics, structure and description of tasks will be specified for each test as well as psychometric properties and usage. Advantages and disadvantages of each test will be evaluated in the end. Where possible, I present also the usage of each test in the Czech Republic or in Europe.
Influence of latent toxoplasmosis on intelligence of infected subjects
Chvátalová, Veronika ; Flegr, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Lindová, Jitka (referee)
There remain inconsistencies in the literature concerning the intelligence of subjects infected with latent toxoplasmosis. The main goals of this work are to find out whether, a) latent toxoplasmosis influences the intelligence of infected subjects and b) whether Rh negative and Rh positive subjects respond to the infection in different ways. In this work we used a complex test of intelligence, The Structure Intelligence Test I-S-T 2000 R. We were able to statistically control for the confounding variable the size of the place of residence in childhood. This had benefits when compared to previous studies. The differences in intelligence were measured in students of The Faculty of Science. The sample used included 46 toxoplasma-infected and 188 toxoplasma-free individuals. Using nonparametric tests we found lower numerical, fluid and general intelligence in toxoplasma-infected subjects compared to noninfected subjects. In addition, these tendencies were also observed in the results of parametric tests. Further to these components of intelligence there was also found to be a lower component of numerical knowledge in toxoplasma-infected males. By contrast, no differences between infected and noninfected individuals was found to occur in the female test subjects. No statistically significant...
Significance of developing emotional intelligence in primary schools
Rázková, Tereza ; Stará, Jana (advisor) ; Kargerová, Jana (referee)
This master thesis aims to describe the strategies, methods and forms of work which are effective to promote emotional intelligence in the primary classroom. The theoretical part defines terms related to the topic such as emotional intelligence and its key components. It also deals with the curricular education to emotional intelligence. The aim of the empirical part is based on qualitative method, in-depth interviews and it deals with the questions how teachers think about the concept of emotional intelligence, which methods do they use for developing it and with which problems are they faced with. The empirical part will also provide an insight into the foreign language material which focuses on development of emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence as part of intelligent behaviour
Kramperová, Eva ; Krykorková, Hana (advisor) ; Stolařová, Jaroslava (referee)
For my bachelor work I have chosen emotional intelligence and it's function in the course of human life as a subject of my investigation. I wrote about it's importance, function and possibilities of it's development. My work is divided into three parts. The first part contains general informations, definitions of basic terms, the relation of emotional intelligence and cognitive intelligence, and it's comparison with social intelligence. In this part I also mentioned debatable factors affecting EQ. The second part of my paper is the most important. Here I have done a survey of what is the function of emotional intelligence during childhood and nurture, and in education process (the influence of EQ on achievement, success and motivation in education, how schools work with EQ). The last part is about EQ in adulthood. Here I was thinking about the function and importance of emotional skills in the meaning of successful career, comfortable relationship and well-balanced attitude in postproductive period of life.
Conflict of Generations in the Mirror of the Protectorate Collaborators Press
Nezdařil, Petr ; Václavů, Lubor (advisor) ; Pokorný, Jiří (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to cover the variability of the protectorate press propaganda in relation to the generational and social belonging of the target readership group. This has been researched through analysing three collaboration newspapers - Arijský boj, Zteč and Přítomnost. Propagandist images have been reconstructed based on an analysis of three large topics, namely depicting the classes of the protectorate intellectuals, the youth and finally the Jewish minority. Except for covering the specific propagandist techniques, the aim is also an attempt to evaluate the perspectives of accepting these images by the protectorate society, and of explaining why they failed. Due to the primary sources that were used in the research, presented thesis affects mainly the period between 1942 and 1945.
Evolution of brain size and encephalization in birds
Straková, Barbora ; Němec, Pavel (advisor) ; Landová, Eva (referee)
Vertebrates show dramatic interspecific variation in the size of their brains. Large and complex brains evolved independently in birds and mammals. Despite many fundamental differences in their anatomical organization, recent evidence indicates that extensive regions of the avian cerebrum are homologous to pallial components of the mammalian brain. Birds have brains that are comparable in their relative size to the brains of mammals, and much larger than the brains of non avian reptiles. However, the selection pressures that have driven evolution of avian brains remain poorly understood. Comparative analyses identified various traits such as body size, metabolic rate, maternal investment, parental care, prolonged development, mating system and migratory behaviour as important correlates of relative brain size. By contrast, there seems to be a little evidence that sociality favour the evolution of large brains in birds. It has also been shown that particular behaviours such as song learning or food-hoarding correlate with size of those brain regions that participate in these behaviours. Future studies should not only look for novel determinants of brain size but also include known correlates and utilize path analysis modelling to describe the direct, indirect and spurious dependencies among these...
Mediated Learning as a one from Options of Personal Student's Development
Škopková, Pavla ; Krykorková, Hana (advisor) ; Kasíková, Hana (referee)
The bachelor thesis is focused on possible solutions, how could a teacher in cooperation with school student to reach satisfactory results achieved with deficits in cognitive function and also contribute to the student's personal development. The solution could be to offer help in the form of mediated learning, which is represented by the Instrumental Enrichment Programme. The effectiveness of the theory of mediated learning is the fact that such learning includes elements components that we guarantee that it is the process of development of creativity. These elements can belong: intervention, diagnosis or reflection of their own learning. The aim is to point out on these features in terms of psychological effect and demonstrate their functionality specific programs and outcomes. The concept of mediated learning due to its openness offers the work of a number of variants of instruments and tools, with regard to the specific circumstances of the task situation. The bachelor thesis is focused theoretical, but based on demonstrated qualitative research and analysis aimed at testing the effectiveness of using Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment Programme in practice. The bachelor thesis is designed to explaining the essence of the theory of mediated learning at the very beginning, including the...
"The Invention" of Intelligence and its Reflection in Czech Pedagogical and Social-pedagogical Discourse, Based on Selected Academic Journals from 1888 to 1944.
Čechová, Anežka ; Kolářová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Herza, Filip (referee)
The thesis deals with intelligence, as a socio-cultural concept that has its own history and development. It thus deconstructs the naturalized notions of a biological "essence" of intelligence, which has not been proved to this day. The scientific and philosophical modes of thinking, that participated in both "inventing" intelligence and its forming, are introduced. The analysis of the primary sources enables to compass the reflection of these dominant scientific approaches towards intelligence in the Czech expert discourses. The thesis also reflects on the important role intelligence has in the assessment of mental norm and disability, and it thus analyses the perception of disability during the defined historical period, including the discourse analysis of the different representations of disability. Key words Intelligence, disability, craniometry, eugenics, pedagogy, medicine, biopower.
