"The Gypsy Scourge!" Creation and Implementation of Anti-Gypsy Measures in interwar Czechoslovakia and After, 1918-1941

On December 22, 1926, an opening ceremony of the so-called Gypsy school was held in Uzhhorod, the capital of the Czechoslovak administration in Carpathian Ruthenia. Czech officials who gave talks pointed out pedagogical significance of the established institution which they described as unique and exceptional "experiment". The creation of a special school for children of those inhabitants who were labelled as "Gypsies" on the territory which was annexed by Czechoslovakia only later after the First World War and which in the contemporary imagination represented specific, "backward" region of the newly established state, served to consolidate the legitimacy of the First Republic as a democratic, progressive, modern, liberal state which belonged to the developed and civilized West. More than a half year later, on July 14, 1927, representatives in the Czechoslovak Parliament in Prague passed the Act No. 117/1927 on Wandering Gypsies. The development of this law was related to an immense interest of the contemporary media in "Gypsies" which was encouraged by the arrest of approximately twenty "Gypsies" from a village located in East Slovakia. Verbal Expressions of Reverence for St. John of Nepomuk in Vilém Bitnar's Saint-John-Questionnaire

Verbal Expressions of Reverence for St. John of Nepomuk in Vilém Bitnar's Saint-John- Questionnaire The goal of this thesis is a description of verbal expressions of reverence (legends, songs, prayers etc.) for St. John of Nepomuk in the Czech lands, which were collected by Výbor svatojanský in the questionnaire edited by Vilém Bitnar. This questionnaire was sent out to Czech and Moravian parishes at the occasion of the 200th anniversary of canonization of St. John of Nepomuk in 1929 and now it is deposited in the Literary Archive of the Museum of Czech Literature in Bitnar's estate. The mutual points in the questionnaire are seeked as well as regional specifics. These are situated into context of trends in religious life in the Czech lands in 1920s in general and also of relationship between contemporary Czech society and the Roman Catholic Church with reverence for St. John of Nepomuk. Bitnar's questionnaire is also situated into context of other Bitnar's scientific and publication activities. Civic facilities of Melnik town during years 1860-1939

This bachelor thesis deals with the development of institutions, buildings and facilities for civil purposes of the town of Mělník. It focuses on the founding and constructing of public serving institutions within the time span from the rise of civil society in the days of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire in about 1860 and their further development and changes during the First Republic. The time span leads up to the Nazi occupation of Bohemia and Moravia. The thesis aims at a description of the then founded institutions, namely, but not only, concerning education, culture and healthcare. Chapters are divided according to sectors of civil facilities. Key institutions are described in there in chronological order, as well as their architectural executions and their historical and architectonic characteristics in the context of the selected topic. The Protection of the Republic Act in the Context of the Political Discussion of the First Czechoslovak Republic

This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of the Czechoslovak Protection of the Republic Act, it refers to historical circumstances that led to it's enactment and provides comprehensive picture of the political debate on the Protection of the Republic Act among the most significant political parties of the First Czechoslovak republic and their party press organs. The aim of the thesis is to answer questions related to the way the most significant political parties approached the Protection of the Republic Act, the way they framed the Act as an object of framing and the way they expressed their stances on the Act to the public. In pursuit of fulfilling these particular aims, this work will analyze the historical materials including the newspaper editions of the political parties press organs and speeches of the political party members in the Chamber of Deputies of the National Assembly of Czechoslovak republic. During the analysis, this work will as well use framing analysis as an instrumental prerequisite for reconstructing individual frames applied on the Protection of the Republic Act by the political parties of the Czechoslovak republic.

Radio drama and its origin in Czechoslovak broadcasting

This thesis focus on the part of the radio history, which was not comprehensively described in professional literature yet. It analyzes beginning of the radio drama in Czechoslovakia. Theme compilate a lot of different sources and in many ways do pioneering job. This thesis is separated into a few parts. At first, thesis focuses on the brief history of radio in twenties and thirties of the last century, which is necessary to understand the evolution of radio drama. Also it describes what radio drama is and how it's created. The main part is dedicated to the history of radio drama in First Czechoslovak Republic with the mention of principal characters. In the thesis there is also information about the essential radio dramas. Ceramic Sculpture in Prague Interwar Architecture

Ceramic Sculpture in Prague Interwar Architecture This thesis project from the field of art history is dedicated to the use of ceramic sculpture in the architecture of the first Czechoslovak Republic. It puts an emphasis on so called "national style", which is defined theoretically in the first place and then explained in the context of the artistic development in Czechoslovakia and, more generally, the international art deco current. Separate chapters describe the role of Czech art schools and the significant personality and work of Helena Johnová. The scope of the research is limited to the monuments located in Prague, but it also takes into account important commissions situated outside the city, as well. A catalogue of ceramic sculpture associated with the Prague architecture of the concerned period forms part of the study. Periods of Time (1930-1938, 2000-2008) and Their Comparison

The subject of this master thesis is the comparison of the way of writing about celebrities in two time periods, namely 1930-1938 and 2000-2008. Thesis are based on two first-republic social magazines, Eva and List paní a dívek, and two magazines from the turn of the century - Cosmopolitan and Rytmus života. The first part of the thesis introduces primarily a theme of the social magazines and celebrities, it also touches the tabloid and the mass media. It also deals with the characteristics of selected social magazines. At the same time, the theoretical part explains the basic knowledge from the history of the two examined periods, which allows a better understanding of context of the periods. The second part of the master thesis is focused on own empirical research, which consists of exploratory and descriptive phase of research. It is therefore the most important part of the thesis, which brings new knowledges. The exploratory phase includes a research sample and presents article entries. The descriptive phase includes an analysis of relationships between celebrities and themes, emotions and sentiment in relevant articles. Part of this section contains research questions and answers.
