The motif of death in art in the years 1890-1918

The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to deal with the motive of death in the visual arts at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The work introduces and analyzes various motives related to death and dying and their changes over the course of twenty years. It follows the content shift of these motives, such as the frequency of their occurrence, their connection with the development of society etc. Last but not least, the work introduces the topic from a sociological point of view, and therefore touches on statistical data on mortality and common causes of death in the years 1890 to 1910, etc.

The altar in the Czech Art Nouveau

This thesis is dedicated to the manifestations of Art Nouveau in the altar production of the Czech woodcarver Jan Kastner and the integration of an altar in the Art Nouveau style into the context of a contemporary church interior. The first chapter deals with J. Kastner's personality and his work and plans including his exhibits presented in the world exhibitions, mainly as related to his altar production. Kastner's altars are in the Art Nouveau or pseudo- Gothic style, but some combine in a specific way elements of the Art Nouveau with the late pseudo-Gothic style. The second chapter presents three examples of churches with three main altars (created in different variants of the Art Nouveau) and a corresponding interior in the Art Nouveau style. The three churches are: the Elevation of the Holy Cross Church in Jablonec nad Nisou by Josef Zasche, the church of Saint Cyril and Metoděj in Kroměříž by Hubert Gessner and the Monument of Peace in Prace near Brno by Josef Fanta. The last chapter is an attempt to set up criteria for defining a sacral work of art as one in the Art Nouveau style. The supplement summarizes the historical development of the Christian altar.

Arnošt Hofbauer (1869 - 1944)

The theme of this thesis is based on my interest in art around 1900and follows my Bachelor thesis. In chronological sequenced chapters will show Arnošt Hofbauer's life story and describe his artistic development, among others it will also analyze foundation of S. V. U. Mánes, periodical Volné směry etc. In the end of the thesis I attached the catalogs of his work from public and private collections for a complete view of his work. The aim of this thesis is to present Hofbauer's creative work in the most integrated form and in cultural-historical context. I attempt to evaluate his position in the Czech art history.

The Art Nouveau Ecclesiastical Architecture in Czech Republic (Bohemia)

The Art Nouveau ecclesiastical architecture in Czech Republic (Bohemia) The diploma thesis focusses on Art Nouveau religious architecture in Bohemia. It deals with the cultural and art movements between 1890-1920 which íncludes the late Historicism, Art Nouveau, and Modernism. The first part of the diploma thesis presents the influences which affected the development of Art Nouveau religious architecture in Bohemia and its architects. It also introduces architectural elements that are typical for Art Nouveau religious architecture. The second part of the diploma thesis presents religious buildings in the particular regions of Bohemia and describes them subsequently in the catalogue that is arranged chronologically. Liturgical applied art designs in the work of Josef Fanta

Abstract The theme of this diploma work, that came out partly from the preceding bachelor work, which was dedicated to the art nuovo decor in Prague ecclesiastical milieu, is Josef Fanta's (1856-1954) designs for ecclesiastical purpose in the field of applied art, which have never been published so far. Josef Fanta is mainly known only as an architect, author of the Prague Central Station building and has never been studied in more details. The main aim of this diploma paper is trying to evaluate the almost 100 years lasting life and work. The chosen segment of his wide creative activities, ornamenta ecclesiae - liturgical textile and equipment, is suprisingly plentiful group including number of prestigious orders. Monument of František Palacký in Prague

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to give an integrated statement development of monument of Frantisek Palacky in Prague, which is a piece of one of the leading representatives of Art Nouveau sculpture Stanislav Sucharda and architect Alois Dryák. Attention will be given a public competition that preceded the whole project, the importance of choosing a place for a monument, process Sucharda's creation, the role of the architect and finally the period responses to the entire work.

The aim of this work is to present an annotated translation of popular expository text from German into Czech language. Text to be translated is from a book DuMont Geschichte der Kunst in Deutschland written by prof. Dr. Robert Suckale; content of the book is the history of art in Germany. The selected part of the text deals with Art Nouveau, Art Nouveau, more specifically, Munich and Vienna. The work consists of two main components: a translation and commentary on the translation. The analysis includes a template of model by prof. Dr. Christiane Nord, problems that I encountered in the translation, and the typology of translation shifts.
